I don't know about ALL Fitzroy supporters wanting to go with the North option but ,on balance ,it would have been a better option for Melbourne based supporters. The AFL had let Fitzroy hang out to dry and they were gone. I thought North were pro-active in that saga but did hold ALL the cards and that, plus the unbelievable and petty jealousy of the other Melbourne based clubs, brought us undone. I don't know why Colbert's an issue here as he was offered a "take it or leave it " contract with an injury clause he couldn't possibly agree to, so he was always going to leave, it was just a matter of which team negotiated best. North also had a nibble at Wayne Campbell in'98 and Lambert and Buckley in other years along with every other team! So what?

$50000.00 for the 2 of them, They are close to 1100 goals between them, that's just over $45.00 a goal, BOY IS THAT CHEAP!!!

A job well done Greg Miller.

I was a member at Fitzroy. The proposed merger with North was a total takeover.Their colours, their name, their song.
It was horrible the whole thing. But at least now, we still have our Lions, I sing our song, my son wears a Lions jumper in Fitzroy historical colours. The merge with the Brisbane Club was a merge, they were prepared to listen to what we supporters want, they gave up heaps for us. I go to training when they play in Melbourne, we have after match functions, my kids love seeing the players. They are Lions players. Not North players, I could never barrack for a roo, or sing their song. I still have my song, my Lions. Its not the same, but its a hell of a lot better than being extinct or being roos.

Susan, I understand what you're saying and I have several friends who express the same sentiments, BUT the Bears had little history and giving up the colours, song etc was nothing to them. I also know Fitzroy supporters who didn't want to follow an interstate team and now follow other sides, perhaps with not quite the same passion, but have made the transition none the less. North got over 1500 of you as members without merging so it's reasonable to suggest that had we merged many more would have come our way. There's no question about which side was in the dominant position, Fitzroy really had no bargaining power at the end, but I think the acrimony and bitterness would have dissipated and a strong Melbourne based club would have emerged, exactly what other strong Melbourne based clubs didn't want. I'm pleased you're happy but there are many others who's team is not distant geographically but distant in memory.

Groucho, really $45.00 a goal, how cheap is that?

Hate to rub it in, but Greg Miller you are a faantastic administrator, who will always be 2 up on the swans. THANK YOU.

I don't know Lenny, Rubbing yourself seems to be what you are good at. Good to see that after all these years you've begun to understand Long division, sorry to see your imagination only runs that far.

The point of this topic was that Norff was only capable of benefiting from the hard work, or misfortune of other clubs as I said you are the Paul Hudson's of the football community. Yes soon the sex offender's shoulders and groins will go and where will you be then.

You are not a football club you are an infestation.

This so called "Sydney experiment" began because the administration at Norff had no imagination to find a sponsor of their own, so what to do? Pinch the ones that the Western Bulldogs had spent months working on. Gee, what a surprise the soft option again pinching someone else's hard work.

This Lenny is the point though I dare say that you would like Greg Miller have the moral fibre to take a critical look at the situation, and make a rational judgement.

That would take imagination.

Listen Don, you dipstick, wake up and smell the coffee.

Back in the mid 80's North was in the worse shape of any Victorian club, even Fitzroy.

Don't now come on this board crying how North had to fight tooth and nail to survive, and survive we have, in the proccess adding a swap of trophies to the cabinet.

I am sorry if you think getting it right is taking the soft option, we at North call it being smart.

Dont blame us because the Bullies couldn't get it done, or the Swannies didn't know Wayne Carey when he was 16.

Why blame us???????

TALL POPPY SYNDROME at work again...

Don, explain to me again how you can pinch something that belongs to nobody? The Bulldogs couldn't close the deal North could-end of story. A potential sponsor is anybodys until they commit! Do you really think a "soft option" team could even be a contender let alone win two flags in 4 years? If you do then I regretfully agree with Lenny-You are a dipstick.

Thats right Lenny and cc. And now as Don sinks slowly into his morass of self despair , delusion and bitterness we can sleep tight at night full knowing that his lack of objectivity is only exceeded by his lack of credibility. Oh and We're THE REIGNING PREMIER!!!

Don I can see u are very angry but you have to let go.
I fail to see any evidence of North taking the soft options.
If soft is being sucessful then maybe.
You need to be a man and admit your wrong or is Don short for Donna cos you are being very girlish.
Your husband must be very disappointed with you.
Now get ready for your game of night netball and leave the footy talk to people who know what its about and can forget grand final losses. ie 96.
Cheers big ears and dont wear your skirt too short.

I can accept critism of our players, our club and our administrators but to start a topic with "Greg Miller I hope you get an incurable skin disease that leaves you in agony" is just bloody pathetic!!!

Surely it's possible to make your point without resorting to such absolutely ghastly declarations?

I'm tempted to state, I hope you're inflicted with whatever you've wished on Greg Miller but, I 'reckon from your statements here, you're in enough trouble already! Get help man!

I wonder where Greg Miller came from... Oh yeah he was another person the Swans gave up. He is that great a administrator plenty of other clubs wish they had him.

Just to clarify, I think everyone respects what the Roos have achieved over the past decade but their form so far this year proves that last year they were clearly just the fortunate recipients of suspensions to the Lions and bad kicking/ poor attitudes from the Dons...

Still, a flag is a flag is a flag...

Duchman,

I saw no such disclaimer on the 1999 Premiership Cup when I visited the club recently!

The team that won the 1999 Grand Final are the reigning premiers in the year 2000 - that's how it works!

IF another team had MADE IT to the GF
and BEATEN the 'Roos,
THAT team would be the reigning premier.
But Carlton made it to the Grand Final, Carlton were beaten by the 'Roos,
the 'Roos ARE the reigning premiers.

If's, but's or maybe's don't count! Could've and should've and would've don't count!

Can't make it any plainer for you!

Con,

I agree with you, i am sick and tired of bomber supporters claiming that the roos aren't the real champions of 1999.

Yes the bombers had a great season, yes they finished minor premiers, yes they were premiership favourites.

But we will never know what would have happened last year because YOU DIDN'T make the 1999 GF to prove whether or not you were the better team. It's NOT the roos fault that you did deliever on your end of the bargain.

The only way to prove it is to beat us in the GF this year.

Having said that you've had a great start to the 2000 season.

Yeah fair do's I suppose. Its not sour grapes as I really do respect the Roos attitude, coach and toughness for most the decade.

I think its just that our form this year makes losing to such an unworthy rabble last year doubly galling. Quite right - its not North's fault we stuffed up.

Jeez, you'd think I could be happy with a 10 goal humpin of the dogs...

Sorry for whining about it. Its probably almost as boring as all the desperate Blue supporters going on and on about their one decent effort in around 5 years and who'll have to hang onto that 1 pointer tape as some consolation for next few years...

Hang on a minute fellas,

Putting the premiership aside, I think all you Essendon supporters, should sit back and reflect the good year that the Roos had last year.

** We did finish 2nd after the home & away season.

** We did win a club record for the most wins in a season.

** We also won a club record 'consecutive wins' for the season.

I guess the point I'm trying to make here, is that we weren't some bunnies just making up the numbers in September, and that we throughly deserved our premiership..

Enough said, it's history..

The home and away season is a means to the end. North Melbourne are the premiers of 99, there was no other winner. As Adelaide was the winner in 98, regardless of North Melbourne finsihing on top of the ladder. I will also use the Spring Carnival as analogy, the winner of the Caufeild Cup does not always do well in the Melbourne Cup, nor does the favorite of the Melbourne Cup always win the race. The whats ifs and buts are always easier to declare in hindsight.

Wayne got 3 more goals on the weekend, we could call it almost 45 bucks a goal, no you can have those three on us.

Cheers.

Bombers have peaked too early again.
