Im just curious on all the WCE supporters throughs on the trade of Haynes. In my eyes, he was a on and off player, he had his days and other days he looked like he was part of the OzKick side. Though if i relate to this he was mroe of a off player.
So overall i believe it was a good trade for us as he wants a valuable player what so ever and it cause a hole in our side.

Thoughts?

2004 IS OUR YEAR- GO EAGLES

I think Woosha said it best when interviewed on 6PR last night after the trade... he had told Haynes that due to the Eagles wanting to blood some of our young talls next year in the forward line Haynes would be struggling to get a game next year.

Basically we got pick #20 for a player we no longer were going to use anyway. Bit of a win/win!

Didn't rate him but still sad to see him go. Thought he still was a good option as 3rd person in the forward line but I guess it is rather crowded with Matera, Sampi + new full forward (McDougall?) being the new likely setup.

(waits for Frodo's post on this thread with great interest)

I'm not overjoyed with this trade, and I suppose I worry that it was just a deal for the sake of it like Adkins/Williams last year. Having the extra pick is good news, though,I suppose, and I can live without Haynes.

I am pretty happy with this trade. Haynes was given more than a fair go to show what he's made of, and frankly he just didn't cut it. He had some moments of inspiration, but they were too few and far between. Good luck to him at Geelong.

Why did WCE make him an offer of a two year deal if he wasn't going to get a game? Naaa...he wanted to go and if Woosha said that then it's a sour grape remark not worthy of him.

I rate Haynes highly and Cats fans will be rapt.

Still, life goes on...it's not as if we lost Cuz, Gardy, Fletch, Kerr, Judd or Embley. And talking of Embers, look back twelve months and see how many on this board wanted him delisted !!!!!!!

because the 2 year deal the Eagles offered Haynes was well below what he expected..... which is why Woosha laid it down on the table and told him he wasn't going to be a first 18 player next year.

Yep, what Woosha was basically saying was that he wasn't in his plans for next year and that he would probably spend alot of time in the WAFL and so would be paid accordingly ie it would be in his [Haynes] best interest to go to a club that would give him a game.

Read that Haynes rejected the Eagles offer.

Fair enough. He needs to make decisions that are going to further his career. All the best at Geelong. We get pick #20 and hopefully a decent AFL player out of it.

Regardless of the draft I am convinced you can get a decent player at pick 20.

I think that Haynes would have filled the third foward spot rather well behind McDougall and Jako, but honestly, I think Staker could do his job equally as well next year, and then after that, well we all rate him pretty highly.

With Haynes what I always go back to is, do you think he'd ever make the difference between us winning or losing the premiership? Is our forward line any worse without him?

not IMO, i'll take pick 20 anyday if he couldn't agree to terms to stay.

Would Eagles fans be happy with this setup

HFF: Daniel Chick CHF:Jako/Mcdougall HFF:Sampi

FP: Phillip Matera FF:Jako/Mcdougall/Q.Lynch FP: Staker/resting midfielder

Jako at FF doesnt work

Gaspar at CHF for mine is still the best option, of course as always with Gaspar you have to add the disclaimer "if/when fit"

Also think Rowan Jones plays some of his best footy leading off the HFF

Sad to see Haynes go, but feel this could be a win/win situation with the club. Haynes unfortunately has never really shown his full potential at the Eagles, and a return to country Geelong could help him develop into the player he'd like to become.

I'm a big rap for Dave Haynes, but this could be beneficial to both player and club.

He'll get more of an opportunity to make a name for himself at Geelong, while having pick 20 and 26 should enable us to get 2 fairly decent footballers.

It is getting quite ridiculous. The guy should change his name by deed poll to Travis 'if he stays fit' Gaspar. :)

Personally, I think the best possie for him is chb, not because he he wouldn't do a very good job at up forward (his kicking is a bit of a worry though), but because he's one of the few up and coming big men we have who is quick enough to be an all purpose CHB. I guess I can see us stacking the forward line with any tall target who can take a grab, like Lynch or Seaby or whatever, to go with the quicker, more agile McDougall.

McIntosh started his career as a forward and moved back. I would like to see Travis 'if he stays fit' Gaspar given a crack at Full Back. Like you say he is quick but he also has a good footy brain.

It was also interesting to see how quickly the name David Haynes was removed from the West Coast website.

Especially when Damian Adkins has been with the West Coast for a year and the players section still has Drew's profile as being the first one you see. :D
