wow that was a good long action scene, but with 3 main characters they couldnt even try and do the one long shot like in season 1. And they killed everyone. poor W Earl Brown copping the headshot.

Now they are even more f**ked up.

The more screen time he gets the more Vince Vaughn was the wrong choice for the roll.

Things escalating nicely in that episode. :thumbsu: Media will be all over the shootout, which is exactly what those in Vinci didn't want.

Disappointing that literally every other cop basically became a redshirt though.

The shoot out seemed pretty realistic with most shots with the handguns missing, especially at longer range. Edge of the seat stuff.

I'm assuming that they were well and truly set up, press just happened to be there too.

Shit hit the fan big time.

No doubt that Dixon cop was involved in setting them up. He was involved in id'ing the suspect and scoped out the scene. I don't think he was supposed to cop the head shot though!!

The question is who was he working for?

Also, the poisoned lands are important obviously. If they are buying poisoned lands where the train line is going and the govt is underwriting "over runs" then who stands to profit? I'm guessing that there's a lot of money in cleaning the land up?

Oh yeah, is Franks land on poisoned soil too? His avocado trees are dying.

He was Rays partner. In episode 1 they were looking through Caspers house before he was found dead.
I understand that which would most likely mean that he is doing shit directly for the mayor's office behind Ray's back, but that may be a little too obvious. He was tailing Kitch's character in the last episode.

Or maybe Ray does know what he was up to? hmmm......

It was still an average episode with 10 good minutes. The case is just dragging along, they need some sort of breakthrough or clue to spice it up. Seems like alot of nothing plot threads at the moment too, maybe im being impatient and they will all tie in together but im genuinely struggling to keep track of all the little bits that are happening and which ones matter.

I disagree tbh, he has some pretty pretentious dialogue that can be a bit cheesy but I think the more his life is slipping out of control it becomes apparent why he was cast, his physical presence has been great at times in the last couple of episodes IMO. I think he seemed so out of place in the show initially because his character is so out of place in this world, as he keeps slipping back into his criminal life I think we're going to see him get much better.

I thought he could pull it off, then he had the thing about the rats in the basement and his eyebrows wouldnt stop moving like he was trying to make faces or something. He can do drama but i dont feel he was right for the job. He has the look for the roll.

They were set up by the mayor & his cronies with help from Dixon

The photograph featuring Ani's father, the mayor and the creepy psychiatrist + two unknowns is this season's King in Yellow reveal imo, the dude in the middle with the obscured face is the one who "lives among you, well disguised". Some weird shit definitely went down at that combine

I liked how Paul looked more comfortable during & after the shoot out than at any other time, worst self as best self

Won't the botched raid and resulting shootout bring more heat from the state investigation? Why would the mayor want that? Unless maybe he really, really didn't want them to talk to the gangster and was willing to do anything to avoid it.

Yeah I noticed that too, he was the only one not totally freaked out after it.

Nah I would say it's good for the mayor, the police turned a simple raid into a 30+ body massacre which makes them look terrible. The main suspect in the murder case is dead so the investigation will be considered "closed" (not for our True Detectives tho). The mayor giving them an ominous warning last ep "be careful out there" as they leave the office, Dixon "why dont we just wait for them to come out", the dude firing his AK out the window before the police engaged, its almost too obvious that it was the mayor & friends with help from Dixon

as soon as the mayor said "be safe" or something like that as all the cops left for the raid i figured he was setting them up.

Reckon the mayor is involved with the killings. Could be more Red Herrings like the first season, but interestingly has a weird crow painting on his wall...

The real let down was that it just felt disappointing and sooooo vanilla that at the end of it all only our 3 main characters were left alive.

It feels like a commercial TV procedural with a bit more violence at the moment.

But Farrell and McAdams are great so I'll be seeing this one through and hoping the plot line lifts to their level.

I like how people praise the 'slow burn' and think that's what puts this series above the rest, yet they cite the shootouts in S1 and S2 as the best scenes.

I actually don't mind Vince Vaughn in this. He pulls of the intimidation parts really well. The writing is still downright shocking though. The part where he said he'd never had a cavity and the other part where he was talking warp drive or some other garbage had me laughing out loud.
