Agreed. Addison hasn't put a foot wrong all year, yet people seem to gloss over his efforts and call for him to be moved out of the side quickly. Certainly won't be dropped based on his game today, won a few important contests, stopped some goals at important moments, and always throws his body on the line. Going to be a great player.

No way will Griffen be dropped, or Akermanis. Aker's last Qtr was the best he's played in Dogs colours, and Griffen will be back to his best in a few weeks. Geez, some people... :)

So you are saying that 6 possessions for the game is acceptable. There are others who are bagged on this board who do far more than he has been able to contribute.

Addison struggled? I thought he played very well, managed to get his hands on it a few times in a game when we were being killed at the stoppages. Eade certainly thought so, putting him in eth middle when the game was to be won.

I thought during our second quarter spurt Addison did really well in the centre bounce clearances, his only problem is that he is yet to be able to do it all game much the same as Higgin's. But thats something only match conditioning and more time at top level can improve.

Wight can play CHB & ruck. Williams, at this stage, can do neither at AFL level. Is clearly going to need another pre-season before he becomes a regular fixture in the side. Wight is one of the more important players in the team due to the flexibility he offers.
We say we need talls, yet are going to be so quick to cut those that are making a go fo their opportunities? Strange.

Wight also needs time but so does Williams and now the spot has become a bit more contested with Skipper, McDougall, Everitt and Pask playing well in the reserves. This is Wight's 5th year in the squad he is actually older than Will Minson who also was picked up in the 2002 draft. I think allthough Wight's played some adequate games this season he has also played some shockers most notably against Hawthorn and I thought he was very ordinary yesterday against the Dee's.
I think we have given him a good run so far in the seniors but he has'nt fully grasped his opportunity I think he is due to be omitted.

Sorry can't agree. Wight is just starting to get settled in to the team. He won't be dropped until Grant comes back, and even then, i'd say he's a fair chance to retain his spot.

Well that's a sad inditement on the selectors and the team that poor performances will be tolerated.
I think even Wight knows that in his last 3 outings he has had a double bogey a par and a bogey. He also knows that Skip is breathing down his neck and has a body size that better matches against the likes of Rocca.

Griff's worst is better than some of our player's best.

That is true but i would rather have Griffin at his best then his worst.

If it is form related drop him.
If it is injure related fix it up.

simple as that but i like watching Griff at his best.:thumbsu:

How about we just let him play? Griff has a poor game by his standards with OP so let’s drop him.
Street wins a few taps against an out of form ruck, we are amazed a guy a foot taller than everyone else takes a contested mark and is able to get a couple of little pressure kicks onto someone’s chest. Sounds like he is Brownlow material now.

Things need to be put in perspective.

Some were gunning for guido to be dropped now he's getting in the bests the last 2 weeks, Griff will come good.

agree 100% as they where for murph and darce. i would not drop any 1 wight addison griffen or aker, addison and wight have been ok, akers last Q was good and showed why we got him he is a champion
and as for griff, like gia will get there:thumbsu:

Some people are hard to please....Griff is undeniably in the best 22 and even when below his best he is still better than anyone we have down at Werribee. If he is one of our worst then we are in for a ripper of a season

Less confident of Aker. There are quite a few who could take his place and provide what he is giving. Imagine that the club wouldn't want the glamour 'crowd magnet' recruit out of the team so while we're winning I think they will show him more patience than others might receive

You're kidding aren't you?

White represented an enormous challenge for Street and he took it up to him all day. At last our little blokes had first use of the ball sometimes.

Nobody said he was Brownlow material but give some credit to a bloke who puts in a creditable effort. Noticably better than Minson's recent efforts

You are correct. Peter Street's effort on Sunday was better than Will Minson's recent efforts, but let's put it into perspective, that wouldn't be too difficult.

The stats clearly show that Wight was more effective than Street.

A bloke as tall as Street should be able to get a decent amount of hit outs, tho this in itself is a useless stat, as it's those that are to advantage that should be looked at.

We need & should be demanding so much more from Street around the ground than what we got on Sunday.

Small step taken nevertheless.

I'm talking White and Melbourne of 2007 not White and Melbourne of past years. As I mentioned Darcy was a better ruck for us on the day. If rucking was just tapping the ball out then fine he had a sensational game, unfortunately it isn't.
Clearances haven't been Melbourne strong point this season either.

Which is what I said.
I also I said thing need to be put into prespective.
We sing his praises then want a player dropped who had a tougher opponent on the day and who is a much better player.

I hope Griff is bringing his game brain to matches, there was a couple times during the Demons game where the ball got away from him, but well within reach and his eyes were looking everywhere the ball was'nt. Also a couple of times his decision making when in possesion was poor.
It crossed my mind that he was'nt mentally totally switched on and he's given the same impression over the past few weeks.
I hope he's not out their thinking about his girlfriend. Plenty of time for that after the game.

Street is one of those blokes that will never receive credit from some. He takes a mark or gets a tap and its "So he should being a foot taller than everybody else"

White represented one of the most important challenges to the side yesterday because of his athleticism both at ball-ups and around the ground. Yes, White's stats were better but not for hit-outs which is the primary stat for a ruckman and no that's not the be all end all but if we get the hit-out the opposition doesn't.

More to the point, White at no stage threatened to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Street did well to shadow him as he did.

The fact remains that his effort was superior to Minsons of late and justified the Selector's faith in him.

I don't think thats true, its more the opposite.
When he takes a mark or hits a target with a kick, people are amazed a guy that looks so ackward did it. He gets too much credit. To most other players its second nature.

I don't think taps is the most important primary stat for ruckman and somehow I don't think Eade thinks that way either or Street would have been in from round 1 and playing every minute of a game.
There have been plenty of great ruckman that are just 50/50 at ruck situation but are great around the ground.

The fact remains that his effort was superior to Minsons of late and justified the Selector's faith in him.
Which I agree.

This belongs in the Street thread not the Grif/Aker.

Digging up last weeks thread.

Griff! Werribee will really look forward to seeing him down there next week. We can't wait forever for his skills and confidence to come back this year. 8 weeks and I've seen nothing that puts him in the best 22. I didnt see 1 effective possesion today. 1 deliberate out, a few shocking turnovers and a lot of panic and confusion. There's 10 guys begging for a spot that would at least make a positive contribution to the game. Just 1 week at the Bees might be enough to wake him up and bring back some confidence.

And Aker, Brilliant game, Glad to have him the kennel!

I personally thought Griff played a decent game. He won't be touching Werribee anytime soon.

Agreed. Arguably the best he's played all year - still not near his best, but was solid with his run today, and his work rate seemed much better.

Maybe I expect too much from him.. Last year he was busting through packs, breaking tackles and just brilliant week in week out. I'm yet to see that stellar form at all this year and it's really disappointing.

Easily the best that both of those blokes have played this year. Very harsh on Griffo.
