More bad news for Aaron Hamill, with afl.com carrying the story that Aaron Hamill almost immediately re-injured his troublesome right knee when pre-season training recommenced last week.

As much as it pains me to say this, it must be time to assess whether Hamill will ever again be anywhere as good as he once was, or whether he will even play again for St Kilda.

While he nowhere near as weak as Luke Penny, who retired from chronic knee injuries, Hamill must be getting to a place where he is losing trust in his body.

I'd like to hear anyone's thoughts on whether Sammy should call it quits.

Should have known the first "remarK" would have been from a Carlton supporter - they go around all the other team's threads trying to sate themselves on someone else's misfortune. Anything to take their minds off their own club's pathetic situation.

One year of Hamill would have still given us better value on the deal than Carlton got (Luke Livingston & Sam Cranage). And we have got four good years, and the last two of Hamill oft-injured.

Enjoy another #1 pick, fellas.

It doesn't matter, Carlton are used to failure in everything they do by now.

How severe is the injury? A 12 month job? He was struggling enough as it is, this is a huge blow to not only his career but his life after football..how will the poor guy be able to walk without pain?

Dont let the minority spoil your judgement. I feel for the guy. While it pains me to see him in an aints jumper, still luv watvching him play. Plays the game as it should be played, but the way he plays it is to his own detriment. Hope he gets up and proves many wrong, but i think the time is nigh for him. And anyone who wishes misfortune well, get a life.

I reckon once he gets it right again, he ought to play every Game as if it was his last....NO HOLDING BACK.... trying to be fit for the finals...

Sometimes when you brace your falls, when you try to avoid a turn, when you are thinking too much about protection THATS WHEN YOU GET HURT..
Because you are not falling Naturally....as you did as a younger player..

In fact all players should do this..

Towards the end of the Season, it seems like some players are protecting and not risking getting in the mix a bit so they can be fit to play FINALS.....I know there are a few at Freo that "eased up "

Is Hamil Coaching material.?...He seems like a leader on the field.

I admit that Hamill is a very good on field leader and pretty competent player. Should have been your permanent captain. However, I just don't understand why apart from his leadership (which Thomas clearly didn't rate high enough to permanently appoint him) he is rated so highly. Truthfully, I'm not sure his playing record would support it.

Its a shame he will be missing though, perhaps even finished, as he was an entertaining, good old fashioned player to watch though.

I'd like to see a few more Mooney/Hamill matchups over the next few years.

As this is the St Kilda board any opposition supporters who want to direct any pot shots at Aaron or any of our supporters will receive an infraction and have their posts deleted.

To respond to your observations.

1. GT's policy did not allow Hamill to be a permenant captain, however he was the first change GT made. I think a number of Saints supporters would agree that it would have been great for him to be captain in future seasons. He and Kosi have been the standouts of the policy.
2. Hamill's importance to the forward line is huge. His attack on the footy results in numerous opportunities for the small forwards and his desperations sets an selfless example for other to follow. This allows us to lock the ball in the forward line.
3. His clashes with Mooney were fantastic to watch. I recall Mooney playing the player the entire game in the pre season cup final. He seemed to have the better untill Hamill until he broke free in the last quarter and won it for us.

I am afraid that even if Hamill makes it back to the field his impact will be reduced to maintain his body. I can not imagine a Hamill pulling out of contests and drastically chaning his game plan to suit.

Could this be the end of our wrecking ball? What would his impact be without his impact ability?

Let's hope he gets back and can still put it on the park the way he wants to, we need him.

Very glad to hear today's news that there is not structural damage and our man should be out for the new year.

Excellent news

Hamill relieved after exploratory knee surgery shows all clear

ST KILDA forward Aaron Hamill may return to training, albeit on a moderated program, within a month after having exploratory surgery on his right knee last Friday.
According to the Saints, the fear that a career-threatening, chronic problem would be discovered was dispelled by the surgery, which was ordered after the former captain returned to training almost a fortnight ago and reported swelling and soreness in the knee.
"He had a repeat arthroscopy and has begun a rehabilitation program. It's anticipated he'll have a gradual return to full training, which is a positive result for Aaron," St Kilda football manager Ken Sheldon said. "He'll rest and rehab his knee and certainly, at this stage, he won't require any further surgery."
The post-operative news for the 29-year-old, who missed three months of football during the year because of a posterior cruciate injury in the same knee, means that unless further complications arise he will be able to recommence the full pre-season training program in the new year.
