probly the best concert ive ever been to!! absolutley amazing!
however, the new guys replacing slash and duff are no where nere as good. they play fast quick talented harmonics.. but thats not the true guns n roses sound. they do play their own great stuff though like duets. slash better by a mile. but the concert was still unbelievable!! who else went and thought the same??

I posted this in another thread.

I just got back from Melbourne gig. In a word disappointing. Whilst it was a good gig and enjoyable in parts what struck me more than anything was that I was seeing a bunch of individually gifted musicians, no question Bumblefoot Thal in his own right is one hell of a guitarist and the rest were also very very good musicians.

What I didnt see was a band, a passionate expression of good music. I saw a bunch of musicians go through the motions and produce some amazing music but it just didnt have that spark that little bit extra that turns a good gig into an awesome gig.

I have seen some of the greats in my time and to me watching Joe Walsh "feel" his music on stage or Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood weave that tapestry of sound is something I will hold onto a hell of alot longer than what I experienced tonight. Hell watching "Shortie" from Collards Green and Gravy at the Stork hotel on a Friday bang his drums holds more passion for me.

I wanted so much more, maybe im the idiot for thinking I would get it.

Sorry dude you need to go to more gigs.

I had an awesome time last night. I didn't come expecting to see the GnR of old,as I knew that I would be disapointted if I did. I came to see Axl and a bunch of talent musicians perform some of my most loved songs and they didn't let me down.

Axl was fantastic on stage and when performing their classic hits, the atmosphere was awesome (especially being only a few rows from the front). Even some of the new songs were enjoyable to listen to, despite not receiving much recognition from many of the fans.

Also thought Sebastian Bach was a sensational warm-up act. Was very energetic on stage and was simply quite an entertainer. Really enjoyed when he finished his set with two of the Skid Row classics, ' I Remember You' and 'Youth Gone Wild'.

loved it last night.

was on the floor and had a great time.

I agree with you fearless that it wasnt a band more individuals. I think if people knew their new stuff the bits when they played them would of been alot better.

Deluxeman where were you up front coz i was around there aswell just left of the centre were the confetti came out at the end.

I was right in the centre, about four rows from the front. Basically had a clear view of Axl directly in front of me when he was playing in the centre of the stage.

l thought the concert was great value firstly, we got rose tattoo classic oz rock band that warmed up the stage. Then came on former skid row wild man seb bach who came out kicking arss from the word go i thought he was cracker or he was on sum thing but he and the crowd were loving it. After they finished rocking up rod laver the stage was red hot ready for axl and his band of misfits guns n roses. l reckon they were very good you got a bit of everything old classic gunners new gunners and solos from all band members only one thing l wood like to know is what was in axl's little black room at the side of the stage? he seemed to frequent there a lot of the time.

i think he had a bit of white line fever back there

Awesome show. Axl showed he still has it all. The new songs didn't get as good a resonse as I thought they would. I love them though. Sebastian Bach is still as crazy as ever, awesome show by him I thought. I just loved seeing Guns N' Roses again. Now just waiting for the album.:thumbsu:

Good show, probably wouldnt call it great. Would of been so much better if they didnt have 3 guitar and 1 piano solos, it really killed the energy of the crowd each time one was played. This was eveident by the amount of people leaving during the last 2 or 3 songs.

Highlight of the night was ealisy My Michelle, with Sebastian joining Axl on stage. Seeing 2 of the finest rock voices going at it was worth the admission price alone. Welcome to the Jungle has to be one of the best songs ever to open a concert with, Robin Fink appearing out of the mist and playing the intro riff was just an awesome experience.

At the end of the day, while it wasnt guns n roses, i enjoyed myself alot more than i did at calder park 14 years ago.

That wouldn't be difficult. A day at a Siberian death camp would be more fun than that....

Anyone go to the gig at Calder in 1990/91? Pretty much the same lineup, interested to know how you would compare it.

Nothing compares to Calder for me as it was my first gig I went to. I was totally obsessed in GNR then too. I survived the heat, wind and rain. I probably enjoyed Rose Tattoo more at Rod Laver. I agree with Willy, My Michelle was definately the highlight. Amazing. Felt like I was a teenager again.:)

Big Gunners fan but didn't go there expecting too much to be honest. Was pleasantly surprised though. Agree with some of the posters that the solo's and new songs killed the vibe a bit but I thought the song selection was great with classics like My Michelle and Rocket Queen.

Calder was awesome, that's for sure. Friday night was great too. I reckon It's so easy cut it up every bit as much as My Michelle. Nightrain and You Could Be Mine rocked pretty hard also.
