Has Cricket 2004 been released yet for the PS2?

Ive seen a review in which they actually said it was good! apparantly there is a new confidence meter as well as a settled metre (ie batsman have to get their 'eye in'). all the state teams and all that but let's hope it actually plays decently.

Is it in stores yet?
I was in Video Games Heaven yesterday and one of the guys there told me they had the game in store, however they couldn't sell it until it's release date, 12th December. I have the game on order so am just waiting for a call and I'll be down after work to pick it up. :)

Whilst we're on the subject of new games, today I saw EB staff stocking their (PC) shelves with latest installment of the Championship Manager series - Championship Manager 03/04. It's priced at $89.95.

Didn't purchase, for obvious reasons.

I've got the game and it's a decent update on CM4, I'd never pay $90 for it though!

How is it?
The game is great, you can create your own players, play County and ING/Pura Cup games as well as play International games. I'm still trying to work out the best shots to play for each delivery, but so far so good. :)

So mate how does it compare with the 2002 version?I remember you saying before that you had a go at it & the batting was the same, is that still the case or is it different as you say you're trying to work out the best shots to play.

Overall is it much better than before or not?

Also does your purhcase of this game mean that me & GOALden Hawk have lost you from the competitive world of Tiger Woods golf.;)

It's good, but hard.

For example... last night I was playing Victoria vs. Surrey. One-day match, 10 overs a side.

I held Surrey for a while, but then, towards the end, it didn't matter who or how I bolwed, I was tonked. Very frustrating.
Also, I had Ramprakash caught on the boundary. The fielder throws the ball up in celebration, it goes over the rope and is counted as a four. Not a wicket.
Grrr.

The sheer number of player is impressive. Aus A, South Africa A, all the state teams, all the county teams, various chairman's XIs... there's a huge number of teams.

Practice facility is appreciated, but Jim maxwell's hints are bloody annoying after a while. Also, the sound is fuzzy - it's been mixed badly. And the commentary is dubious as ever.

Good fun, though.

One thing which has definitely improved is the bowling side of things, having batsman caught behind the wicket and also being able to move the ball off the pitch. I'm still learning how to bat properly though, playing on normal level because easy is much too easy... like playing Tiger Woods 2004 with gridlines on the green. ;)

With regards to batting, the controls are the same as Cricket 2002, however it's a little more difficult. There's the player confidence metre which you need to build up before taking too many risks, (like a batsman getting his eye in) and the timing of shots is more important in this game. I can play front foot shots fairly well but the defence and back foot shots still need some work.

The inclusion of County teams, State teams and 2nd XI teams also adds to the game, and the ability to draft players into teams and create your own players adds value to the game, and increases the playing time as you can play a career mode style game. :)

Not at all.

I usually read alot of reviews before buying a game, due to the cost. Can someone tell me why 2004 is better than 2002??

It sounds like the extra teams and players is really good. Can you draft anyone into the Aussie side for example??

Are the wicket celebrations different than 2002, they were crap!!

I remember playing test series on 2002 and they would play two or three test matches at the same ground, it would never change.

I have a PS2 and a PC so am wondering which one I should but it for. With the PC you can obviously get patches, PS2 you cant. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

So tell me about this world league people...

Is it like the one in rugby 2004 where you take them through numerous years, or is it just one year?

Also, when you go to a world cup or world tour playing with say Australia, can you choose your squad from all Australian players, or is there a preset squad you choose from?

Also, the confidence meter... how realistic does it make batting. I mean how long does it take to get your "eye in" and if you play bad shots does it go back down?

I just hope the batting is not too easy or becomes to easy like in basically every cricket game available.
