harness tip comp

im thinking of starting a tipping comp for harness racing with discussion running wild lately!
An awesome field would looks something like this; Danger Mouse, Brooklyn Bute, Stressless (the reigning champ), Sethlad, Great_Source, Brenno, Island_Bomber, Bernie_Lomax and any others who would like to join!
Im only too happy to run it but how would it work? Looking for ideas guys.
Firstly, it MUST be over the weekend, Friday night or Saturday night, much easier for doing results if its all at the same day or the day after.
But do we go with only covering the major race or two of the week, only selecting at one set meeting, one or a few selection/s that can be at any meeting ie one at MV and one at HP? What do you blokes think?
Also for how results work. Will it be $10unit the win and $10 the place, or just $10. Or do we go with the spring carnival comp pro_punter is running and say we have a limit of $100 at one meeting/for the weekend. And then do we get what it pays as our return or do we have a point system ie a winner paying $1.50 earns you 1point but a winner paying $15 earns you 10points?
Idea anyone?

Whatever you come up with i'd like to be a part of.

Using the supertab dividends as your points system will reward those who broaden their vision with longer priced selections, but one flukey longshot at 50-1 could ruin the competition too!

A mixture of both points & tote odds for bonus points would be better i think.

eg. points 1st - 4pts, 2nd - 2pts, 3rd - 1pt.

The points would always be administered for first, second & third, but........bonus points would be awarded as the prices of the winners/places got longer.

So if you tipped a winner that was odds on (1.90 or less) only the 4 - 2 - 1 points apply.

Bonus points would then apply and added to the above points with winners in the different odds ranges as such.

2.00 to 3.90 1st-4 2nd-2 3rd-1
4.00 to 5.90 1st-5 2nd-3 3rd-2
6.00 to 9.90 1st-7 2nd-5 3rd-3
10.00 to 14.90 1st-9 2nd-6 3rd-4
15.00 to 24.90 1st-12 2nd-8 3rd-5
25.00 & above 1st-15 2nd-10 3rd-6

Determining the starting prices is easy, as that info can be obtained from the TAB website which has the final tote odds displayed in the results section.

So with that system if you picked a winner paying 7.20 you would get 4pts for the winner plus a bonus of 7 for it falling in the 6.00 to 9.90 catergory = 11 points total.

An odds on winner would nett you only 4 points.

A selection that ran third, with it's final win dividend being $17.60 would get you 1pt plus a bonus of 5 for being in the 15.00 to 24.90 catergory = 6pts

How would that go.

I would use friday & sat night meetings, but unsure how many or where?

I'm easily pleased however you run it. Be sad for me if you only do it for Vic trots though but i try my best anyway! Try to have it running by this weekend, gives us all a bit more entertainment!

I want to beat Stressless, lol... Don't care if i run second last as long as i beat him home!

I reckon between us we've nailed it........let's give it a crack!

How about for a trial run we have a go at tomorrow nights meetings with tips to be in 10 minutes before your first race kicks off.

If all goes well we can kick off this fri/sat for a period of time as our first competition. (4 weeks, 5 weeks or how ever long we desire).

If anyone has any tips as to some rules, let CarltonBlue know so he can set up the rules prior.

yep 2moro meetings are at Yarra Valley, Bathurst, Geelong and Redcliffe, anyone who wants to have a test run is most welcome.
The 10minute rule seems good. also NO EDITING of posts whatsoever, submit a new post if you must. EDITERS WILL be disqualified!
Now a scratching rule! Does it go onto the fave or will an extra unit go towards your next selection. ie if your 3rd runner for the night is scratched the extra unit goes onto your 4th runner, meaning you get double points for the 4th runner. If its the 5th runner (remembering we are only using 5selections) that is scratched the extra unit will go towards your 1st selection. However if you realise you have picked a horse that is scratched DO NOT EDIT YOUR POST, post a seperate replacement.
if the captain is scratched the extra 2units will go to the next runner (this is in order of scheduled start time)

screw the points system...keep it nice and simple...like what pro punter is doing...have a $100 limit for the major meeting eg mv or brisbane...the simpler the better....lets get it started up by this saturday night

Sounds good Carlton, I'm not really fussed with how the comp is run either way would be fine with me. I'm a 80% trifecta 20% win punter so it doesn't matter to me which way you go.

l prefer Friday or Saturday nights, Vic would be my first choice but l'm not really fussed if it's NSW, QLD or WA.

EG. 20 win smoken up....but also

20 win blacks a fake in brisbane??

or should be just stick to MV...that would probably be the simplest

Not phased how we go about it, just thought it would be novel to have something of our own and a bit different from the Spring Competition.

Forced to select I would go for 'A', but happy with any form.

Hey, all you have to do is find 5 winners, let the organisers do the scoring..........it is basic really!

Pick a 6.50 winner you get 12 pts
Pick an odds on winner you get 4 pts
Pick a 2nd placegetter who started at TAB odds of 24.30 for the win and you get 10pts
Pick a 3rd placegetter who was 3.60 the win at the jump you get 2pts

etc etc etc...........should test our skills at finding different priced winners to build our points.

yer im leaning towards A personally but am just worried about the others.

you might only be able to pick out 3 at a given meeting and the chance to use another meeting could be useful, or for those that live in QLD or WA ie Danger Mouse (i think)

and yeh the points system doesnt let a blowout $20Win shot get right out in front like haywood_jablome is in the spring comp (or whatever he had).
