That article is trash, as mentioned previously I'd say it's not so much the compensation, more to stop any future GWS raids. The vile, albeit veiled, continued attacks on Rockliff are pathetic. New phrase for around these parts; Sack the Hack.

Is the article anywhere on the web or do you have to get the paper?

Actually after a bit of thought about our resident Rex Hunt baiting me the old tackle-box has a point. I mean with a little bit of editing one can read the quote as

All I know is that I enjoy reading Hammo (on the internet) and I don't them to change or remove columnists just because the Lions supporters civil union want to silence their critics with threats of a media inquiry.

It hard not agree with this logic. What right have we to complain? After all we have a vested interest in our support of the Lions just as much as Scoop does when working for News Corp. Him writing something controversial be it what we want to hear or want we don't want to hear is neither here nor there. Kinda sums up life when one thinks about it.

I wonder if Hammo had his nose put out of joint a little by Rocky's jab back in his acceptance speech?

Hammo being petty? Hard to believe...

A banner suggestion for next season??

It's just sad that he formed an opinion of Rockliff after a few games and when it became clear that he was entirely wrong, he was too weak to back down from it. Even when Rocky becomes one of our most solid contributors week in and out, and a very deserved club champ, he finds an avenue to pay him out. Can't stand it anymore. Want to start writing retaliation articles about him. It's especially painful to any aspiring sports journos - positions are so hard to get, and when such an untalented and arrogant jerk has one - I guess that's just how the world works.

Then again, can't expect too much more than arrogance from a Swans fan.

Oh, and I have it on good authority that many people at the club dislike Hammo greatly. One of my mates who works in the media department said they often make jokes about him. And I think the increase in his opinion pieces have come as a result of the club being unwilling to give him any actual news.

Can we just get Mike Sheahan to move up here and write about us instead?

Welcome to the Lions board and also to the Hammo is a hack club :)

Can we start a petition to have him band from writing anything about the lions... Any way we can add a poll on this thread to see what people think ?

What he wrote about the lions B&F was disgraceful. Simon Black may have deserved it just as much as Rockliff. But the fact is Rockliff was consistantly good over the whole season. May not have been consistantly the best player every week. But to basically say Rockliff didn't deserve the award is more a reflection on Hamo than anything else. Its easy to be critical about something and write on what you think. It takes skill to write and pay homage to something you don't agree with.

Simon Black came 2nd in B&F for gode sake Hamo. Fair enough pay out the system if Black wasn't in the top 3 or 4. But if your spitting the dumy over someone coming 2nd instead of 1st... Screems out sore loser!

Any chance the hack reads the forums here at bigfooty for ideas?

Because Clarke and Duffield are names that have been talked about on the forum.

Thanks for the welcome :)

And today's article really is atrocious also. Not a single quote or fact - just 'it is believed'. Really something the AFL needs to look into. Meanwhile, loved Davis giving a large column to the NEAFL grand final today. Great to see. Bet Hammo wanted to use that to write about how bad Jonathan Brown is.

I noticed that somehow Hammo didn't manage to work Simon Black into today's piece, but all wasn't lost, clock who's in the background of the accompanying Clarko pic. :p

Really something the AFL needs to look into.

Based on the angle that our resident fisherman used I suspect that there is little that the AFL can do. I mean the reality is that Hammo has lured us all in here. He has grabbed us all hook line and sinker and we have not got away from a bit of carping about him.

Perhaps we could get, say a rudd, to stick a pike into News Corp. A little barb may not hurt them though how they tackle that will be hard fathom.

John's spot on. Every moronic and baiting article that's linked on here gets another 100+ page views on the Courier Mail's website, and is money in the bank for keeping him in a job.

Exactly. Stop buying the CM and stop reading his articles online and contact the paper to let them know why they've lost yet more readers/customers. Surely money is the only thing that counts to them.

Ill counter that by saying the courier mail doesn't want its readers to think their writers are hacks... And if people are thinking this, then once they see who did the article they wont even read the page... Meaning I as an AFL/sports fan... I am that much less inclined to buy the paper if say the lions have a great win or someone wins the club best and fairest *Cough*Cough*

I'm pretty sure the Courier Mail couldn't care less what people think of individual writers and whether or not they read the page, if they're still buying the paper. I like to think of this as the Michael Bowers system of management. ;)
