  • FREMANTLE has moved to block opposition clubs swooping on superstar pair Matthew Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands next year.
Pavlich and Sandilands will attract offers of up to $1.5 million a season as marquee players to join new AFL club Gold Coast when it enters the competition in 2011.
The "hands off" warning has been issued from Dockers' football operations general manager Chris Bond and is aimed directly at Gold Coast, which is scouring the nation for boutique stars.
Attempts to lock the duo into new long-term deals at Fremantle could be launched before the end of this season, or early next year.

"Key players who fit into that model won't be allowed to do that, but we won't be held to ransom on the other side of things as well."

Yay!!! Not getting bent over! sounds good to me! :)

"We expect Matthew to be at Fremantle for the rest of his career," he said.

"You're talking about our captain, who is probably the most respected player who has ever been at this football club.

Yes well i expect him to play out his career and will be bitterly dissapointed if he was to leave, whether to the GC or some other club. I hope he has more honour than that wank Judd who left the club.... 'oh i want to go home' sook.

"We would expect Aaron to finish his career here as well."

I wouldn't expect anything less from 211, i don't see him going anywhere.

Bond, in his first full season in charge of Fremantle football affairs, also gave clear indication veterans Paul Hasleby and Dean Solomon could be offered contracts at the end of this season to extend their careers.

Solly and Hase both deserve another year, atleast, so thats a good sign.

Guys, what do you think of the theory that Pavlich has, what, 4 or 5 seasons left. You probably won't win a premiership while he's there. He still has currency. You could trade him for a Top 3 draft pick and be on your way to building a genuine premiership list.

I'd love to have Pavlich on the Cats list, but we couldn't afford him.

It is a good chance to front load some contracts over the next year or 2. With 8 or so rookies this year, and i'd imagine another 7 or 8 next year, there's a third of the list that are on compulsory low salaries, leaving stacks of room to pay our best players a lot more for a year or 2 before bringing it back in 2011 and 2012 to more realistic levels when our decent rookies will be expecting pay rises.

Both players r champions and every club in the comp would want them on their list.
Except Essendon of course:D:thumbsu:

Exactly:thumbsu:, It'd be interesting to see how much each of the players get, but I guess we would have to take a guess at it. Then we could work it out form there, If anyone can add more info it would be good.

I hear what your saying but remember that Hase was out for a log time with the knee AND the back related issues, so a lowered contract was pretty much inevitable. While grover you could expect seeing as he's been arounf for so long, while Schammer and Johnson, yeah maybe they are a little high but I wouldn't be surprised if they were asround that mark. Headland I feel will almost be dropping another rung if he doesn't put some games on the board SOON

The club is playing this perfectly ....when you think that the Blues payed 400K a year over 4 for Warncock?

I just want to make sure Stephen 'Linda Rondstat' Hill and Rhys Palmer are always well in contract.
