Who isnt touching him next season?

I for one will be watching him closely, to see if he has learnt to shake the hard tag.

I dont think I will be taking him on from day dot.

However his price may be dirt cheap given his inconsistent form in 2008.

Has been a real headache this season.

yes i'm with you Biggy. I just think the routine will settle (low scoring) if sides win games when they are tagging him, and this stops his supply..which stops his points

I dont even know if he was tagged tonight. Just doesnt seem to get into the right places or get his own footy.

He was tagged by Harding then Macmahon, but had lost all confidence by the second tag. I'll probably still get him next year. Don't know why tho.

i think his price tag will be to tempting not to grab him at the start.

If he is as dudly as he has been in the second half of this year I'll just upgrade him.

He's averaging just under 92 for the season. I think that is similiar to what Newman averaged last year, which means he should be around $500k to start the year, that is if nothing changes (prices, Salary cap)

The fact is that the hands in the back rule and other changes have made the game more suited to forwards. It also doesn't help that teams are now tagging key HBFers like Shaw. As always the backmen to choose are those that really play more in the midfield or as a forward.

Shaw will probably be on the shortlist just because there aren't that many viable alternatives.

At the start of this season he was an obviously choice.
Started well. Ending badly
Depending on his price, I'll probably wait.

Heath Shaw can only plan one role ... loose man in defence.

Anytime he has to be accountable he struggles ... anytime he get's a tag he may as well head straight for the bench.

Not true at all. His ability to stop dangerous players is the best thing about him.. Its when clubs send down players like a Gibbs to play pure shut down role he struggles. When he plays on good players he does very well.

I've carried him for the entire year in Super Coach, and I don't think there's any point in shifting him now. He'll still have the odd massive game, but I really think opposition clubs have worked him out.

Actually, I think the entire league has reacted to teams playing quarterbacks on the HBF (eg. Gilbee, Shaw, McLeod) and worked out that playing a pure-defensive forward is worth it.

another dud performance with monfries getting the best of him.....seriously having doubts about him now.....just doesn't handle a tag at all.

Gilbee's adapted though, and has been good for me the last month and a bit, after a slow start.

Heater just cant have ANY pressure on him whatsoever, or he crumbles. Can anybody believe he still averages 91.6 SC points though this year?

I would trade him off but it isn't worth it, I'm just glad I got him in my team when he was cheap-ish, then he had a few good weeks and I thought I had got myself a good trade but not really.

I had Gilbee from the start, I'm glad he is still getting good scores and playing well.

Don't have many trades left so won't trade him but really wish I could. Sadly, will probably pick him again next year because of the high scores he can get.

Honestly, I hope he keeps getting "found out".

I hope forwards, like Monfries this weekend, kepe playing deep in the goal square to keep him accountable.

Cause if he starts next year at 400k, he'll be my first selected! :D

How come?

If he continues to keep getting tagged out of games he'll play just as poorly next year.

Blokes like Gilbee have adapted to being tagged. Unless Shaw is played somewhere else, then he'll continue to struggle.

If he keeps playing badly, the game plan will have to change.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Collingwoods "bad form" of late has coincided with Shaw's effects on games being minimised.

If Malthouse wants to keep Heath doing what he's doing, then he's going to need to teach him how to break a tag.

And there's no better time for that than the offseason.

I would have thought it's time for Mick Malthouse to start focussing on the positives re: Heath Shaw rather than always his negatives and weaknesses.

Yes Mick we know he can't break a tag - maybe instead of continually trying to humiliate him into learning this facet of the game, you might try coaching to Shaw strengths. Try something different, throw him in the middle or up forward even. Surely it is time to alter something that is clearly not working.

Might make for a nice change fantasy points wise.

Collingwood have a serious lack of top-end class in their midfield. It's been their problem all along (aside from Buckley), and why they can't get over the top and win the Premiership.

H Shaw is the guy who, when going, is fast, a long, strong and accurate kick. He's the guy they need using the ball, not Shane O'Bree or one of these other snail-slow ball-butchers.

Malthouse is being a pig-headed idiot continually allowing Shaw to get tagged out of the game. It's one of the things costing the Pies games. I'm fine with it, because it's Collingwood, but I can't believe he hasn't done anything about it yet.

Also, it would help my SuperCoach team. :p
