Sat. night was my first chance to see the Eagles play as it was the first time they had been broadcast up here in Asia. Our 1st 15 minutes was abysimal - a nightmare and I still can't understand what was up with them. The next 3 quarters, they were heroes.
There are no teams I hate more than the Woods and the Dons - they have been manipulating the AFL since its inception.
Anyway, we move on.
1. It's obvious that Doogs is not a full-forward - play him on a HFF where he can attack the goal face. He needs more space than FF gives him.
2. We have been playing one tall short. We need a target on the full forward line - not the 171cm mighty ant - seeing the Ant playing against Fletcher was ridiculuos.
We need Johnson in and maybe either Graham or Beeck - depending on who plays the best in the WAFL this weekend.
Gasper ? - Did he play in the WAFL?
3. Selby will now go into the ruck, and he'll be good.
4. Morrison needs some time in the WAFL, as does Chick. Chick is either sadly out of touch or he is carrying an injury.
5. Jones is a worry - despite one great one-handed grab against Hird, he is not half the player he was last year, at this stage.
6. It was good to see Atkins stand up - he is getting better and better.
7. Lynch - ditto
8. Bring in Nicoski - we need his devastating, spearing kicks into the forward half.
9. Waters first up effort was good - keep him in the 22.
10. Sampi was nearly the heatbreaker again - he is becoming a star in his own right.
11. Perhaps Selwood could be worth a look at this week for Brisbane; if not then, then soon.

Overall, I'm impressed with the courage and never say die attitude of our players. Woosa is doing wonders with them, but the selectors need to have a rethink. I hope we go in with a taller forward line next Saturday. I also hope that we go for broke fromthe 1st bounce.

there are definatly some guys who need to be dropped. they just haven't performed at all this year. the big question is who do you get to replace them? from what i've seen only seaby andmaybe chambers have been playing well enough in the WAFL to justify getting a game. maybe a few guys will stand up today.

I watched your game with interest, and while you performed well, some things in your selection must be looked at.

For example, your side is still too short. You need a player such as Staker to give your some height in the forward line. Sure, Staker has not performed well as of late, but surely he is one of the best options.

If Adam Hunter continues to play like he did on Saturday, well, I would have no reliance on him. That's just my opinion. Maybe he just needs to kick well under pressure.

Also, your defenders need some real ferocity. Bring back someone like Jeremy Humm. He always goes hard at the footy! At least you can rely on him.

If West Coast sort out these problems, I'm sure you guys are still a top 4 side. You've got a great list, you just need to tweak it to perfection.

Is Selwood injured or is he playing WAFL. If he is actually playing, how is he going and is he ready for a call up? I was impressed with the little bit I saw of him last year and our defence needs a shake up.

Adam Sellwood

Jod, Adam has been injured. He played about half a game last week for the Royals and yesterday was interchanged a few times in the first half but spent the entire second half on the ground. Probably needs some more match fitness.

Zac Beeck

brownbob - Zac has been injured also. He played a bit of Reserves last week, was named to play yesterday but didn't play either reserves or league.

Concerning Beeck + Selwood

Hi Vicki, thank you for updating me on these two. Like you I'm an East Perth member, and I saw the team lists for the Monday games - saw that they weren't in the firsts. You are closer to the Royals scene so I'd be happy if you could update me with news from there from time to time.
I saw Beeck play in our Colts Grand Final win against East Freo, in 2000, and he absolutely dominated, beating Sandilands, who is now of Docker fame, pointless. He was BOG so he is very capable - it's a shame he had those knee injuries. Once he is back on the park, I think we can expect big things from him at the Eagles.

Thanks Vicki for the update. It seems that everyone I want to play is injured. I want Glass at FB, I want Gaspar at CHF, I want Selwood on a half back flank. Wouldnt mind a healthy Banfield either.

brownbob - I will be more than happy to keep you up to date with all things Royal. I go to every game unless it is in direct conflict with a home Eagles game.
We still have a number of senior players to return to the side. Barnard and Prior have yet to play this year. Butcher played his first game last weekend ( serving a suspension), Ainley (one of our best recruits) has yet to play. Brennan and Cowell have only played a couple of games, Vardy missed last week. Looking forward to Zac getting fit also. Ryan Turnbull has played two games now.If and when we get a full complement of players on the field, we will give the finals a shake again.
