Was more about getting rid of Marty for good than straight out revenge. She could of banged any old random for that, but chose Rust because she knew it was something that Marty could never forgive.
Its both, but Rust was the ultimate killing of the marriage, Marty would have gone berserk with who ever. With a stray he'd just be crazy, with Rust its an unmovable unchangeable nightmare.

Yes, that kind of weird hollow in her neck is a bit icky for mine. Like the entrance to a Stoat's burrow or something.

She could wear a scarf.

Would a closet psycho and child killer be reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reviving_Ophelia for the black humour?

I'm more interested in the story they tell next season, the bar has been set high in all departments, but matching the quality of story is going to be much more difficult than finding quality actors to fill the roles in it.

Hope it's not set in the South again though, I like the idea of it moving around.

That thing freaks me out a little.

I think it will be dependant on where they set the next season (as to who they choose). If its a setting like 'The Killing' then the range of actors available would be much broader IMO. If its still going to be set in a southern poverty like area then I reckon it'll be much harder because you've got to fill Woody and Mcconaughey.

I reckon some people would see Torv as too network tv-yyy. But if you watch all of Fringe, then I agree with you that she has the ability. She was also one of the few female leads I enjoyed watching.

EDIT: I hope they don't go with Robin Wright.
Yeah, was thinking the same. If they go down south again I wouldn't mind Josh Brolin ala No Country.

All factors need to be nailed though to top or equal what we are seeing now.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was total shit.

I reckon it'd be hard to top since this season has been pretty much perfect, I'd accept something pretty close (80-90% depending on what's lacking).

I reckon there are so many options with the cast they should be able to get that right (and with how successful this season has been, they would be a good chance of getting whoever they wanted), production standard they should be able to maintain too, it's all about how they write it. Things like the timeline and the new murder cropping up, Cohle's philosophical ideas and how they sit alongside certain elements of this case, etc. Those can't really be replicated, so it's about what they replace them with. I imagine there's plenty of scope for them to work with though.

Nic Pizzollato coming back on for the 2nd season is the biggest thing. The writing has been the biggest highlight amongst many in this show.

Didn't someone say that Cary Funkunaga won't be coming back for the 2nd season? That's a pretty big deal. His style and the way he used film added hugely to the feel of the show. Hopefully the new director (and i hope they just use the one director again) can capture something similar in a new location.

I have hopes that it can reach this height again, but agree with Fyfie_ that even if it managed to get to 80%, it'd still be great television.

The song doesn't have the same impact live. Such an obscure but cool intro choice though.

Yeah, great track and good band too. Cool folk those two.

What about the mower man from a few episodes ago.

They only get to talk to him briefly. He doesn't really provide them with anything and is a fairly nondescript in his personality/demeanour.

Cohle also says it takes him 2 minutes to tell if someone is guilty. I just reviewed the scene and they spoke for 50-55 seconds. Then Hart beeps and they have to go immediately.

The entire time he is talking to Cohle he is at a precarious angle and you can only seen one side of his face. When Hart beeps he turns for a split second before the shot returns to Cohle and you can make out a scar/facial burns on the other side. Further to this if he wasn't sitting on the mower I reckon he would be pretty tall.

This picture I found on images is also interesting.

I'm of the impression this link is very likely.

For one reason, I'm not sure if anybody has worked this out but the lawnmower man is the same guy that played George Remus in the first couple of seasons of Boardwalk Empire. He's quite heavily made up but is an actor that would be quite well known to keen HBO viewers.

He's also listed in the cast in the last two episodes on IMDB.

On casting for series 2, I'm not sure where I saw it mentioned but the change of storyline each season may have another link to American Horror Story in that Michelle Monaghan may come back for Series 2 which may make sense with the link to the female detectives.

I've also heard that it may be a male/female partnership which probably makes a lot more sense.

I can see Charlize Theron being spectacular in this sort of show.

I knew I'd get done on that :(

Me and pants have been having a beer riffing on the next season.

The names Bill Murray, Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey have come up, whether good or bad...
