Guess we wont really know until tomorrow or Tuesday but second hand information at this point is a Medial Ligament 'problem' courtesy of SEN.

Worst case scenario we've got a damn fine rookie list to choose from anyway - including a ready made replacement in Silvagni.

Harvey in the presser said that Grover has a "medial" and they will know tomorrow when they fly back and get it checked.

Yep, which does not look good. What are the implications re upgrading a rookie if he goes onto the LTI if he is on the veteran list? Does it make a difference?

I have to say his experience was valuable in the forward line early...

I'm no expert, but having had a bit of a look around I can't find anything clear cut in the rules about what happens if Groves does go on to the LTI.

One view says that as he is already on the Veteran list, and we have already elevated 1 rookie as a result, we don't get another rookie elevation even if he is on the LTI.

Another view is that if he is LTI, the AFL has a discretion to approve an extra rookie allowance (in the same way as it is technically up to the AFL to approve an extra rookie spot when a senior player retires after lists have closed - so they could have refused us a spot to replace Solly).

The closest recent example I could think of where a veteran listed player has had a LTI was Richo last year for the Tiges, and I don't think they got an extra rookie spot for the period he was out.

Happy to be corrected, and you'd hope that Vlad and company would see sense and let us fill the spot while Groves is injured. Hopefully though it is just minor and he's back in April (looked like an ACL to me, but what would I know).

I cant remember where, but I remember reading somewhere that he had done a posterior ligament. George -- That could explain the grabbing of the back of the knee

I've just watched the game. I can't believe the injury would have been that bad if they allowed him to walk to the changerooms after assessing him.

Like Esti said, even if he goes down for the season that means we can upgrade another rookie.:D

Cale Morton did PCL - out for 10 - 12 weeks.

Grover did Medial ligament. Hopefully just grade one or two. Dont be alarmed if he is put into a full leg brace. I did grade 3 medial a year ago and wore the brace for 3 weeks. Grade 2 will be 6 - 8 weeks, grade 3 will be upwards of 12 (same injury as Brad ottens in April last year). From the way Grover jogged off and had his knee tested looked like a grade 2. So my guess would be available for around round 3/4.

He will have scans and fingers crossed that the ACL is all good. I wonder whether he would have the LARS artificial ligament surgery if he gets some bad news tomorrow?

That's great news - though with a round 5 to 8 return I assume he wouldn't go on the LTI?

Which would mean we have Dodd, Palmer and Grover all likely to return after the first 6 or 8 games, but as none are on the LTI, no option for extra rookie cover in the meantime...

If this is the case, I guess the bright spot is Grover's injury does give blokes like Roberton and Bucovaz (if fit) an opportunity if we choose not to elevate Silv as one of the two rookies. Similar to how Palmer's start in round 6 or 8 gives Hinks a bit of an extra chance to get a few early games and cement a spot.

Makes it pretty bloody obvious to me that we should promote barlow and silvagni now. With DB getting his chance if Truffles get LTI'd.

You would think as a result of this that we now need to elevate Silvagni as defensive cover. Makes the fight for the other rookie spot even more interesting...
