Roos get: Polec, Pittard, Pick 48

Power get: Pick 11, 2019 4th round

So what would that mean for a Wingard deal?
We give Port our pick 15 and a future 4th rounder.

As a sweetener we give them a Clarko signed photo of our 3 Peat cups. :)

If that is not enough to get us over the line, then nothing will.

I agree we seem to be heading down the rebuild on the run route, although it can change tact quickly if we see fit.

We will have to disagree on what Chad is worth, please don't take that as me not rating him.

Ask yourself this "If you think Chad is worth 2 first rounders and a Mill a season and is a true A Grader"

Why is Port shopping him around?
You just don't shop around genuine A graders if you already have them.

It must be a salary cap issue or maybe just maybe they don't rate Chad as highly as some do, after all they have seen a hell of a lot more of Chad than we have.

I'm amazed they are shopping him around to be honest. I've watched alot of Wingard over the years and he is an extremely rare talent and at 25 is really heading into his prime in the next few years. Hopefully its not anything only Port knows about that means he's some sort of risk in his attitude or application. But assuming not, and its just a case of them wanting to maximise value because they think he is leaving next year anyway as a free agent, I would back the Hawks going all out now to get him in. To me he would be a bigger pick up than Lynch.

Still a long way to go anyway and I wont hold out too much hope til something more definitive comes out...

Chad must nominate us as The Dogs have the better pick to offer Port and the Power are desperate to get further up the draft to get either Lukosis or Rankin.
If it’s a bidding war we wont win.

Nominate Chad, nominate. #getChad

This outlines the shitty position we’re in

As I said don't take me not wanting the club to fork out 2 first rounders and close to a Mill a season as not rating him.

My read on it is that Chad wants to stay at Port but they are not willing to pay the dollars he is after, or the length of contract he is after.

My question is, Why?

And if it turned out those players arent all PRIORITY targets ?

We cant acquire everyone - we do need to land one though with some younger developing type with upside (Scrimshaw etc). Not because of cementing our place as a destination club but because that is going to help us win our next piece of silverware.

We tend to pay too high a price in recent trade periods and accept too little for outgoing players. Hope that doesn't happen again this year.
More than Shiel, Wingard would suit our requirements. A 30-40 goals player who can pinch hit in centre bounces. Tyson would be fantastic as well as we could do with a extractor type albeit slow player.
I'd put faith in Worpel over Tyson.

I think Tyson is a poor mans Tom, and thats not a slight on Tyson, he'll find a place on a list that will give him more game time but at Melbourne, he's down the pecking order due to so many similar types.
He'd be in the same position with us too so he's a pass.

Wingard would look great as you've said and give us another option through the HFF into Centre square rotations.

For those who know, is it possible that we could offer Chad a deal where a pay upgrade is triggered based on performance milestones?

For example he comes to us on a 4 year deal at 800k p/a, but if he kicks 40+ goals or places in b&f then it's upgraded to 1mil p/a? Is this kind of thing done?

It does look from afar like a falling out over money, so I can then only assume that Port don't want to fork up because doing so would put them in salary cap pressure either now or in the coming years.

If its just money that's making him available then now though that's why I think the Hawks should be jumping at it and stumping up the cash. Marquee players like Wingard don't come on the market very much if at all, except I suppose in recent years via free agency. Its a huge opportunity for us if he is available now at a time when we just happen to have enough room in our cap to come in and pinch him. Would be better of course if we could get him in a year via free agency but then we risk him going somewhere else this year if he is truly going to leave anyway.

Speak for yourself re the weatherman. If I am in a pair of Margaret Courts because Jane told me it would be Sunny and it turns out to be colder than a Mother in laws kiss then I am spewing.

The bold bit is the difference.

Jane is telling you what it will, should, or would be.

I'm talking about the part where they tell you "it's currently 17 degrees and the wind is 3 km/h from the south east"

The people in the know, you included, can only tell us what the situation is currently, not what will be, and people are chewing their heads off for the situation changing.

Port despise us or at least they did, hopefully that has simmered somewhat. We are also more of a direct competitor than the dogs (to them at least) so there are numerous difficulties.

I think our other big target is May - he will be harder to get again. Our BIG targets are not in line with our draft selections making things awfully difficult for our LM team. Bit of a head scratcher.

I'm preparing for some developing types & we will go to the draft with a few 30+ picks.

Out of interest where do the Trade Talk articles come from on our site, I can't find them on the AFL site. If they are generated by Hawthorn it's interesting how bullish they have been quoting external reports that Chad will likely nominate us today and including Chad as the main pic for todays article. I can't recall us being that specific for any other A-grade targets this year. Probably reading too much into it.

Why not both?

Easily can fit both into our team given Burton will most likely move up the ground
Finlayson could be another swingman to develop under Clarko too. Played as a junior up forward but developed at GWS down back. They seem significantly different players so would be worth getting both.
Will see Doc and Miles gone for sure if we go down this path.

This may be a bit left field and he doesn’t Fit our age bracket so I’m not all for it but is Nat Fyfe ungetable?

With Neale on the way out, they could decide to go to the draft with the pick instead of chasing hogan.

We would absolutely have to give up 2 first rounders ++ and perhaps higher ones than we have but for a rebuilding team cashing in now may make sense.
We are not a destination club.
