Fremantle vs Hawthorn
HAW.gif

Fremantle have recorded their first win of the season over the Hawks, with a 19.22 (136) to 19.15 (129), seven-point win. Chris Tarrant bagged five goals in a best on ground display, dominant from the first bounce, infront of a home crowd.

Grant Birchall and Sam Mitchell were fantastic for the Hawks, with Birchall generating alot of drive from half-back, while Mitchell was dominant in the centre of the ground. It came down to All-Australian ruckman, Robert Campbell, and his masterful display in the ruck, smashing 38 hitouts to Warnock's 18.

Luke Hodge may not have found the ball as much, but kicked four goals, while Jarryd Roughead also booted four. Lance Franklin was clever, but managed three goals from eight shots. Andrew McCanslish also booted three goals from half-forward on debut.

Sam Mitchell, who was reported for charging and likely to miss the next fortnight on the sidelines, was terrific, with 33 disposals, while Grant Birchall continued his dominate form off half-back with 26 touches and 11 marks.

Lance Franklin was a deadly target, but once more failed to convert, kicking 3.4. Jarryd Roughead also provided great work at half-forward, with 7 marks and a couple goals. Jordan Lewis also booted three goals when forward.

Round 4, 2009, Aurora Stadium

HAW.gif
Hawthorn vs Adelaide
ADE.gif

Lance Franklin and Jordan Lewis have lead a last quarter assault on the Crows at Aurora Stadium, running out 35-point winners despite being behind by more than four goals at the final break. The wind was useful, but an 11-goal to one final term gave the Hawks the 23.8 (146) to 16.15 (111) result they were looking for.

Franklin kicked seven goals, where four were kicked in the final term when needed, while Jordan Lewis had 12 touches and kicked a couple of goals in the last half hour. Lewis and Luke Hodge accumulated 32 disposals, while Chane Bateman was extraordinary, having 21 touches and kicking 3 goals (including the sealer) in less than an hour on the ground.

Dale Thomas also booted three goals, despite only 6 touches to 3-quarter time. Fellow ex-Pie Harry O'Brien suffered a corky before half time but ran it out for fifteen minutes, but proved a major one at that, expecting a week off. Clinton Young is also expecting a month out of the game, with a striking charge. Young got a five-week ban last season for elbowing.

Round 5, 2009, Gabba

Brisbane Lions vs Hawthorn

An attacking game and fiery battles saw the Gabba lift with the Lions claiming their third win of the season, defeating the Hawks by 37-points. 40 goals were kicked, with the 22.23 (155) to 18.10 (118) scoreline giving the home side the victory.

It was the rebounds that saw the difference. The Lions attacked consistently from their rebounds, while pressure mounted on the Hawks defence, which resulted in momentum and scoreboard pressure from the Lions.

Luke Hodge, was once again terrific, with 32 touches, while Jarryd Roughead and Lance Franklin booted four and five goals respectively, but the nine goals between them wasn't enough.

Jordan Lewis injured himself in the third-quarter, pulling a hamstring, on his way to back-to-back 30-plus disposal games. He had 25 touches and kicked 2 goals. Dale Thomas and Shaun Burgoyne also starred.

Round 6, 2009, MCG

Hawthorn vs Richmond

Lance Franklin has bulldozed his way through Richmond at the MCG tonight, starring in the Hawks 25.8 (158) to 14.26 (110) victory. Buddy kicked a standard 5 goals, but his amazing 27 kicks, 4 handballs and 10 marks were amazingly impressive. Outscored in the final term, the Hawks were up by 75-points, and had the match covered from quarter-time.

Mitch Thorp kicked four goals in his time on the ground, showing he is worthy of a spot before others, while Andrew McCanslish, also limited game time, booted three goals and had 15 touches in less than an hours game time.

Sam Mitchell stepped back into the side, having 27 touches, while in-form Luke Hodge had 23 touches. Dale Thomas and Shane Crawford were also both valuable. Jarryd Roughead also dominated, booting 3 goals and having plenty of the Sherrin.

Awesome game story so far mate, the Hawks should be tough to beat this year with some great pick ups in Thomas and Burgoyne.

Got to ask though, WTF happened to Richmond this year, from near premiers to nothing, fairly realistic though I mean made prelim 95 then nothing until 01 where we made the prelim then nothing til 08 according to your game lol

and no mention of Trent Cotchin... is he in the game?

great work hope it continues, I must get TAR now

Paper-work, Hawthorn Signings
The NAB AFL Draft saw Hawthorn go in with two picks. No.10 overall, their initial first-round pick, and No.17, the pick received in a deal with Brent Guerra.
With not great talent in the draft pool, the Hawks believe they did well. They chose key forward Xavier Scolyer, who has very good skills and endurance, which may be handy with Lance Franklin inside 50, and is 194cm with a bit of muscle. Their second round pick saw them snap up potential top-10 pick, midfielder Andrew McCanslish, who slipped to the back of the pack. Super quick, and very good at stoppages, the Hawks were extremely suprised he was still around. Both players are from Peel Thunder in the Colts.
In the Pre-Season draft, Hawthorn managed to sign up brilliant, silky smooth midfielder, Shaun Burgoyne, after negotiations fell over at Port Adelaide. Burgoyne played 14 games in 2008 for an average of 20 disposals, and at 25 years old, he still has plenty left in the tank. He has accumulated 143 games and kicked 153 goals in his stint at the Power. Danny Meyer, an ex-Richmond forward, was also picked up. Has the potential to be great, but struggled to develop over time, he was a 1st round draft pick in 2004. He played 19 games for 23 goals in 2008, to take his career tally to 36 games and 30 goals for the Tigers.
Thomas Murphy was also redrafted, after being delisted by the Hawks two months back.

Shaun Burgoyne, wow!.
Life imitating TAR.
Good get Gyroscope.

Also, BUMP!
