According to Balmey Harry Taylor might not take the field again until the Final against Hawthorn;

Cats cautious with concussed defender

Geelong appears certain to err on the side of caution and rule concussed Cat Harry Taylor out of Friday night's blockbuster against Collingwood.

Taylor was subbed off after being crunched in a massive pack during the second quarter of the Cats' shock 13-point loss against Sydney on Saturday.
He will undergo the standard concussion tests and cognitive examinations this week, but it appears the Cats will not risk his health for a game of minimal significance.

"It's more than likely (Taylor won't play), given there's no outcome on the game in that it's not important to whether we make (the finals)," Geelong football manager Neil Balme said yesterday.

"If it was a first final, then we would treat it totally different, so we expect he won't play but we've still got to make a decision based on the evidence we get..."

Yep, expected this...Hope your ok harry, he seemed not too bad

Not the biggest deal, Harry Taylor owns hawthorn so as long as hes ready for QF its no big.

Scarlett to Dawes, Lonergan and Cloke.

It probably allows us to keep and ace up our sleeve i think.

If we play them in a PF or hopefully GF im sure Scott will want to release scarlett, which we cant do know this week. Hopefully its a move we can bring in to them when it matters and hopefully they dont have a plan to counter it..

Actually I'd go the other way fpm, I suspect, given that this is essentially a 'finals prep' game, Collingwood have Dawes play pretty high up the ground all night so he can find match fitness (given he's just missed 2 months) so I'd send Scarlett to him as it'd get him to positions that he can have an attacking impact from. Lonergan to Cloke and I'm not sure who to Brown, Milburn maybe? I wouldn't discount Mooney playing down back either, if they don't want to show their hand yet on which one (out of Mooney and Hawkins) will play in the QF then that's the likely outcome.

Is that a pig I just saw go over then.

But while were playing make believe how about big Westy down back and give Dawson a run in the ruck.Nothing wrong with a big crash and bash ruckman last game of the home and away.He have something to prove.

There ya go chop that up.

Dawson not really a crash and bash type yet....now Trent West, he is somebody who doesn't mind leaping into a bit of trouble. I think what we will see if Harry misses is Westy playing a larger role across Half Back and dropping into the hole. He has played that possie for the 2's a number of times.

Lonergan will go to Cloke...he is our number 1 key position defender at the moment and has more strength to go with the big guys. Scarlo will do his bit on Dawes, but if Westy can drop back and help out on occasions, combined with Enright and (hopefully) Milburn, we will cover the big forwards with ease....it is the little blokes who are dangerous and kicking goals now for the pies....Beams has been in great form and so has Swan, then add Blair, Fasola, Krakouer and a few others and we might have a few issues.

That's the other option and I'm not against it given West does CHB well in the VFL. But really, if they see Dawson as no chance unless Otto is injured, and if they are preparing West to be 2nd ruck for finals, surely you wouldn't do that, and it's better he rucks, not to mention if he goes CHB Hawkins has to ruck yet again.

I'm only going off the fact that Scott has said Mooney has to prove his fitness not his form, because if fit he's clearly in the best 22 (I don't agree with that, but it's definitely what he's said a number of times). Well if the coach believes that, then it matters not whether he plays forward or back so it actually makes more sense for him to go there than West.

Assuming the coach is not that fussed about the result of the game of course.

Agree with what you are saying in regards to Scott on Moons and I don't expect what I'm saying most times to happen.(EVER)

This week against the Pies with Taylor out I was thinking something different.
I wasn't suggesting Otto not play, but to go in with the two bigs in the ruck Otto and Simpson,West at CHB,Hawkins CHF,
With nothing really needed from this game except a strong showing it would at least give Simpson a hit out in the one's which could be valuable if Otto was unavailable for a final.
It keeps West in the side, and importantly keeps Hawkins in the forward half.

If Scott is thinking Dads army then swap Hawk for Moons.

what about a true 'wild card' left-field selection - Bathie to come in and play on Dawes? I know he is a rookie, but can't we replace Drum on our list?
The cut off point for nominated rookies was a couple of weeks ago, IIRC. So no.

A bunch of IF's.

If taylor is out
And If our structures are not working.
And IF Scott really doesn't care about the game.
And If Hawkins is not getting much of it forward.
Swing him back for a while. I swear he will be good.

Lets face it. If Dawes is leading up the wings we dont want to waste Scarlett chasing tail out there. We'll get smashed if he is.

Having said that I don't reckon it's a card they would use this week IF they have ever had that thought go through their heads.

No chance.

Bathie's been good, but we're only focusing on guys who will play finals at this stage. Next year for him.

I can see where you're coming from I just think that the fact that in Scott's mind Mooney is a real possibility to play finals, and Simpson isn't, rules it out. But nothing against your idea, it's a really good one.

The other thing is though West can play well back they'll want to test him as much as possible against Jolly + Brown/Wood and if he does well, he's probably sewn up a spot for that first final.

I'm thinking it's more likely that what neither of us are suggesting will happen, and they'll just replace Hawkins with Mooney.

No they won't have, one focus this week and only one, how to get Mooney back in to the side.
And you know how you do that, in Moons out West, go get smashed in the ruck young Tom.

Why would they do that?

Hawkins is an awful ruck, and not that the result matters, but the last thing a responsible coach will do is overload Ottens, with his injury history, a week before finals.

If they want to get Mooney back in they'll just name Hawkins as "soreness" tomorrow like they did a couple of weeks ago, and then not pick him next week.

I reckon they will name all of Ottens, West, Hawkins, Mooney, Pods.
It will be interesting to see what the Pies do with Wood.

Judging from the coaches presser today West will play and get plenty of time in the ruck.

The coach was a bit cagey about Moons. The subtext for mine is they're still tossing up whether to play him on Friday but he's still their preferred option for CHF in the Qualifying final. If I were in the Hawks camp I'd be pleased with that. Force Moons to be on his bike all day pushing up and back and adopt the see-ball-punch-ball at each contest with the likes of Gibson running off him when the pill hits the ground.

Duncan will play is the other thing I took from the presser.

Oh! And how neat would it be to know who the 30 players are who could be in our best 22.;)

The fall of the ball will be of extreme importance,Chapman, has been down as a crumbing forward, Varcoe needs to bring more pressure.S.J just has to do the first thing that comes to mind.Menzel could add some x factor.
