And I don't mean just out of the team, he must be traded off.
We won't get much for him, but we must cut our losses and move on.

Yeh gotta agree, not good enough player at this level and definitely doesnt deserve the number 1 draft pick from "98". I dunno anyone who would want him though, cause he can play everywhere on the ground well, but doesnt really have one place where he can make an impact.

He belongs on the Halfback line. That is where he played his best footy for Brisbane, and I think the CC should chuck him there, just like what Craig did to Mcleod.

Hey
Its easy to look good when your playing in a team of stars - Brisbane

I think you maybe right with the mcleod option. At least he can create some play from back there and push through the midfield

Yes he didn't fire a shot but there were a few other out there who did likewise.

He fired one shot. He went in hard, made a tackle, followed up and kicked a goal.

Funny what happens when you go in hard and do the one percenters. Should have that 10 seconds of play on continuous rerun and make Headland watch it all day.

i some what disagree!

if we drop him who do we have in our midfield with height?! this is the main reason we miss matt carr. get rid of headland and its a bunch of short people....

Amend his contract by all means.
He is such a talent that I just couldnt bare to trade him, as I realise that he will perform in other sides.
Yes he finds it hard to get the ball himself, but as our midfield develops and learns to play together his value will come to the surface.
An outstanding wide reciever that in my opinion still has a place in the side.

If you want to drop players, get rid of medhurst, he doesnt want to be there anyway.

If I was as disposed as our buddy scham to wild allegorical statements I'd say Headland's problem is he is is in team of duds who don't know how to use him.

Last Sunday, with two minutes to go and a goal the difference, young Schammer is streaming down the field with the forward line wide open. One bounce, two bounces. And you look at the top of the screen you can see Dessie Headland has anticipated all of this, and taken off leaving two Adelaide defenders in his wake, and gets ten metres clear dead in front and 30m out. And our little flim-flam-Scham doesn't see him and even forgets to bounce the ball.

And remember Dessie was free in the Sainters match and if Medhurst had kicked it to him we might have won.

Why Connolly persists playing him deep in the forward line is beyond me esp. when he said himself that HBF was probably his best position. Get him behind the ball and let him run the lines, and deliver and he'll look like a million dollars.

Just hypothetically if Freo were to trade Headland for a draft pick, as supporters, what pick would it take to satisfy you? I think somewhere in the mid 1st round would be about what he's worth.

I'd want a player -- specifically Andrew Embley. The Eagles would turn Dessie into a superstar and we could get Embers and half way through the season be writing this same post about what a dud he turned out to be.

I'd want a tallish pacey midfielder.

Dream On!

Develop your own talent!

Embley for Headland .....<muses about this for a few seconds>...... Are you on drugs or something?

How about McDougall for McPharlin?

How surprising!!!!
The last two eagle posts have once again completely and utterly misinterpreted Ralph Dagg's post.

Please, oh please, oh please, do some work on your comprehension skills, then come back and talk. Until then, go back and talk amongst yourselves and those you actually do understand.

That would be a good point if he was actually playing in the midfield - but he's not, because he's not good enough.

Thats exactly what we thought we were getting when we traded for Headland! Didn't quite turn out to be that player did he?
No. But I wouldn't trade him unless we could get another tall midfielder.

DJ has been played out of position. He was recruited to be a receiver but we have tried to turn him into an in and under, backman, forward etc etc.

We have enough in and unders ie cookie, josh & haze(when fit). What we haven't go is the players cruising pass to give it to who can run fast and deliver it well.

That what he was doing @ lions in 2002. he needs to be allowed to do here.

You don't need a trade to get a player like that. They are growing on trees in just about every minor league. People who go in hard, and are committed to the ball and the team are what freo needs. Headland does none of those, and hence is not a required player.
