Olympic gymnast joins Fremantle Dockers

Olympic gymnast Allana Slater has joined forces with the Fremantle Dockers coaching staff for the 2004 season.

Assisting with club biomechanist Kevin Ball’s kicking programme, Allana will work with the playing group on the development and performance of routines in taking set shots at goal and also in the recovery from skill errors.

Allana trains between 35 and 40 hours per week, training that is focused primarily upon routines and the development of consistency in skill execution.

It is this dedicated focus on consistency of routine that the club sees that Allana will be of assistance to the playing group and the overall kicking programme developed by Kevin Ball.

Never ceases to amaze me.

awwww..... your guys will look smashing when they pirouettte there way through the banner in purple leotards in Rnd 1.

Actually i read somewhere that she was hired to train some hardness into the squad :p

I can imagine Connelly at the next training session.

"Right boys, instead of the match day drills, we're going to be climbing the goal posts, then using for centre square for our open floor rhythmic gymnastics routine"

It's funny you dont hear anything from them when the Weavils were doing pilates in the off season!!

Cmon ben stretch thoses hammies:)

Another way to look at Allana's consultancy is that we are developing a new midfield strategy.

At the centre bounce down, Bell is to run from the wing and as the ball is bounced, bounce off a crouched Carr onto 211's shoulders and tap the ball to a lopping Hasleby.

If Allana can improve the forward lines accuracy 10%, it is a winning move, and her pretty face will put a smile on the players dial after looking at Stav and CC all day.

Personally I cant see this being to bad a move, It is well known that Gymnasts are some of the mentally & physically strongest athletes around. If Slater can help the Dockers focus more on the game and help them overcome dissapointment then what is the problem. The way football is at the moment you have to think outside the square, any edge on the opposition will be very beneficial.

After bravely resisting the temptation to post an unoriginal, unfunny, derisive comment I must say that I tend to agree with cameronk.

Naysayers/non Freo supporters, feel free to **** off.

I read the article on this appointment and it's not like this girl is giving tips on the actual football side of things, just another aspect on the mental side of the game. As anyone who has followed the sport would know, at the top level it is 90% in the head, if she can provide something in that regard it is all good.

FWIW, I think it is a brilliant move.

Brilliantly put.

Yep got to at least have a go, and some think this is "thinking outside the square". If it is outside the square, great, she obviously knows alot about the mental preparation for a sporting task.

If JLo returns figures of 5.3, instead of 1.7, it is a winner.

Whoa, just had a flashback to Ric Charlesworth's appointment.

I dare say that if the Eagles appointed a ballerina, ahem.. sorry gymnast, to aid in their goal kicking, we'd never hear the end of it from you guys.

Admittedly it looks as though the Eagles are doing a few ballet moves when they first run onto the ground sometimes.

Fremantle go to a gymnast to help with there problems, West Coast go to several Northbridge Identities. Whats the difference??
