Griffin going to WA would only mean playing in the WAFL.
Freo usually only play 1 ruckman - Sandi.
WCE already have Cox and Naitanui, so until Cox retires, there's no room for Griff.

I was about to say "Why would West Coast knock him back as a back-up ruckman?? He can get across to them for nothing in the pre-season draft, with WC having first pick in the draft"

Not true of course, as I had forgotten about GC17 who have first pick.

in comparison to Bock's departure threads, Griffin's rumour will hardly reach a few pages, because he can walk into PSD or be traded, but fact is we'll get next to nothing for him, and we won't care.

because he's not a very good backup ruckman. the modern day backup ruck should be mobile enough to play elsewhere around the ground.

The only thing he would be doing on our list is permanent emergency ruckman- by this i mean playing WAFL week in, week out in case Sandilands gets injured. And this would only be until Zac Clarke is better developed for the role.

As can be seen by most we are getting monstered in the ruck with Sandi injured.
So if he can accept this role and you don't want to much in return?

I'd say a third round pick would do it. Easily

i'm sure if he wanted out, we'd accept a very very late draft pick (or an upgrade of a late pick - 4th or 5th) just to ensure he can go where he wants (WA).

I've heard he's missing his family a lot and would go back west if he could. He doesn't want to go east so its either the Crows or one of the two WA teams.

Wont you look silly when next year he's running around for Fremantle, dominating the AFL in hitouts, contested marking all over the ground, roving his own taps and overtaking Sandilands for the no. 1 ruck position?

Which alternate reality is this happening??

Know both of those things mate; but there has been a fair bit of chat that the Weagles will try and trade him now, and see what value they can get.
gee, that's harsh. at his prime, he committed to the club and wanted to be an eagle for life, and now the club turns on him.
straight swap for Griffin would be fine by me :D

I wish Griff all the best.
So what do we do now trade for a ready made ruck man or draft a kid?
We're stuffed in the ruck department if Moran's body doesn't hold up if we keep him and if Smack wants to go home.
Hopefully James Craig can put on some muscle in the off season just in case he's needed.

Didn't he have a lot of time off this/last year because his dad was really sick? Sounds like he's very family orientated and wouldn't be a huge surprise if the family drew him more than footy.

WCE will be shopping Cox around to see if they can get a solid return.

Straight swap. Griff for Cox??

Cox will be more than handy as we are about to open our Premiership window.

Unlike West Coast we wont need him to be a tall midfielder, just a Ruck, which he is good at. Could play for another 2 or three years, which will then see Maric mature properly in the role.

Not to mention Sellar.

I think the players that GC17 can take in the pre-season draft do not include those that have been on previous AFL lists unless they qualified for the main draft.

I saw this discussed on the main board somewhere once.

If we were able to orchestrate a straight swap, Griffin for Cox, even at 29 years old, it would be a monster trade on our behalf. Don't see West Coast trading away one of their better players and best ruckman for someone who has yet to prove he has what it takes to play first ruck at AFL level.
