get a passable coach with poor leadership and set up a training routine such as playmaking defending or scoring. Which ever you choose get some trainees ages under 20, they should have atleast inad skill leavel in the primary skill that you are training. if you go with defending or playmaking get 10 trainees, forwards 6, wingers 8. Um i think thats the basics for the moment, sell what you can though.

I've gone with defending, what does the rest of that sentence refer to?

My team is shithouse. I'm thinking of using the transfer market to upgrade my team, there seems to be some players available at $2000 with their TSI of more than 1000 which is a major improvment so I might invest there.

Also, do I get a youth acadamy? or wait until I have a sound financial base before getting a youth team? Some bloke has already challenged me for a friendly, my boys are baying for blood. ;)

My ecoonomy says I'm staying afloat through temporary funds but I assume I will get money as I play games so if anyone is up for a friendly next week, I'd be happy to oblige, I need the moola.

EDIT: just checked who I'm playing in the friendly, we aren't baying for blood anymore, we're running and hiding.

I'm a defence trainer. It's probably the least glamorous method of training but I enjoy it.

The results in your friendlies (and even your league games early on) are irrelevant at this stage so don't worry about the scores. As long as you get a training method set up you'll be fine. The reason why we're putting such a big emphasis on training is that it's where you make your money. You buy a passable defender at 17, sell him at magnificent at 21, and you make a $1.5 million profit. That's just an example by the way. The money you make varies significantly.

Firstly buy a passable coach with poor leadership. That should only set you back around $150,000. You'll now need to buy 10 defence trainees. These are 17-19 year old kids that you buy on the transfer market. Aim for at least inadequate 17 year old defenders, 18 year old passable defenders and 19 year old solids. If you can afford to go for defenders with reasonable passing as well that's even better but if not don't worry. It's very hard starting out so just be prepared to lose a lot of your games. As a defence trainer you are committing yourself to playing 5 defenders in both your friendly and league game. Training happens on Friday. If you play a 5-3-2 in your league game and a 5-4-1 in your friendly, all 10 defender trainees will receive training. If you've got any decent experienced defenders already in your squad, sell them. The defensive slots are now exclusively for your kids. And any players who's main skill is worse than inadequate, fire them.

I wouldn't bother with the youth academy at this stage. You'll probably find it hard enough buying a coach and 10 trainees.

Hopefully that's not too much information to start with. Good luck.

Okay, I've done some double checking and if I get a new coach I'll go into the red which I would have thought to be very very bad, so I'll have to stick with the current coach who prefers attack, this, I assume, would mean I change my tactics to playmaking? So once I get the funds I'll grab a good coach and start from scratch.

I'm in league VII.79 which sounds pretty weak but the blokes around me seem to be streets ahead (I've inherited the last team on the table). Division VIII ho!

Firstly, an attacking coach just means you get a slight increase in your attacking ratings and a commensurate drop in defensive ratings whenever you take the field.

Secondly, do you mean playmaking training or 'play creatively' tactics?

You can train anything you like regardless of your head coaches leaning and the tactics you choose depend on the skills and abilities of your individual players.

won 5-0 today and have cemented atleast 2nd. I've got my best forward in decent form scoring 9 goals in the last 3 games 4 in the last.

If i finish 2nd (which im planning on doing) how much money should i recieve for it? I'm in div V so if anyone knows it would be quite helpful as i plan to spend as much as i can on upgrading my stadium as it only sits 12770 and sells out every game.

You'll get $180,000 for finishing second in Divsion V.

In my opinion one of the problems with hattrick is that you aren't rewarded enough for finishing in the top 4 places. For example I'm currently in 6th place in my Division V and with games against the 1st and 8th placed teams to come I'll more than likely finish in 6th. That means I'll get a home qualifier in my 32,000 seat stadium where I'll keep two-thirds of the income and ultimately make far more money than had I finished in 2nd place.

Agree with sainter. I've heard stories of people in higher divisions throwing games so they get a qualifier to get extra $$$. Teams that finish in the 2nd-4th and rewarded enough for finishing as high as they do.

Anyway, i had without a doubt my finest win i think since i started playing. A good ol' counter attack win away from home. Snuck a 1-0 win and that should see me finish 2nd.

Lost 1-0 away to the team ranked 6th which is no disgrace.

I've brought in 4 trainees so far all of whom are promising 17/18 year old defenders after I managed to bring in a good defensive coach. They all played on the weekend with one of them getting best on.

1. 17 yo/ passable passing and inadequate defending for $4,000

2. 17 yo/ poor passing and inadequate defending for $2,000

3. 18 yo/ poor passing and passable defending (inadequate at both winger and set pieces) for $6,000

4. 18 yo/ weak passing and passable defending (inadequate stamina) for $10,000

So these types of players I'm targetting? Should I be prepared to fork out $20,000+?

I'll need to change formation too, how would I manage that?

hougie,

the first defender on your list there will look good when is about 20/21 with that passing. :thumbsu:

How much money does it say you have in your economy? I was under the impression new teams get 500k in the bank/? After the 160k or so comes out for the new coach you should have a healthy amount to play with.

There are a few different types of players you can target for your defense training. (Although its very difficult when you first start out to get a hold of certain players, cause of how much they cost) but the market should be a bit cheaper at the moment cause players will age in about 3 or 4 weeks. So maybe something like solid winger + passable defense? which would make a nice wing back, then theres solid playmaking + passable defense which would make a good offensive central defender (which boosts the midfield rating a little i think?) and passing is good for counter attacking.

But be aware, i trained defense when i first started hattrick and it was a little rough going early on as you don't get much midfield or attack which is the biggest part to wining games.

Training defense to maximise your training you'll have to play the formations 5-4-1 and 5-3-2. To get 5-4-1, in the drop down box underneath where one of your strikers should go select 'set as extra central defender'. and to get 5-3-2 select 'set as extra central defender' in the drop down box under where one of your midfielders or wingers go. And on the line up screen there should be a box up the top right hand corner which shows what formation you currently have your lineup set to.

Hope this helps. :D

Okay, I've found where the drop down box should be and apparently I have to wait a couple of games for it to unlock.

$100,000 approx left in the kitty. I've got through to challenge 13, so I'm not too sure how much money I can get through the remaining challenges.

I'm looking for a keeper at the minute due to my best at the moment having a rating of poor. I tend to buy a whole lot of Isreali's, my entire imports so far have been also Isrealis with the exception of a Turk. And by the way if someone has a few spare dollars flying round their club put a bid in for Dominick Bacon (165018726), 28 yo with great potential to be useless. :D

If anyone out there wants a friendly next week, I'm happy to oblige, I need someone to fill out my stadium and put some bucks back in the bank.

Just a side note, I had 68% of possession on Sunday, dominated my first game away and with a side without a point this entire season.

...Remind you of a particular footy team? *sigh*

ill play you next week. my team id is 77725 so after the friendly this week ill play you.

well there goes that 1.3mil for my arena upgrade at the end of the season. Ill wait till about 3 or 4 rounds in when i have about 1.6 mil so i can uprgrade it to around 19,000-20,000. which will allow me to get those better players since my defence is crap with it being full of 3 solid defenders.

won 2-0 away, promotion awaits.

had a look at either of the leagues I will go into (v.73 / v.202) - would love to go into v.73, but is looking like v.202

I think that if I get my tactics spot on I could finish 5th or 6th next season, although I will be punching above my weight each week.

does anyone have any good tips for reducing debt? i'm a newbie and am already 300G in the red.i know the obvious solution is to sell players, but i was wondering if there are any better alternatives?

are you making much of a profit when you play your home games?

I basically just played my way out of debt but i got promoted in my second season since i was in a bot league so i got the money for that which helped alot.

I finished 2nd overall but lost this week 4-3. I'm going to save up for a stadium so wont buy any players yet as my midfield has been dominating in every game so i dont find the need to upgrade my defenders yet.

I've also promoted into Div V and have been luckily promoted into one of the easiest V leagues so should be able to stay up. I have 1 mil to spend on a midfield so I'm looking at buying 2-3 good midfielders.

1 more season of training defenders and then they will reach magnificent and I will train strikers.

How are everyones youth academy prospects coming along?

I have a just turned 16 year old striker who is getting 7.5 stars in inadequate form, hence my decision to change to strikers in future.

- Cut back your staff levels -

Ideally have 1 goalkeeping coach, 5 assistant coaches, 0 doctors (if no injuries to your squad) 0 economists, 1 spokesperson and 0/1 sports psychologists. I can't remember how many physios is the norm for a new team but it's definitely worth having a few because they help to prevent injuries. Otherwise you'll have to invest in doctors anyway.

- Don't invest in the youth academy

- If you've chosen your training type sell all of the experienced players who play in that position. You should only play 17-20 year olds that you've bought in those positions.

- Play all of your friendlies at home (or away in Oceania) with cup rules. You'll make more money if you can attract a more experienced team to your stadium but most importantly don't play overseas because it will cost you $12,000 every time.

Just to stick with it and things will change. Most of us have struggled with debt issues. Personally I can't stop myself from spending money when I have it so I'm constantly in debt. As a new team just accept that you're going to lose matches and it's best to get your training program set up. Once you see your trainees improving and sell them for a profit you can strengthen the other areas of your team. Also by that stage you'll have seen an increase in your supporter base and the revenue you receive from home matches will be far higher than it is now.

lucky bastard :p

youth academy is going well, winning the youth league, but it is pretty easy.

have a 7 star keeper, 2 pretty good IM's, pulled 2 17 yo players with decent wing skills the last 3 weeks, playing them as wing-backs hoping to get some defending skill as well.

training PM & individual

I finished 6th which I would have been rapt with at the start of the season but it was disappointing in the end. Didn't seem to have any luck in the last part of the season but 6 wins and a draw in one of the strongest Div V leagues is a reasonable start. My qualifier is against a bot so will hopefully get through that without too many worries.

My youth league is going well. I'm training defence like I do with my senior squad so results for my academy are not a concern. My best player is a 7 star defender who just turned 17 and should be eligible to be promoted early next season. I also have a 5 star 15 year old defender. It will be interesting to see how the star ratings translate into real ratings when they are promoted. The scout report for my 7 star defender said they he should graduate to the main squad with solid defending should he be trained for a season so maybe you are looking at 7-8 stars for a solid trained player.

my youth squad is going well, got a 6 star defender who only turn 16 2 weeks ago and 2 5star defenders who are only turn 16 this week. also got a 5 star winger.

So are you guys training two primary skills or 1 primary skill and stamina/passing?

Yeah it will certainly be interesting to see how the youth academy stars convert in the senior squad.

Just a question about everyones senior squad training. What have you been training and for how long? I've been training defending for 3 seasons and my 4th will be my last as I turn over to strikers.

What age did you stop training your trainees before selling them? And if so what level were they as I am wondering what level I should get my defenders before I will get maximum profit (Over 1 million for each player).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've trained defenders since I started playing hattrick back in December 2005. For my youth academy I train defenders with through passing as the secondary.

I was advised to sell my trainees after their first pop after their 21st birthday. World class seems to be the furthest you can train your trainees whilst still making a reasonable profit. Once they hit supernatural the wages start to kick in and make them less attractive to potential buyers. I have a world class 21 year old who I'm going to continue to train until his next pop so I'll be able to test that theory.

Some players will just continue to train their trainees because they don't think there is enough money to be made on the transfer market.

im training defence and wingers so getting some decent wingbacks hopefully.

My Divine keeper made my club bankrupt a few weeks ago, I tried to sell him and couldn't believe how little money I would have made. I'd fallen behind in my training so I decided to just go into bankruptcy and start again.

Anyways, I got put into Div V.207 with 2 games to go and of course lost both of them. I now have a qualifying match against a bot team in Div VI which leaves me with a puzzle.

Should I win the qualifying and start the Div V challenge, or should I try and throw it so I at least have 1 season in Div VI to get my fans, players & cash up before trying to challenge in Div V. The VI league is full of bots so it'll be boring but probably better for the long term.

What do you guys think I should do?

I got demoted to a bot league when i first joined, it got me out of debt and allowed me to build my fan base and sponsors and had all my players playing in some great form which they seem to how some how managed to keep for the next 2 seasons.
