Do you think I'm not over Blakey yet? Maybe it's been a bit hard to totally let him go. Had some counselling, but it's been a struggle.
Had some diversional therapy in the form of Simpson and Blicavs, and that's been great.
I'm getting there. Each year, the pain subsides somewhat.

Starting to talk to myself again. Bad sign.

You reckon a ruckman covers as much ground as a midfielder? Or even a forward pocket nowadays?
Yeah I do. But that's besides the point. If Ottens can manage to play after 20 odd games out then Chappy can too. And despite his injury history he's been a fairly durable player... He's experienced, he's not selfish and he's playing VFL this week anyway which to me seems plenty of time (bar any setbacks) to get fit enough for finals.

It is weird though, our English language, two words spelt identically, can have almost polar opposite meanings.

In that case ('resign' & 're-sign'), it's two words almost spelt identically.

'Mandate' is an example of a word that allows for two diametrically opposed meanings.

We can only hope. Perhaps there was something in what Selwood said on Game Day where he hopes to see him back in a few weeks.
As long as Balmey didnt say it we have have a chance..!

Go Catters

Scott said in his press conference that regarding H-Mac, it's too difficult to predict any timeline for return until he gets back on the park. I guess that refers to his fitness, form and confidence that his body will hold up.

geez' just look at some of those names....McIntosh, Chapman, Menzel, Christensen

Be wonderful to have Menzel, Chappy in the current forward line and then McIntosh & Simpson slogging it out for the no.1 ruck spot

HMac was "only" listed as '1-2 weeks' on this week's injury list. Someone must have got that info away to the media before Balmey saw it.;)

What if he plays next weekend in the twos (VFL Round 18, seniors away to WCE)? TV game away to the Borough would give us all a chance to see how he gets on.

If he manages that, VFL Round 19 is away to Bendigo (seniors at home to the Swans).

Would be huge if he could make a contribution and get through those two weeks unscathed.

The following week, AFL Round 23 has us at home to the Lions. Would he be considered for this final H&A game to gauge whether there's a possibility of him being any value in the finals?

Massive long shot, of course, but that's the only timeline I can imagine that might see him even remotely considered for seniors in 2013.

Dare to dream...

I think if he can play vfl in the next two weeks, they will roll the dice and bring him in the last round before the finals, same as they did with Otto in 09.

He's gotta play vfl now though, time is short.

If he doesn't play VFL in one of the 2 games remaining after this weekend, then he can't play VFL Finals, and he'd have to go straight into the AFL after no games in 2011, 7 in 2012, and none since May 2012.
He has been out all that time with leg injuries preventing him training.
Even if you do throw one or two 2nds games into that list (one of them, at least. less than full game-time), he cannot possibly be sufficiently match-fit for an AFL Final.

Would have to play next week I feel. Its a long shot, but would at least like him to be in position to play finals. I would imagine that our first final will utilise our existing ruck setup....but if we did get exposed.....like we did against North, then I think our next final would be an opportunity. You have to be bold to win premierships.

Wed be crazy not to name him. Even if he just stepped on the field for a few seconds and then called it a day.

Some crazy talk in this thread now.

So let's get this straight.
We give a guy a 3 contract, work on his rehab all year, and then throw him in the deep end without a snorkel?

FFS, we and the club dont even know how he will fit into the team game style.
I bet I'm fitter than Hmac and that's saying something.

Well yeah. As it stands now we have no ruck set up. At least for this match. I'd prefer we roll the dice and put it all to bed or be pleasantly surprised.

No way.

This isn't a Melbourne cup where you have $2 on the horse with pretty colours.
This is a professional sport. You dont gamble with an asset that has shown absolutely nothing.

I reckon next week we'll see Vardy and Walker out, and Blitz and West back in anyway.

I don't believe that looking at him playing a couple of games in the twos before potentially being considered for the final H&A game in the seniors would be 'throwing him in the deep end without a snorkel.' But that's just my opinion.

FFS, we and the club dont even know how he will fit into the team game style.

Pretty confident that anyone who stems the bleeding that's happening at clearances for us right now will 'fit into the team game style'. I understand that the midfielders need to lift; I also believe we should do anything we can to improve our competitiveness before the ball hits the ground.

How many times a week do you train, vc? Anyway, thanks for the offer, but given the choice between you and HMac I'll stick with the big guy.:p

If you read the posts I think the general support for Hmac is aimed at given him the opportunity to put his hand up for selection.

No one is saying he will be selected as he could be absolutely woeful after so much time off, but I think we need to role the dice regarding his fitness and give him the opportunity to see if he could make a difference - be that at VFL or through a couple of senior games before end of year.

Our Ruck setup is hurting us, so if we do have a potential solution we should at least try it and Hmac (who by all reports is very close to fitness) should be tried.

He's been apparently running for the last 3 weeks building up fitness, it's not like he's sitting on a coach and all of the sudden he's going to be given a VFL game.

Last week in our medical room he was 1-2 weeks from training with the main group and form there you put your hand up for VFL selection, so baring any another set backs, he should be right to go next week or after fingers crossed.
