Gyroscope have hit their first number 1 album on debut this week.
I am extremely excited for those perth boys. They deserve this so much.
It's such a top album and it really proves how incredible this band is.
They are finally getting the recognition they have deserved for so many years.
I am so damn psyched for them.
I think 08' is going to be a big, big year for the gyro's.
They also made the tour announcement yesterday for Breed Obsession too.
If anyones interested here are the dates:

get down. you won't be disapointed :D
may 17 ill be there at the hifi once again for gyro. hell yeah.

It's a fantastic album from a fantastic band. OK is my personal favourite off the album, and of course the popular Snakeskin is great too. Definitely going to the gig now

Def going to the Melbourne gig (18 under though), they are finally getting some recognition for all their good work in the past, now lets just wait for the bandwagoners to jump on board.
From the new album my favs are Weapon.Enemy.Friend and OK both good songs.

Oh wow!

Great stuff from the boys.

They've come a long way from the days back at the Rosemount playing to a dozen people! That doesn't even feel that long ago.

This album is definitely a grower...I'm digging These Days....killer guitar line

Interesting that they have built upon their more pop-punk roots of the early years quite substantially on this album. I guess that quality diversity is one of their biggest assets though.

It happened long ago...

But who cares....as long as people are listening to quality music

yeah it's about time for the bandwagoners im thinking.
after all nova and fox are playing them at current, going on like this is their first album. they really have no idea!
actually when i saw them on the 1981 tour there were quiet a few showing up then, they'd sing snakeskin and a few would sing 1981 but the rest of the hour and 25 minutes of the show with the golden gyro tunes they just stood about looking bored. douchebags.

im listening to the album right now, of course.
i am definitely obsessed with all in one one.
i cant stop singing it. dans voice is just AH!
actually his voice is just amazing the whole album. he's taken his vocals to a whole new level.

i first heard them on nova of all stations probably about 3 weeks ago now.
i was pure shocked
im glad people are finally tapping in. its taken long enough though
its a relief to FINALLY hear something quality on radio. very very rare for me.
this is def the beggining of a big big gyro year :D

I went to the Breakout concert I think Nova was one of the supporters or something anyway they were talking up Gyro as if they discovered them first or something, not once have I heard a song from SSS, AYI or from the days when they were Gyroscope Sunday on Nova or any other commercial station.

from memory, Safe Forever got a small spin on commercial radio...Fast Girl and Sexxxy a little more and now obviously Snakeskin.

Snakeskin being picked up as the AFL's theme song for 2008 won't do any harm either...

I still think the majority of their stuff is too quirky for commercial radio but it's great that these few songs that are played lure people in

hehe not sure you would have heard Gyroscope Sunday on any station :p

True I guess, but do you think they made the new album to be more commercially succesful?
I personally don't think they did it seems to follow more along the lines of AYI than SSS but I doubt they will ever be like that again apart from if you see them live (which I strongly recommend)

Thats the problem with radio these days and why I dont listen to it half the time (except triple J), all they play is washed up pop crap.

Fantastic band this and the credit is well deserved. Kick ass album too :thumbsu:

No I don't. They are evolving and refining their sound but it isn't really any different to their previous material.

Obviously you can still hear the harder tracks from the SSS and ME EP days, they have build upon their more pop-rock Take Time EP sound and are still adding a few different facets in as they explore.

But even the softer style songs on this album have been done in the past with Sharp Words, Misery, Sexxxy, She Will Come etc

Polyphons and Matidors is really the only song that strays substantially from what they have done previously

actually talking to the boys i think everything like this that happens to them, especially such success of a number 1 album they are just shell shocked
and very grateful.
they have never come across to me as guys who want to make it big in the states or wherever else or be played commercially.
they have been doing the same thing for many years now and they seem pretty content with it, anything else that happens is just an added bonus and excitement i guess.
thats how i see it anyway.
they are one of the very few still pure genuine successful bands out right now.
bands like kisschasy and shit who in recent times have had big success have really let it get to their head
they think their too awesome for everyone these days which is just plain disapointing.

couldn't ever see the gyros going down that path.
man i really am loving snakeskin on the footy ad's
one just came on, it just makes me smile!

Here's a review i read on BO from the Herald Sun Thursday, March 13 in the Hit liftout

Gyroscope: Breed Obsession (Warner)

Once incredibly promising, Perth's Gyroscope have now seemes to have settled into the meat and potato-ness of their four-man rock line-up.
When not painting in simple Foo Fighters tones of soft then loud,Breed Obession resides in a dirgery rut. Or, on the poncey Australia - enough to give our country a bad name - a plain old dodgy rut. It's not the only embarrassing moment (see 1981 their attempt to be Muse).
Hindered by cringeworthy lyicrs and flat vocals, Breed never escapes its tough-slog vibe, as hard as the sly swing of Polyphons and Multidoors might try to beak up the mix. A lot of dull work for little reward.
The Verdict: 2 stars
In a word: wrong
Other releases: Sound Shattering Sound

Neala Johnson

Now I don't know about you but when I read that I immediately thought that the reviewer knew next to nothing about Gyro, it's simple in nearly all of their songs it is quite then it becomes loud when the chorus hits I fail to understand how that makes them the same as the Foo Fighters, also imo 1981 sounds nothing like a Muse song at all so I don't know why that comparison was made, all in all that review made me want to buy the album all the more just because I knew it would be the complete opposite.

oh yes. that gigantic piece of shit review.
i read it and almost instantly had a headache
i got so angry.
i immediately sent neala a email.
not that she'll probably read it but she deserved some criticism to that piece of junk.

she couldnt have been any further from the mark with the review.
i have noticed just hit journalists dont like gyro. i dont know why but that was the thrid article i think recently on gyroscope that they had something nasty to say.

if i thought gyro sounded even remotely like muse they would not be my favourite band at all. i personally cannot stand muse, not in the slightest and for her to say that i was just thinking huh?
yeah shes entitled to her opinion, shes a journo etc but she should really do some research and proper listening before making such a crap review.

funny thing is every other review i have read have all given incredible reviews giving the album usually a 9 or even a 10 out of 10.
ah well i guess its just a review and thats one persons opinion.
ill shut it now!

1981 is an attempt to be Muse ? Sounds nothing like Muse to me, I usually ignore these reviews in the paper, generally the reviewers seem to have no idea. Great to see Gyroscope having some success, one of the best bands in the country at the moment. :thumbsu:

Don't shut it let it all out it made me feel a bit better, it just seems to me that they gave the album one spin and rated it on that, yes there are no stand out singles but they aren't a fake band that makes an album with only 2 decent songs on it then fade into oblivion with a truck-load of money.
The thing I find about the guys is that they are so down to earth, they take time out to talk to people and at their gigs they aren't standing 10 feet away and to scared to come close to the edge and get near their fans, hell dan gets right up to the crowd, I reckon if he had it his way he might play in the crowd.

Beware Wolf is an incredible song, and I was really hoping they'd continue in that style. Snakeskin disappointed greatly, as it was a revert to their same-same punk, Doctor Doctor days. I haven't bothered with anything else from Greed Obsession.

I think you will find that their same-same punk was what drew most people to liking Gyro, and that Beware Wolf was something sort of new for them, yes they did softer songs on SSS but tbh they werent that flash. If you haven't bothered with anything else from the album then thats your loss but OK and These Days are similar to Beware Wolf and are very good.

Also judging an album by one song is a real good way to rate an album

While I'm not quite as critical of the album as Ize is, I'm certainly not as impressed with it as anyone else in the thread.

It's just missing something, and it's a pretty definitive something, because AYI? had it and then some, it's certainly one of the better Aussie albums to come out in recent years. But BO just doesn't grab me in the same way that AYI? did. To be honest, I'm kind of agreeing with the HUN review...I was expecting something sensational, from this Aussie band which has promised so much...and they didn't deliver.

Perhaps it's just a time thing. Probably needs a few more listens. But I felt the same way about Young Modern last year, and time didn't improve that.

Great band (as you can tell from my username) and top album. Great to see recognition, just wonder how commerical radio will do with these results.

Great live band too, get to the gigs if you can.
