Hawthorn
Was sitting in the vicinity of the Hawthorn interchange at the game today. Being a pretty quiet game, I took time to soak up all the sights' n sounds and finer details that take place on the Hawthorn interchange bench during a game.

Just want to raise a toast to the legendary trainer on the Hawthorn interchange who you always see escorting the players along the boundary while they catch their breath, and provides them with fluids and towels. I believe he also normally bears the stretcher in the event of a player going down. Elderly fellow, who just loves encapsulates everything that I love about this great club. Please excuse my ignorance for not knowing his name and background... can somebody here enlighten me on this? You'll often see him walking alongside David Hale when he goes on his long walks along the boundary. What I love most are his words of encouragement to the players as he walks them up-and-down the interchange area. You can tell that the younger players (Savage, Smith) really appreciate his presence and view him as a father figure. Awesome bloke! Just the sort of calming influence that can be crucial during the big games. Can only really value these finer things during the quiet games when you can get up close and personal. Keep up the great work!

No, not him, but kudos to him also.

When I used to sit around M10 this trainer would sit in the vacinity. Got really animated one day against North in 07 from memory, stood up and faced the crowd and told us to give the team support. Didn't help unfortunately.

If you watch this video and skip to 6:29-6:35, you can see him. He was one of the first on the scene to congratulate Buddy after he kicked his 13th on the siren against North earlier this season. What a legend! Such an awesome guy to have at the club.

Yep, the bloke who runs out after Buddy kicked No. 13 is indeed named Graham. He is the principal of the school that my daughters go to and he is a great bloke and long time servant of HFC. He's always up for a chat about the hawks when I see him out in the school grounds at pickup/drop off.

Met him a bit

Acts as a trainer for box hill also
Top bloke, bleeds brown & gold (at a box hill game yrs back, he cracked it at an opposition supporter who called it yellow) and would die for our club

Ripping post guys, great to see some the lesser lights at the club getting a bit of a mention, it kinda reminds you of the local footy club, with the people that have been down there for a hundred years that tape your ankles or give rub downs, run water, help carry the stretcher, fill up water bottles etc. just like these people, the HFC happens to be their local footy club, I bet the players appreciate having them around :thumbsu:

Awesome! Cheers for enlightening me on his name and background. If they had a Brownlow medal for the support staff, Graham would win it.
I took my girlfriend to the Gold Coast game on Sunday arvo in a bid to convince her to barrack for the mighty Hawks (she has been sitting on the fence for a while). When she saw Graham escorting Smithy and Savage along the interchange area, whispering his words of wisdom and support, she got quite emotional at how moving it was (i'll admit that i did too). She now has a Hawthorn scarf and beanie, and is Hawthorn for life. Graham was also getting the kids and parents involved across the boundary fence when he could... pointing out some of the things that take place behind the scenes (only really possible during a quiet family oriented Sunday twilight game). Just a legendary bloke who radiates Hawthorn character and charm. I will now be sitting around the Hawthorn interchange area whenever I can for the genuine Hawthorn experience, and for the calming vibe that Graham provides.

His name is Graeme Renshaw. He was my Phys Ed teacher at Ivanhoe Grammer School in the 1980s-90s. Been around VFL/AFL footy clubs for decades. FittestFittest bloke i know for his age. Ran 10k every single lunchtime no matter what..rain, hail, shine, sleet, 40 degrees etc. Was Collingwood runner in the 80's too. Hasn't changed a bit apart for his grey hair. Absolute legend, eats lives breathes footy & anything sport for that matter. Hats off to him. Couldn't speak highly enough of him.
