Hope you guys don't think this is in poor taste, but thought it might be interesting to compare their careers over time.

Both products of the academy. Heeney hit the scene in spectacular fashion. The following year mills was being talked up as the better prospect out of the two (bearing in mind both are guns).

So my thinking is, heeney has one year on mills, but mills is aparently a better prospect. So there would come a point where mills surpasses heeney as a better/more important player to the team.

Imo heeney has had a greater impact so far in his career, so edges him out. But will there come a time when mills announces himself to the footy world and surpasses heeney?

Thoughts? Is mills already the better player in your opinion?

Btw, if you guys think this thread is in poor taste im happy for it to be deleted. Just thought it would be interesting to keep an eye on them throughout their careers.

Tbh I always thought it seemed farfetched last year when people would proclaim that Mills was better, as Heeney was one of the most impressive first year players I had seen from any team. You also can't predict how people will handle the step up to AFL level.

Heeney has picked it up a bit quicker imo and already looks like a 100 plus game player. His skills have been on from day one.

I'm sure they're going to get sick of people comparing them all the time though. Extremely lucky to have them both.

Mills has been giving more responsibility and been thrown in the deep end IMO
Yeah I would agree with that too. Wouldn't mind seeing Jones come back in who is more a natural half back and push Mills further up.

Extremely small sample size, but I think Mills will become the more natural midfielder in the sense that he will be an accumulator, whereas Heeney will have more x-factor with his high-marking ability and potential to hit the scoreboard. Also think criticism on Mills has been way too harsh.

Obv at this stage Heeney is better. But they both have huge ceilings and its only a matter of time before they get there. Mills seems more like a smooth moving rolls royce where as Heeney is a bit of a spark player. Both will be guns for us soon

More looking forward to when they are full time on ballers

This ^^

Mills looks less fragile than Heeney.

That is not saying anything abut courage as they both go at it with 100% disregard for personal safety and not saying Heeney is soft but boy does he seem to get punished at the moment. Mills seems to able to avoid the knocks a fraction better - maybe just a function of the positions they play but we do know this - they will be guns and form a midfield with Parker/Mitchell like the cokers Judd/Cousins/Kerr model.

It will also give is the speed and spread we need ASAP

It just must be tempting for Longmire to keep playing Heeney in this role.

His new found love of forwards that are shorter than Cripps, ooops everyone is shorter than him, shorter than 200cm is becoming chronic you think.

Mills missed a year of footy last year, and still got straight into the best 22. He's made a few errors, but for a new draftee, who just missed a year of footy, he's been exceptional. By the time the bye rolls around, we'll have a better idea of his potential. Right now, we're just seeing glimpses.

and who is being played out of position.

If Heeney can replicate the same form as in the Adelaide game on a fairly regular basis, he stays in the forward line for mine. On his day he is unbeatable and gives us an X factor. Buddy and Heeney are building a great relationship in the F50. Would love to see Mills moved to the wing where he would have more freedom to take the game on and go for his marks without giving away goals. The forwards would certainly appreciate his bullet like passes hitting them lace out on the chest (even though one was intercepted by the Crows for a goal).

Only one of them is sponsored by the board so is BF verified premium A grade quality.

Sure the other is on the radar for sponsorship next year when we get double the amount of participants who want in on the action.

Both are going to reach the dizzying heights of awesome, we know this. It's as clear as day, they have already both been sensational from my point of view. But for now, as a board, we are financially backing that Rolls Royce, CalMills.

Mills cops alot of flack on here. Ok hes made some skill errors but which first year player hasnt?

Last weeks game was finals intensity and pressure. When someone needed to put their body on the line and win a contest down back, who was it ? Mills. At least 3 times he jumpef back into a contests and took the saving mark. Hes done it at least 2-3 times every game this year.

Hes playing down back so he doesnt shine as much as heeney but he is more than doing his job. I for one could not be more impressed.

Awesome start to his career

Absolutely. He has been terrific overall particularly given his interrupted 2015, and that he is playing in defence. He looks composed. Has taken a few too many risks but he will learn fast.
Mills is a huge talent. Had a great game on the weekend overall. Just turned 19...

Heeney like wise has a perfect physique for the modern game with game sense and elite skills including contested marking. Composed. He is only 20 next week!

Both are going to be unbelievable footballers.
