News GWS rumours and speculation

I am not 100% on the details but I think the main difference between GWS and GC is that GC only had one year to sign uncontracted players (being 2010) because so many clubs signed up their players on new contracts to cover them from being avalible for GC the AFL have given GWS 2 years to sign uncontracted players so that they have a wider group of players coming out of contract.

100% correct. They can still only sign 1 uncontracted player per club, without clubs permission (see Jared Brennan) but have 2 years to do it.

Re: Official GWS Rumour Thread

there was no bigger country boy, face of the club, loved by his town, family dynasty, home grown boy than garry ablett...

if he can leave for money, anyone can... that includes dale thomas, scott pendelbury and the rest of our list...

if i was head of collingwood, id tell all the players that no one is bigger than any club, especially collingwood, that your name will be forgotten the second you leave town, and that if they're not signed up by june 1st, there is no spot in the team for you...

Three quartesr of your post is dead right, but your last sentence (the bold bit) is just silly IMHO. We still have a 2011 premiership to win, and we may well need all of our list to win it. If we are losing Pendles next year we would be cutting off our nose etc if we gave him away this year.

And as we saw at geelong, the doubt is worse than the reality. If pendles is going it would be better for the Pies if he told the club, we announce it to the public, he gets taken out of the leadership group, and we all move on as ONE to grab this year's flag.

The Ablett denial situation just upset the whole fabric of the club - and we don't want that!!

Re: GWS after Pendles and Daisy

I'll keep saying this over the next 12 months, we will not lose anyone of any worth to that moronic AFL monstrosity.

Swan isn't going, I told you that already, and GWS have already given up on him, they will soon learn that none of the big names at Collingwood are "touchable", and they will give up, and end up taking a Goldsack type of player (fringe player) just like the GC had to.

I'm going to laugh everytime I see crap like this, Sheedy and his martians can throw everything at our players, they won't get them.

Thomas and Pendles are 2 country boys, who simply put, don't want to move interstate, and they won't.

Totally agree with Matty,as i have just mentioned on another thread, players want to play in premierships.Thomas and Pendles are BIG game players playing with a cohesive group who know they can win a few more flags together PLUS they get compensated well, for playing with the biggest club in the land in front of an average crowd of 50,000 per week.

Now if they are getting paid well at collingwood, these players can basically write their own ticket after they retire, win a few more flags, and become legendary in the annals of our great history, why would they want to go to the arse end of Sydney play to no one,win no flags and become obscure for 500 k per year ?

After all if you take to horse to water but you can't make it drink.Goodriddance.

Re: GWS after Pendles and Daisy

My gut feeling is still that they will all stay, but my concerns are more along the lines of a Melbourne based club offering big cash to get them in the next couple of years. It will take some incredibly good negotiating to keep the big players together if they are offered a considerable amount more to move on.

The ablett scenario was different.
Remeber Ablett had stayed with the group for over 10 years, won 2 flags played in 3 grand finals, won every award possible,PLUS his family lived on the Gold Coast meaning his father and brother.
He also had an altercation with bomber thomson during the year, which frustrated him.I guess in the end he firmly believed that he had achieved everything possible at geelong.
Ablett also probably felt like a big fish in a small pond in geelong.

Had the cats not acheived the glory they did and his family was here he would not have moved.

The players in our case have just tasted success and know that together they can achieve big things if they stay together diffrenent scenarios,i reckon. This current group can and will achieve at least 2 or more flags if they stay together, this is what binds them.

I think Ablett and Bomber Thompson was Simmlar to Ball and Ross Lyon

I would also like to add this.
Lets say this group won 3 flags together, are a little older and a few have awards like a brownlow or two then i would say they ahve achieved everything they could together and offres from other clubs may be attractive to them.............That would be a more likely scenario for them to leave,BUT these guys are young, hungry now have belief to achieve a succesion of flags............They will stay together!
I would be very dissaponted if they didn't.

There also another major point that has been missed here that adds to Ablett leaving Geelong. Ablett was on a 4 or 5 year deal and for the last 2 or 3 years his management was trying to increase his salary and Geelong refused. Only when he came out of contract were they prepared to offer him more money (which was still well under what the GC offered). So he was getting paid a lot under his worth for a fair while with Geelong refusing to budge, even though he was the best player in the comp.

Re: Official GWS Rumour Thread

Gold
coast is a great place to live, Western sydney is a shit hole, no-one in their right mind would move there to a club who wont win anything before they retire, for a bit more coin, im sure we will work it out.....

My gut tells me we'll keep Swanny, Daisy & Pendles.

More of a concern is the tier down. Guys like N.Brown, Reid, Wellers, Sidey and Beams who'll be offered big $$ over the next few years.

Need some good juggling of $$ by Walshy.

Ballys' front ended salary cap space will finish this year. Taz on the vets list in 2012. Dids, who I think is our highest paid player, will have his 3rd year on his current deal (2013?) on the vets list and Swanny should be on the vets list in 2013 (pending the new propsed vets list rule-10 years service not age related)

Going by the List that the Contracts end of 2012 then:

Reid,Beams,Sidey and Wellingham are out of GWS Grasp

Dave, GWS have a 2 year window. Players off contract at the end of 2011 & 2012 are fair game to them. Well, 1 is anyway.

I think those 4 Players Contract Run Past the GWS Deadline.

Though I could be very wrong:( Hope Not

The only players out of reach of GWS at this point in time is Maxwell, Jolly & Didak. They are all contracted for the 2013 season.

Everyone else will be uncontracted at some point in the GWS 2 year signing window.

Why would they go?
The only thing in it for them is money and anyway if they stick with us in 5 years or so they probably all would of played in 4 grand finals, 2 top 3 b&f and at least one if not two brownlow top 5s. if they go i don't know why they would because i wouldn't

Even if we lost one of them this team is built on being even across the board and Hine would just pluck another couple of stars out of the drafts arse anyway.

Well we would get a 1st Round Pick for those types of player

Its not good enough and its not what we needat the moment, why take a risk in young players when we have the developed guns. If we were to lose any of Swan, Penda or Daisy no amount of draft picks will mask the pain. I am really worried about Daisy being at Collingwood beyond this year its just a gut feeling I have, bloody hope I am wrong though. The longer it takes them to say they are commited and sign the more media scrutiny we will have and it will affect our deffence for the premiership. Hopefully its done before the start of the season.
