I won't say he was back to his absolute best, but he did show glimpses last night of the player we had in 2000.

He made one blatant error by footy, but his disposal was generally pretty good. Hit Lloyd lace out twice, once on the left, once on the right.

He again proved a very hard man to tackle and gave us something at stoppages.

19 disposals, 5 tackles and a goal.

Obviously he has to back up and continue to play good footy, but I wasn't certain we'd see a game that good out of him. I now have the feeling we'll see better.

Very happy for Heff, I hope he can maintain it.

Seeing Heff play well (apart from that error, but we'll let that slip) was another reason I left last night with a big smile on my face, very happy for him. Even after just the first NAB Cup game against Brissy I had a feeling he could start to get back to his best, there is definately more room for improvement but he was very impressive last night, as for Peverill, he better keep training hard.

I thought Heff and Campo were duds and Lloydy was finished, hmmmmm

And Fletcher is past it and we have no good kids.

A lot of positives last night, consistency is our next hurdle. We must maintain our intensity.

I love how he does it so nonchalantly, as opposed to MJ, who might break as many tackles but looks like he's putting 100% effort into it. Very aesthetic.

Too right, that's exactly what I was thinking towards the end of the games last night.

Brisbane will be pumped for a better showing at home next week.

I was very happy, and I will continue to be very happy if he plays like that most weeks - he'll be very valuable. I certainly wasn't in the "we have to get Heff back" camp either.

very impressive start to the year. If he keeps going, and keeps putting himself on the line like he did he will be well worth the return.

good work heff, keep it up :thumbsu:

He will be very servicable over the next few years. Won't be a champion but adds good depth to the club. Hopefully he can continue to get 15+ possesions a game.

With one game he and Watson may have made Pev redundant.

I was thinking exactly that. Pev really had nothing to do on Saturday night. He played less than half the game. He had been a key player in our midfield over the last few years, but that's only to say that our midfield has been pretty ordinary. I really like Pev he's a very honest go-er but I think he's going to struggle to find a spot in the team this year as some new players and the young players seem to be ahead of him in the queue.

Pev SHOULD be player 20-28 on our list. He will be very handy if a few ob players go down or if a few players are fatigued. I also think he would be an awesome role model at Bendigo and you would hope that dempsey, jolley, lonergan, hocking and lucy would learn from his application and professionalism.

i felt at melbourne that heff had the skills etc. he just didn't get enough of the footy to make an impact... if he keeps getting 20 odd touches a game he'll be a good pickup for you blokes...

he's not the classiest or the best, but he's an option in the guts, you need a LOT of options to keep up these days

With Hird, Rioli, Cole and Dyson to come back in, Pev must be getting nervous. Any game he get's this year, he'll be earning it.

1 game in... His first few at melbourne were the same, then it was apparent why we'd ********ed him off.

'Future Captain'......

In his first three games at Melbourne he had 8, 9 and 12 disposals.

Interestingly enough they resembled what he did for us in his last 3 games. He did go through a patch of 10's and 15's. Which is good for him.

Future Captain...

Don't forget Johns and Dempsey, will definately get some runs at certain stages

Yes. Isn't it great to have these players as our resrves instead of Haynes, Alvey, Cupido etc. Injury's permitting, only those that are performing will get a game. And if that's Pev then good on him.

Who did we get with the draft pick that we got when we traded Heff to melb?

Either Cartledge or Walsh, can't remember off the top of me head, but we had two in a row.

We also gave away pick 17 in the deal.
