Heath Scotland

I know many of you have a soft spot for Heath and wish him well for the rest of his career so I thought I would share my thoughts about him.

I had the impression he was a honest toiler with good disposal but he showed a great deal of class at times against Freo. Found himself at the bottom of packs one minute and the next he times his run perfectly to support a teammate under pressure.

To opposition fans saying Carlton picked up nothing but duds apart from Nick Stevens, Scotland is already making them look stupid. Amazing that he couldn't secure a berth in the Pies midfield.

Ah well, thanks Pies, Scotland is a keeper. :)

We can thank the ******** Malthouse for that.

That ******** kept duds like Woewoful and LEon Davis and got rid of Scotland.

Idiot of thei highest order.

Even NEale Daniher got a team to a GF. Come back to me when he actually wins one for Collingwood.

Otherwise keep you idot remarks to yourself moron.

Good luck to Heath and good luck to the Blues. After the crap we have copped from Port supporters all summer, seeing Carlton out-perform the Power would be great.

I had trouble watching the match ups yesterday and it may be that Scotland was responsible for Hasleby who was very good. Defensively Heath may lack sometimes but with the ball, he is great. The whole Freo midfield racked up the stats though, guess that is just the way they play. Very high possession game plan.

You've hit the nail on the head. Heath is very good with the ball but is loose defensively. I think that is why Mick considered him to be outside the top group of midfielders at the club.

He should have been a keeper for us. Was good to see him get a few kicks and I hope he does well for the blues. He deserves a crack at playing full games every week. Unlike other recent departures from the club, I wish him every success.

Not many pies fans haven't been similarly amazed for 2 or 3 years. The consensus is the he lacks accountability. That is an argument that has always bothered me. If all 22 players focused heavily on accountability you would never win a single match. Some players have to use the ball and unless you can find space that isn't possible. From a Collingwood perspective he was probably expendable as another medium paced midfielder but IMO he is better than the likes of O’Bree, Woewodin, Lockyer and most of the young midfielders coming through now. I am sure I am not alone when I say we traded the wrong one.

Neal Daniher didn't and won't win a GF though. I don't always agree with MM and I certainly don't think he is above criticism but he isn't an idiot by a long stretch.

As for the Scotland deal, I don't think the jury can make a call until we see Hall after as much development as Heath has had. If Hall has 3/4 of Heaths ability we will be huge winners because Hall is big and medium paced midfielders are plentiful.

I watched the game yesterday and i actually thought he wasn't palying at his best, i have seen him play better games for the pies.
At times his disposal was a bit sloppy, and some of his kicks didn't go anywhere near the man.
That being said the guy has real class and i think will only get better than what he played yesterday for the blues.

Good luck to Scotland, he is one ex-pie i hope does really well at his new club.

I can't believe that people on here are still giving it to Woey. He was far from our worst last season and far from our worst on Friday. Saying we should have kept scotty and not picked up Woey is nonsensical. Woey is a class user of the ball and has the talent to impact on a game, Scotty was a trier and thats it. I think we should have kept him but leave woey alone because ther are far worse on our list. As for cracking the sads when people contridict your opinion, if you can't take part in a civil trading of opinions go and post your opinions on the wall of a urinal.

Scotland was always going to struggle to get a game and recognition at Collingwood because Malthouse had a set against him. He only played him under sufferance and because of the insistence of a member of the coaching staff who is way above the others when it comes to ability and football nous.

Terry Wallace summed up Woewoeful succinctly on Friday

"How can that guy have a hamstring injury at HIS pace"

As fast as curing concrete. And a heart the size of a pea if Mal Michael is coming the other way.

And I agree with you glovemangayfer, guess_who's comments were totally uncalled for.

Your telling me that we should have saked 'woefull'!!!!!!!

Listen yo yourself, are youtelling me that Mick Malthouse is not a good coach. seriously look at collingwoods list from 98 and 99, and look at it now, even now and last year he did a remarkable job to get the team were he did with that list...

And neither will MM without a whole state of players to choose from. The 'roids came in handy too. Malthouse is no better than Daniher.

Still got more posessions and did more with the ball than 6 other players combined. When talking useless, there is a lot other names to talk about before Woey's name comes up.

It was a necessary move.

Judkins got the Shaws, which immediately meant that there were two more non-speedster midfielders competing in the very near future for Scoots' spot and the nous of Judkins would have been wasted if he only had picks 17 and 60.

A good gamble which many in the know think has paid off, as Brent Hall sounds like he's what we will be desparate for in the next few years. 200cm key athletic AND footy smart key defenders don't come along often!

O'Bree could have been traded for a higher pick, although the result may have been the same anyway. I'm not writing OB off yet.

I wish Scoots well personally.

I sure do, he's a favourite of mine, along with Nick Davis and Paul Williams.

Stop being mature, intelligent and respectful, you're letting the Carlton archetype down ;)

He has both feet, adequate hands that don't fail under pressure, and a good brain to read the play. His quick thinking offsets his medium pace (he's not slow but he's not a flyer by any means). He also knows where the goals are. He is a fair competitor 1 on 1, and can defend a bit, but his desire to get into the play means he drifts off his man sometimes.

Hatred and envy make people say stupid things. Look at all the threads on the main board about us, your mob and the Bombers from sides with 1 flag, or none in the last 50 years. Its all water off a two-timing captain's back.

He is also not a very obedient player, going with his own instincts (which can win you a game) rather than Malthouse's intricate team rules (which can win you a flag).

He got a lot of talking too from Malthouse in huddles that I saw (not shouting, just extra coaching) even in games where he was getting touches and kicking important goals (eg Adelaide final in 2002).

I think Pagan's more direct "natural" style will suit Scotland and he will flourish. He is a footballer not an athlete, and Malthouse loves athletes who can obey a string of instructions and play all the soccer and basketball and gridiron parts of the game.

No doubt Scotland will stitch us up in an important game later (or sooner). I expect him to serve your club as a hard working if somewhat independent midfielder/forward for 100 games or more.

Maybe, but none of the others has a history of going missing in big games and is also on hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Melbourne knew what they were doing when they turfed this dud out.

sometimes i wish you could trade moronic supporters aswell.

heath was nothing more than a struggler, good skills, but couldnt find the pill, cant mark or handpass. runs in straight lines n cant tackle for ****. i wish people would start seeing this. its quite clear really. woey in his first year was quite good, you seem to over rate him greg, your the only one saying he is **** because he doesnt get over 20 touches every game. i expect 15 to 22, and he does that every game.
