Gee....what poise.....i think we have unearthed another reiwoldt....time will be the judge ...but mark my words ..this kids the BOMB.....:thumbsu:...i'm going to enjoy the rest of the year now...:D

has nice hands and a beautiful kick on him, but comparing him to the ilk of riewoldt will only lead to disappointment.

still, very excited about the young lad and have been for a while now. along with sam shaw was my favourite pick from last year's draft.

Liked what I saw on debut a lot but Reiwoldt comparisons....errrr, perhaps just a tad premature don't you think?? :)

Also was keen from time someone posted some highlights before being drafted by us . Just seemed to have something special . really showed nice hands on sat. and moves well. Hope we can put some muscle on.

Really concerned about how good Talia is going to be yet and might have our first rnd draft pick jinx.
haven seen enough of Shaw yet or feedback but hope you are right

Turn it up Head Wobblers, kids only played one game and you got him pegged as the next Reiwoldt. How about you save your comedy act for the pub on friday night

Agree Gunston will be a ....Gun
With Talia a lot of South Adelaide (supporters only not connected) tell me Talia is more of a Ben Rutten type defender, not a high possession winner, but very good on defence, spoiling etc and is good at body on body stuff

The commentators were all really impressed with Gunston as well; great positioning and use of his body, looks very poised and did a few really clever things (tapping it on from marking contests and the like).

Hopefully he'll get another 2-4 games and then he can get himself ready for next year.

Promising.

Let's not go overboard with Franklin/Carey/Reiwoldt comparisons just yet - we don't want to give the Port Power pack on Bay 13 even more ammunition.

Definitely looks a promising type though. I've watched him live in his last 2 games now, and he seems to be one of those players who does everything right - knows where to lead, good hands, beautiful kick and good second efforts. Is still probably another 2 years away from being able to command a spot in the 22 as he needs to grow into his body.

Admittedly I didn't see him play, but surely comparisons to Riewoldt are a bit premature after 1 game, where he kicked 1 goal...

Sure he might be good, but don't jinx Gunner yet.

I agree. Saying he is like Riewoldt is surely overrating him just a little don't you think?

I'd say he's probably closer to Jonathan Brown and Matthew Pavlich with a just a touch of Wayne Carey and Lance Franklin about him.

Has potential quality written all over him ......some of the tap ons and use of his body you just don't expect from a first gamer ......very cool, smart, and mature head on that young mans shoulders

Love that he jumps early for marks, is tall, and has some good speed .....all pretty good combinations

Question marks:
1 Can the kid put on weight ......he doesn't appear to have broad shoulders so there is the probability that he will have Burtons build

2. Due to above ....will he potentially have shoulder problems with a build that slight OR is he smart enough to know where to go and where not on a footy field ....lappin

I genuinely like the look of this lad, which is why I gave a bonus point under rookies for him in the POTY thread!! :)

He's got the build of a skun rabbit at the moment, but even given that, I thought he reads the play well, positions his body well, nice leap and a good pair of hands that will only get better when his body gets stronger.

He's playing before his time, but I've got no hesitation in saying that he will be a player - a genuine AFL player - and a HFF to boot which is a present from heaven.

All he needs at this stage is time to physically develop and mature.

Given the somewhat entetainment nature of the thread, I feel compelled to say "oh yeah, the boy can play!!" :)

Was impressive, like the fact that he's got some footy lineage in the blood too. This was the first time I'd seen him, wish I was at the game to get a better idea but it's clear he has the brand of footy smarts you want from a forward.

Been a bit different this year, not knowing anything about our latest bunch of draftees and "going in blind" if/when they debut.

He looked good on debut. That goal he kicked was class. He summed up the sitsuation well. Most kids would have rushed it and put alot of height on the kick.
I'm starting to think our future half forward line could have Gunna, Davis/McKernan (CHF), Hendo. Two fast and agile with one hard worker.

Best debut since Tom Lee?

Who? afl.has.it has no record of a Tom Lee playing for Adelaide, only a Scott Lee who debuted in our inaugural game against Hawthorn.

Since we all need some cheering up this year, let's recall the scoreline from that game:

Adelaide 24.11.155 d Hawthorn 9.15.69

Klug, Lindner and McIntyre all kicked 4. When was the last time we had three goalkickers with 4 or more?
