Has finally Scott Thompson finally matured. Last year i remember, alot of fans got really annoyed with Thompson giving away silly free kicks all the time. This year, he has played 3 great games for the club. Is playing through the midifled and is becoming an important player in our team. Has he finally matured from what he was last year?

Definetely taking his game to another level.

Why do the umpires hate him though?

Balls falls to him out of the ruck, tackled instantly by Burgoyne...bam...holding the ball, goal to Port Adelaide. WTF.

Don't think he's matured, that's not what has influenced his game .......I do think he has peaked as a player in terms of skill development .... but I do agree he's in better form now than this time last year and probably playing at a level on a par with his first year at the club.

He did say that having his kid has put footy into perspective. He needs to work on getting onto his right boot a little more though. Too often he swings onto the left and turns the ball over, yet his right boot is just brilliant.

Finally!

They really really do hate him. The holding the ball decision where Tredders slung him by the neck and then sat on his head was further evidence. He must back chat the umpires constantly or something.

I thought he was our best midfielder yesterday, with close competition from Reilly, which is very very encouraging news. Those two have been very good for us so far this season - even in our loss to Essendon.

I think thats a good observation on yesterdays game. Hope it continues, he'd be a far better player for it.

I don't think he's there yet.

He finds the footy and gets the hard ball, which is good. But he still lacks awareness (particularly of opponents around him) and holds onto the footy for too long - often getting caught and coughing it up.

This was particularly evident against the Bulldogs, and in a number of occasions against Port.

As far as getting pinged by the umps often, he is sometimes hard done by, but the fact that more often then not the guy has more than enough time to get rid of it before being caught he sometimes brings it on himself.

He has done some good things, but still has a long way to go. JUST KICK THE THING THOMMO!

Good player who's as tough as tunsten, adding that hard edge to the mid-field now that Roo is fading from that spot.

Sometimes tries to do too much, but that is far better than a player that does too little.

Thomo is very important to our structure, as he plays tall for his size up forward as well.

Getting him for draft pick #12 was an absolute steal. :thumbsu:

Best thing about his game yesterday was how he was able to break away from packs at full speed multiple times. One particular occassion on the wing after a throw-in has really stuck in my mind. It wasn't the sort of play we're all that used to seeing from our midfielders these days.

Yeah he -looked- explosively quick. This is what I mean about there not actually being that many genuinely quick players going around, there are just a lot that read the play and get to the ball at pace. Ben Cousins for example, he was actually criticized as a youngster for lacking leg speed. Yet everyone is under the impression he's one of the speedsters of the league.

If we'd said last week that Goodwin and Edwards would be well held you'd think we'd struggle. Thompson and Reilly picked up the slack in the midfield. Great sign that both had good games when we really needed them to.

Hopefully their form will develop to the point where teams have to decide which player(s) out of Goodwin, Edwards, Thompson and Reilly they have to tag. Not there yet though.

Fatherhood will do that to you.

But how good was it when he ripped through the packs from the throw ins what 2-3 times with the ball and just bolted off by himself

Almost Judd like :D
