So here are a bunch of ruckmen for you to choose from, so give me 1 or more ruckmen that you would take

Chose G because I value a ruckman's ability to create their own clearances and physically harass the opposition and G had the best balance between clearances and tackles.

Our man the Mighty Mullet and my favourite non-Tiger ruckman (Mumford) are both really good at making life hard for the opposition mids and I think that's super important.

So which one is Hampson?

This is true and a real worry.

We have lost our ability to move the ball quickly and cleanly from defence to attack and I can't help but wonder if the fact that we're trying to do it with effectively only 17 players rather than 18 has something to do with it.

If a bloke can't read the play at all and can't kick the bloody ball then what's he doing out there?

RT I admire the passion of your defence but do you need stats to spot a spud? As well as nut stats, do you have stats on the number of games he impacts on a significant basis? How about the number of contests he doesn't get to? How about the number of times he wins/losses the tap and then just watches? I don't give a rat toss whether he gets more or less kicks,handballs or marks than Player A-J, all I want to know is he good enough to take us to a flag? Will he ever be? He has been tried him up forward as well with no success. I'm sure Griggy has great stats to, but I don't need those either to rate his game.

E or F - probably E. For me, apart from ruck contests, marks around the ground are the next most important for a big fella.

Great thread idea, and I have been a defender of his, but he is nothing more than an obstacle after the taps.

I will reveal the players once the poll closes Saturday morning. FWIW Hampsons numbers aren't included in the poll as I asked specifically for posters to choose a player/s that they would take in his place.

I'll stick by the eye test over some hand-picked stats to try to defend him.

He's not a terrible player but he has no around the ground skills and he's working on one functional knee. Carlton weren't fussed to lose him for a reason. They'd seen it all and teared their hair out about his "potential" for years.

And we're still waiting on that potential.

You have been one of his biggest critics, especially carrying on about his lack of marking, yet when compared to all those above his numbers are very similar to all but 2 of them in terms of marking both around the ground and I50.

They are but most of the complaints about Hampson are about his impact after the hitout is won/lost.

I think he has left those out as Hampson is leading those stats and itrs more about after the tap that we are all jumping up and down.

Maybe I'm missing the point of this thread then as to me whoever wins this means nothing as to the context if you then look at it and say well he's not a good tap ruckman or he is classed as a ruckman but spends more time in a forward role anyway.

We'd all love to pick and choose parts of a ruckman but it's the value of the whole that makes a footballer.

exactly.... Two Hale Types are better than two Hampson types. The recruitment of Hampson is and will always be a mistake because he offer just the same as all the other goofy "tap out" rucks.

_RT_ use what ever stat you like but nothing will convince me we are a better side with Hampson in it.
