Now for the next question...any good tips on cheating for the test?

speaking of which....last week i was away for my maths test, so the next lesson my teacher said to do it in one of my free's the next day. so he left me unsupervised in the study room and once i was done i went to find him but couldn't anywhere, fortunately. handed it up 4 days later and it was accepted :D :o

exactly! ;) heheeh.

nah, i didn't do some of the questions still...cuz i know if i cheat it all, it will suck when it comes time for an exam. but still, it probably helped me pass

hes in yr11

i remember do`n that in methods

until i said bugger this and stopped it half way thorugh the year as if we wanted to do Methods, we have to do General Maths A which was 10 lessons of maths a week (50min lessons) and like for GMA, the teacher is bs... and gave us like 4 pages of homework a nite which was like 3 hrs of just 1 of the maths. Which then i found myself like a robot, from sleep to wake up, school, home, homework, to work.

i would have done fine if there wasnt 2 maths >:

sometimes they dont reliase that its too much

Ah.....11?

I was doing that sort of thing back in Gr.8. That'd make it a year 9 or maybe 10 problem in Tasmania.

Or are you saying he's 11 years old? That's probably closer!

I have to do a factorisation...

x²-5x+6

please help!!!

Ahh from memory, look at the number at then end. What you do with this number is find 2 numbers that when multiplied together result in 6 AND when added together result in 5.

With what i just said, what you have to realise is that a negative number multiplied with a positive number results in a negative number and vice versa. A positive multiplied with a positive results in a positive, and a negative multiplied with a negative makes a positive.

With the middle bit, remember that with situations where the two brackets have a '-' and '+', a (x-3)(x+2) is different from a (x+3)(x-2). The reason is that the first results in a x²-x-6, and the second results in a x²+x-6. The reason is that with the first equation, take note just of the numbers AND the preceeding symbol. A '-3' plus a '+2' makes '-1', hence the '-x'. With the second equation, '+3' plus '-2' makes '+1', hence the '+x'.

Therefore considering the previous two paragraphs, since there is a '-' and '+', the two symbols in the two brackets should be two of '-'.

At the end of the day to make sure of your answer, just write what you think it is, then multiply it to get rid of the brackets. If you get the same equation you are obviously right and if it's different then it's wrong.

Need anymore explanations? Just ask.

Study?

;)

You must have been tired. That's one of the most common ones I see in Methods. Even today I used it. ;) And yeah, you do cover it in Year 9/10, but you still have to revise it when doing factorisation in methods, for those that asked what year she was in.

As a simplification of what myee said, for this problem (where the co-efficient of x is one), used the null factor law - numbers which will multiply to give +6 (ie -3 and -2) and add up to -5. Or just get a program on your Graphics calculator called Factor7. Makes it all a hell of a lot quicker. ;)

I'm like Lefty(Saint4Life)... I dropped Methods at the end of last year. It was too damn hard, and now Further is **** easy!

Maths? I only got 33 for further in year 12. Hardly my strength.

Mind you I was top dog in grade 6. Something to do with questions that are either multiplied by 6 or divised by 6 I always seemed to get. Who says footy isn't good education?

Im so glad I didnt know how to do that. (YR9) cause if I was suppost to, id be history and history isnt one of my best subjects ;) :D

yr 11 maths methods - ahhh the memories!

got 100% for the factorisation test (1st one for the year) and never passed another one all year. Obviously MM wasn't my forte, which was bizarre since I had always got good marks in Maths. Nevertheless it has ruined my confidence and I doubt I'll ever be able to look at any equation, logarithm or any of that stuff again without having a mental breakdown.:(

good luck :p

Yeah, Methods tends to do that to you! I did great on the first two tests in Year 11, then the rest weren't so great. Not that they were bad, but by my standards, they were. I was always good at maths, but methods is just pure craziness. The only reason I'm doing it in Year 12 is because I need it. But why can't they do anything without freaking GRAPHS?!

I understand that, we studied it a few weeks ago. I am in year 9 too. ;)
