Now heres a challenge.

Shane McGrath or Michael Cooke???

Ok no more nightmare jokes (though i always thought Mcgrath could have been a player with a bit more application)....

Jason or Peter.

How, i mean how can they be split?

The greatest team player ever (Bung) or the undisputed master of the goal square (Huddo).

I guess i saw 98% of Jasons games, against seeing Huddo in 77 when he was fat, slow and painfully out of shape for league footy (still kicked 110) when we were flying him in for games.

Jason worked so hard, he must have given away at least 300 (going that he normally dished off at least one a match, or more on occasions). Hudson was given the front half of the field to be left alone and do his stuff.

Gee its hard to call, heart says Jason, head says Huddo, logic after looking at their respective careers, taking into account that Hudson was about to enter his greatest period when he did his knee.....

Talent wise, Hudson clearly. For service, workrate and an capacity to rise when he was really required in close games (how many times did he save our bacon with two goals in the last five minutes). ]

Dunstall. But gee what a back up.

*Special mention to Mick Moncreiff, excellent full forward and great clubman to boot* Pecky too!

Bung for me.

This is the only position I'll be biased about, but Jason is the best player I've ever seen, and that's my basic reasoning. I never saw Huddo, but I saw Dunstall every week, and every week he did something that just made me shake my head. Sublime footballer.

Huddo for me, like you Grendel only really saw Huddo that one year in the flesh (1977), remember as a very young tacker when i heard the news about Huddos knee on radio my Dad was listening too. Who can forget the footage of him kicking into the man on the mark going for his 151st goal in the '71 GF.

Mind you Dunstall isnt far behind, Moncrieff had his moments and even Lethal for a couple of seasons did a great job, led the League goalkicking one year from memory, not bad for a rover playing as your main target forward. Cheers

I probably didn't see enough of Huddo in his prime but I still think I would have to go for Dunstall. So good even when the rest of the team was down he managed to lift. His workrate to keep the ball in his area was exceptional as well.

Hudson was probably better in terms of sheer talent but overall I still think Bung. Like you say Grendel, one hell of a backup.

There's been some tough decisions in this team but this must be the toughest.
I've gone for Huddo on the basis that he was the most amazing footballer I've ever seen.
I saw nearly all of his games (yes I'm THAT old)and I cant tell you the number of times I walked away from a game just shaking my head, wondering how he'd done it...an absolute magician !
So close behind him is the ultimate team player, hardest worker and a guy who 'developed' more than anyone I've seen.Probably the toughest FF I've ever seen too.
We've really been blessed in this area haven't we..

I'm with Danny Chook. Dunstall gets the nod, not because he is the better full-forward, but because he is the best player I have ever seen.

Huddo for me ,
As I have said before only saw him play once (1977) state game in Perth on one leg & he kicked 10 with defenders falling all over him. We must also remember he played through the years of the Kennedy era where Hawthorn's brawn approach was greater than skills.
Bung played with Pritchard, Bucky, Allan, Jarman hitting him a lot. Having said that every word said in praise of Dunstall is deserved he was a marvel
Both were great scroungers for a goal too.

Well for me its Nathan Thompson

hehehehehheheheh

Its got to be Jason for the fact he could of had a whole lot more goals added to his count if he wasn't so unselfish!!!

which reminds me of a day at Waverley, when Huddo (Paul not Peter) had the ball and Jase was all by himself and Huddo kicked the ball over his head and out on the full!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Real team player he was!

I know his father was nothing like him, even though I never saw any of his games!

Why did the guy have to change his number
from 16 to 23. Now my username looks stupid

Peter Hudson
only because ive been brought up to believe that, thanks dad! it would be easier to answer if i had seen huddo play but unfortunately i didnt! but still, he gets my vote!

I'm an Eagle Fan primarily but I follow the Hawks second, mainly because I just loved watching Bung. I wasn't born when Huddo played so I can't really comment except both great in different ways.

I suppose if you ask who's the better Full Forward, which you are, you have to say Huddo. But if you ask who was the better footballer, I'd say Dunstall.
Hudson did have the best average of any full-forward ever, including Coleman, but he did only play 130 games, whereas Jason played over 260. To play as well as he did for such a long period speaks volumes to me.
Hidson should definitely have got the nod ahead of Coleman though for The Team Of The Century. His average was superior, & Coleman only played in 98 games. Can you believe Dunstall & Lockett weren't even nomintaed in that team? What an absolute joke! Also, Langford wasn't nominated at full-back, another joke!
Anyway, to sum up - I'll pick Dunstall.
