This may be a bit of chest beating but I think there is a good case to be made for Buckley being called the greatest player so far this decade. Everyone would agree that the ninties belonged to Carey. I will need the help of other supporters to fill out some of the details. But if you look at premierships as a team achievement, so that the stars of brisbane are on an even playing field with all other players. and focus on the individual honours then I think that the title is Buckleys for the moment. Chris Judd may win another four Brownlows this decade. But for the moment in my opinion it belongs to Buckley. If you guys could help me fill this out so that i can post it on the main board with all the relevant stats.

Club B/F: 2 (2000)(2003)
Brownlow medals: 1 (2003)
NormSmith medals: 1(2002)
Goals:
Games:
Possesions:
Brownlow votes:
Clearances:
F50 entries:
Tackles:

According to prowess (non-official, but on video replay are 99.9% correct) here are his stats for the decade.

Clearances: 503
Inside 50's: 734

Also, since 2000 he has polled 77 votes

I'd prefer to go with a player like Akermanis, James Hird, Simon Black, Matthew Lloyd, all of whom led their teams to PREMIERSHIPS in this decade. Possessions and medals mean nothing.

Give me Kobe over Lebron anyday.

Possesions mean little you're right.
Buckley has been one of the most damaging players of the decade while racking them up.

Medals mean nothing, you're right.
That's why PREMIERSHIP medals shouldn't matter when talking about the merits of a PLAYER.

Back to the Mt. Bulla Dees board junior!

Once again, we are rating an individual, not a team. Once again, Aaron Keating is better than Buckley.

Once again it is impossible to have a discussion on bigfooty without trolls cutting in. If you don't like the collingwood board don't come here

hhhhmmmmmmmmmm, absolutely no doubt he would be top 5. others who challenge him are Hird, Tredrae, Riccuito, Judd (he is that good), Voss, Akermanis, Crawford also (he has been damn good). I've prob forgotten some, but i'd give Voss the nod, just ahead of Hird.

Ben Cousins, he'd challenge too

Carey is by far the best player of the nineties, by a mile. He was the strongest, smartest player that won an enormous amount of games off his own boot. Ablett is second. although he played awesome in the eighties, But early ninesties was good to watch for ablett.

Buckley would be about 4th best. An this is coming from a die hard Collingwood supporter.

The best that I have seen are as follows: (im 21 years old) so born in 1984:

1. W.Carey
2. G.Ablett
3. J.Hird
4. N.Buckley
5. M.Voss
6. A.McLeod
7. G.Williams
8. T.Lockett
9. C.Judd
10. J.Brown (could have gone to Kernahan, but Brown is gonna be twice as good as him )

Best I've seen - I'm 19 turning 20 in a month or so.

1. W.Carey
2. G.Ablett
3. N.Buckley
4. J.Hird
5. R.Harvey
6. M.Voss
7. T.Lockett
8. G.Williams
9. M.Riccutio
10. M.Lloyd

This is based on their influence and how many solid seasons they've put together. Hird best is better than Buckley but Buckley has had a few better seasons. Voss is slightly overrated IMO. This might sound harsh but I still put him at #6. Harvey is just as influential than him and has put together way more good season.
Judd - 2002, good debut year. 2003 great follow up. 2004 was brilliant. 2005 was good. And 2006 is looking his best. 2 good years, and one and a half brilliant seasons, as good as he is, isn't enough.
Brown is up there with Carey for how he can dominate but hasn't put together a conistantly brilliant season yet.

Lloyd is underrated. It was between him and West.

For the 90's I'd say...

1. Wayne Carey
2. Gary Ablett
3. Robert Harvey
4. Tony Locket
5. James Hird
6. Nathan Buckley
7. Michael Voss
8. Shane Crawford
9. Greg Williams
10. Scott West

Maybe not accurate, can't really remember much pre 1994 (born in '88) but thats my opinion. As for so far this decade I'll say...

1. Chris Judd - The dude is unbelievable.
2. Nathan Buckley
3. Ben Cousins
4. Jason Akermanis
5. Jonathon Brown
6. Scott West
7. James Hird
8. Mark Riccuito
9. Simon Black
10. Shane Crawford

Probably Biased... but that's what i think. Anyone I've forgotten?

I think Hirdy would have been higher had he not been so consistantly injured, and if Crawf never broke his arm or played in a better side i think he would have been higher too. Wanganeen would have had a look in but injuries and his late retirement kept him out. Also i think Nigel Lappin would have featured in both lists had he not been injured all the time. Probably could have squeezed Michael Voss in there too but once i was finished i couldn't be bothered fiddling around with it.

Thoughts?
