I don't know about anyone else but I am really nervous about this game. Vandenburg, Williams and Bateman will be back... Crawford just returned a week or two ago, Croad is OK and then there is Hodge, Everitt and Mitchell who always towel us up in the midfield. We also have Franklin now to worry about. Hawthorn, except for last week, have been very competitve and we aren't suited to playing them.

Not to mention we will be missing Hase, Headland, Longmuir, Carr, Grover, Thornton and now Drum.

I just want this game to be over and done with and then go for broke against Adelaide, StK and WC.

Kenny, they were 4 and 1 after round 5. They are now 5 and 12. They are sh1t. Do not be nervous, we will win comfortably. I know they have reasonable record against us but we can taste the finals,we have too much to play for

Even though we are missing so many first choice players the rest are going to go for it 'cause they know they are playing for a spot in the team in the finals. Hawthorn have troubled us recently but I think we will turn that around this week.

THE BOYS WILL DO IT

Was in Melbourne for the Carlton game, the boys didnt play well, missed key players and still spanked the Blues.

We will do the Hawks, they are tired and nothing to play for.

Hayden on Mark Williams?

It's interesting isn't it. But putting Hayden at FB is a bit of a brain shift in terms of how we structure up. Parker seems like a possibility, but I imagine that has been tried before, and as we have lost consistently to them, unsuccessfully. But Parker is in pretty good form.

Dont worry abt the match ups at either end so much as the midfield. This is where the game will be won and lost. Pressure their midfield, force the errors and run for space and the battle is half won.

Definite danger game this one.

The likes of Hodge and Mitchell always rip us to shreds, they never seem to have a tag.

Agreed, Hawthorn match up on us very well and seem to have the wood on us even when the rest of the competition make them look very average. A host of good players coming back for them will make them a different side. We cannot afford any complacency.

i wonder if they will do the super flood again?i agree clearances will be interesting and sandy will have it tough if hes on his own.after last years loss they should be motivation enough not to take it for granted.

these are shiraz grapes

they make great wine.

So after drinking some of the juice of the grape my considered prediction for the game is we will take the Hawkes apart.

Now those who are thinking STFU. I agree :p

Super flood?
When did we use a Super flood?

I can't remember a super flood, I remember our mid-fielders running your guy's off your feet from go to woe last year at Subi.....54pts I think?

With Everitt out, we just have the following players to worry about:

Hodge
Mitchell
Crawford
Bateman
Vandenburg
Franklin
Williams

That's assuming Williams, Vandenburg and Bateman come back in. Clearances are going to be hard to win.

What about matchups? I think Duffield and Longmuir will be brought in for Cook and Drum.

If Crawford plays forward...

McPharlin on Croad... Obvious matchup
Parker on Williams
Hayden on Crawford... I'm not sure if Hayden should play on Williams or Crawf
Johnson on Franklin... who else can play on him?
Duffield on Brown... Duff can run off when possible
Mundy on Dixon/Barker... Mundy to run off also.

Dodd on Hodge
M. Carr on Vandenburg
Crowley on Bateman

Actually, I think Carr might get Crawford, because Crawford will probably play a bit more up the ground (half forward/midfield), leaving Hayden to play on someone like Brown, which frees up someone like Mundy.

Kenny, why do we need to worry about Vandenburg/Bateman? Surely somebody must pay close attention to Mitchell at the stoppages, easier said than done I guess.

Williams is someone we can't really match up on, problem is upfield and stopping clean delivery.

I look at the teams on paper and can't fathom how we could lose this, but thats what I thought the last few times Hawthorn has ripped us a new one.

I get the feeling that Clarkson will try to get Brown on Mundy to 'rough him up' a little. Aside from the obvious, Mundy and Murphy will be the danger men.

M.Carr on Hodge
Dodd to play in the backline.
Hayden to play on Williams. Williams doesn't chase very hard. It'll give Hayden plenty of space to create rebound from halfback.

Mundy to play on Franklin.

You're guys played out of their skin and we had a heap of injuries. Our better players we way off the boil. and like last year we carp before the break and burning it up after it. Last year, I think we had the second best record after the break excpept for the Bullies, and maybe the Crows. This year look similar.

Even so I'm not confident. Hodge and Mitchell are No's 1 and 2 in the comp for clearances. I think the midfield matchups favour your guys. Its at the ends you guys are getting murdered. Where we are able to hold our ends up :D
