There you go again. With your general prattle.

Show me evidence of umpires initiating contact in a confrontational manner. Even allowing for your diversion, show me evidence of them tapping players on the rear 'all the time'.

To be kind, you really don't have any appreciation of the bigger picture. Fortunately those who matter, such as our coach, do.

I think it will get thrown out.

It's clean from the photos and vision that when the contact happens Hawkins arm is being pushed by a GWS player.

Talk about a storm in a tea cup.
I hope you’re right but I’m not seeing that. This angle is the most damning IMO.

Then Christian should have been sacked/stood down for a period not reprimanded?see my earlier post 64.
I think he was reprimanded for that verbal abuse, ypo. And he is fortunate to hold his position. I guess "Hock" having just appointed him was in a difficult position. It's the sort of behaviour I've been mentioning. If allowed to spread it causes all sorts of problems. And it's remarkably common. What made it worse was it was a junior game.

What do you want do..go back to having the Capts adjudicate?. We have kids out there umpiring in the suburbs.. and thats the thing that is main issue for mine. Teach the umpires to stay out of harms way... and reinforce care from the players. Hawkins did not chaise the umpire ... neither did Greg Williams. Some punishment is inevitable.

That's you second inane contribution SC. Thought you were better than that.
I don’t care about the umpires I really honestly don’t if they were more competent at the higher levels I would care.

Grass root unpires I have more concern for, but these overpaid part time paid AFL unpires are far too precious and protected and they can touch the players and stir them up with their overzealous berating ...but a slight touch will result in a week or two suspension

It’s a farce and I got n pity for any of those unpires.

He slightly touched his hand ffs. The umpire was never in danger at any point and it was never Hawkins' intention to inflict damage. We're becoming a little precious and it's a society wide problem too.

If we're going to suspend players for a brush of the hand then I'm concerned at where this game is headed. A push or a shove fair enough, but not something so insignificant it wouldn't have hurt a church mouse.

Gee I hope that the umpire can make a quick enough recovery from such a devastating impact that he can continue his overpaid part time career

Poor precious thing

8 weeks is the latest whisper. He lost part of his nail and can't apply any nail polish to the affected area.

Danger.. id hope not. No contact at all is acceptable.. and never has been.

and really how many dumb things does Hawk have to do. Playing v Davis does seem to incite him.

A bit of common sense ... and then we're back to my previous point. No contact by umpires to players either.

So then, we string Gregson up and stone him too?

I heard he needed surgery , such was the soft brush of the hand from Hawkins immense strength that he shattered his entire hand.

Life time ban I’ve heard...Hawkins will also have to continue paying the umpire ongoing counselling session for being so intermedated from Hawkins weak act of brushing his hand.

My solution, fine Hawkins and use the money to re-educate the dick head ump to keeping out of the players space.I'd love to know what the training and recommendations are regarding this aspect of umpiring.
And tell them that they are umpires not mediators. There was no need for that umpire to be in the space with his arm out. he has a whistle blow and call free kick, play on or ball up. That simple.

The medical report is going to be so daminibg , stress and nightmares from the intimidation of running towards a player that has hit an opposition player and is expecting retaliation from his teammates

Smart move by the idiot running straight up to him when he’s surrounded by GWS players.

No doubt he’ll be suspended as it’ll be classed as “intimidation”.

I agree with that as well..which I have previous posted..they should do all they can to stay away from players especially ones emotionally charged up..as Tom was. I would also say that the umpire failed to stay as clear as he should ..

And all this fluff about how hard it was, how precious we've become, etc.. doesn't matter. The offence is 'intentionally making contact with, or striking, an Umpire'. That's why he's been sent to the tribunal, and winning the argument that it was careless and not intentional is the only way he's not going to be rubbed out. The players know the rules.
If it's found to be intentional, the severity of the contact will only decide whether it's one or more weeks.
My bet is one week and move on.

So then how about Gregson?
