Hard to know what to say about hacking it off the ground. It just seems that it's a guaranteed turnover.
Relieves immediate pressure but so does pissing in your pants.
Does anybody have any stats? I reckon you're better off to pick it up and kick it or handball it.

So you pick the ball up two metres out from your goal and handball it through?
Is there an option for a donkey vote.

Pisstake thread I know but Dan Buttler has 3x kicked to a team mate successfully off the deck already from memory- if you have an opponent sweating on you and you will be tackled as soon as you bend over to pick it up I reckon it is a smart play.

Pissing in your pants however is a turn on for Germans.

only should be a genuine option in wet greasy conditions where it becomes harder to pick up cleanly otherwise yeah, often it ****s up

I voted "NO" as there is a big difference between a hack kick and a deft use of the foot to propel the ball to a team mate (like Butler did against the pies). One is a desperate and useless move and the other is using your brains in that split second. Obviously in terribly wet conditions, propelling the ball forwards at all costs is a necessity. However, that is a unique circumstance.

Remember McIntosh with his 4 or 5 kicks off the ground - along the outer wing at full pace.... resulted in a goal to someone.

It definitely has it's place. Always in the wet, and if it's a choice between the kick off the ground or being immediately tackled and dispossessed when you pick the ball up...off the ground.

Kick it forward, but give it a good hack, and hopefully to a contest at least. That results in worst case scenario of the opposition at least having to get it back the 40 metres it came while under pressure.
