Help: PS3 or Xbox 360

But again, this is more than just removing a few USB ports, this is removing backwards compaitibility. Instead of not being able to hook up extra controllers, gamers will not be able to play their PS2 games.

The number one selling console is still the PS2. People still want to play PS2 games. At the moment they don't want to buy a PS3 because they think it has no good games. Removing the PS2 catelogue is just giving people another reason to not buy the PS3. Given where the PS3 is at sales-wise at the moment they cannot afford to have that happen.
I think the main reason people aren't buying PS3's is because the price is too high, so what does Sony do, bring out a cheaper console, you can simply not expect a console that is almost $300 less to have everything of the 60GB PS3 with no differences except that of 20GB less, if you were to bring out a newer and cheaper system of the PS3 then what may I ask would you take out of it?

The point of bringing out different systems varying in price is for extra or less features, for example the 360 have several different bundles in many varying prices and added on components.

There is also talk of a 160GB version of the PS3 with many new inclusions, this would be them:

* 160gb 2.5 SATA 5400rpm HDD
* CELL Broadband Engine (65nm process) @ 3.2ghz
* PPU x1, SPE x8
* RSX GPU (65nm process) @ 550mhz
* Blu-Ray Optical Disc Drive @ 2x
* Memory Card Reader- Memory Stick Duo, Compact Flash, Secure
* Digital
* 6x USB 2.0 ports
* 2x HDMI 1.3 ports
* 3x Gigabit ethernet ports
* DUALSHOCK 3 controller(New SIXAXIS controller with rumble)

Here is an article for all you people bitching about the non backwards compatibility on the new 40GB PS3, interesting reading.

Hard to deny its a bit of a weird move tho HBK. If the attitudes of folk on this thread, and the only 2 guys to comment on that blog entry are any indication.

How hard would it have been?

Given that the ps3 has bugger all decent games available, as others have said, the massive ps2 library can be nothing but a help to it.

Good to see they're bringing back the rumble pack tho. Was bloody stupid to bring out a controller without one in the first place.

Hey, I don't disagree that it might not help, it is just the fact of what can you take out of a system $300 cheaper with 20GB less, there needs to be more than just that.

The fact is just like written in that story, many people already have the PS2 and as said by Scorpio the PS2 is still the best selling system, so the majority of people going to buy a PS3 will either already have a PS2 or not want to play the PS2 games anymore, and since you will get less that 50 bucks for a trade in you are better off with the PS2.

The reason I bought a PS3 was because I was done with the PS2 games, they have reached their potential and I was very happy with that, not once have I regretted buying the PS3(Except missing out on Halo 3, which does sound awesome), and I have only bought the one PS2 game since getting my PS3 which was AFL 2007 only available for PS2, I have probably played a total of 2 PS2 games as well since getting my PS3, that being GTA: Vice City Stories and AFL, the game I own on the PS3 are NBA 2K7, Resistance, Warhawk and Virtua Tennis 3(Soon to be taken back, as there is no online mode), and I can say that I have lost countless hours playing all of those games with the exception of VT 3, Resistance has a great campaign mode and Online is brilliant with up to 40 players able to play in one game with absolutely no lag, also Warhawk is an extremely fun game which combines flying, driving and ground combat all into the one game, the best thing is that it is only a multiplayer game so you won't get bored playing campaign mode over and over again.

HBK619 I have no doubt that sales will increase substantially. The thing has basically had a $300 price cut. And considering it has got a Blu-Ray player that is a very good deal. I just think removing the PS2 compatibility is a stupid thing to do. It's a convenience thing.

Ok, the time has come...
in the red corner weighing in at $530 is the 20 gig HDD Xbox 360
In the blue corner weighing in at $699 is the 40 gig HDD PS3

Is 20 gig enough to save all the games I want??
Are the PS3 games about to start firing out now?
What would you do?
Help

20gig is heaps to save games. Save games take up bugger all space, when game updates are included, a couple of gig, at the very most. Most of your HDD space is taken up by game demo's/video's that you download from XBL. And once you play them you generally delete them pretty quickly. I've never been in a position where i've run out of space.

There's a few good looking games coming out on ps3, there's some good 360 games coming out too( to go with the multitude of good ones already out). Comes down to what games appeal to you most really. The games matter most with a console, look into what you like and buy the console to suit.

And also. if you want to play online wireless. you have to buy an adaptor. where as with the PS3 it's built in.

PS3 doesn't seem to have any hardware issues SO FAR (i know 360's problems have been adressed, but you could still get a console from an older batch)

If you want to upgrade your HDD. on the 360 you buy a microsoft HDD. on the ps3 you buy any 2.5" sata laptop HDD. Cheaper.

I personally wouldn't play games on wireless anyway, it just seems to cause that extra fraction of a second lag compared to ethernet.

As for getting an old 360 from a dodgy batch, i doubt it. They recalled the systems with the questionable components when the extended the warranty a while back. It'd have to be one that was right down the back of the shop covered in dust they forgot about.

What was faulty about the 360? Is everything fixed with it now? Im planning on getting a 360 in the next few weeks. NBA 2K8 is coming out and I need to play it.

Im choosing a 360 over the PS3 mainly because I had an original Xbox, and I prefer them to Sony. Im just more used to the controller. Cant wait for Mass Effect to come out too.

my cousin just recently purchased an XBOX360, so i lent him my 2 cordless controlls and they didnt work (wouldnt connect to his 360), does anyone know why this is?

Buying a PS3 40G in 2 weeks along with a 36" LCD HD TV.

Probably get 2 games to start....any recommendations?

I own a ps3, a 360 elite and a HDTV (so I'm playing them at their best) and can honestly say the PS3 is easily the superior machine, but the 360 has superior games available at the moment.

But PS3 has some absolutely awesome exclusives coming out, and most, if not all, 360 exclusives end up on PC as well.

PS3:

Gran Turismo 5
Final Fantasy 13
Tekken 6
Final Fantasy 13 Versus
Haze (previously mentioned in this thread that this game is coming out on 360, which actually isn't the case, Ubisoft announced they've stopped development on the 360 version)
Metal Gear Solid 4
LittleBigPlanet
Killzone2
White Knight Story

And Rockstar have announced an exclusive game for PS3 is in development based in LA in the 1950s, sounds interesting.

All look to be very, very impressive games.

The problem for the 360 is the fact it's not really a next-gen system, rather, a supercharged current-gen one. Every game they design has to run without any additional memory available (remember, there are millions of 360's out there with no HDD attached, so every game must be designed to work on discs of no more than 8gb, whereas PS3 designers have 50gb blu-ray's to work with.

Just for some comparison, have a look at the difference between in game shots of Forza 2, and Gran Turismo 5.

Forza:

Notice how the 360 can't seem to do smooth edges anywhere near as well as the PS3?

The 360 isn't without merit, however. Halo 3 online is some of the best fun you can have (single player sucked though), and Bioshock is ace and I'm expecting Mass Effect to rock too.

Price wise, well, you really do get what you pay for. I mean, even the Elite model 360 doesn't come wireless compatible, or have the ability to play hi-def discs and the online service, whilst superior (even though it doesn't' have a browser for some reason), still costs 10 dollars a month whereas the PS3's is free.

It all depends on what you're after - if you want a console that already has a handful of great games, and will provide a lot of fun playing FPS and driving games online for the next two or three years - then get a 360.

If you want a console that has a real variety of exclusive games coming out and has a ludicrous amount of power and the ability to play hi-def movies as standard, then get the PS3.

Here's some upcoming food for thought:

Haze:

Killzone2

Final Fantasy 13

My personal opinion is that within 6 months to a year, is that most people on this forum will have changed their preference to PS3.

You realise there is only 1 in game screen there ( which is Haze, looks average TBH )
And with Live costing 10 dollars a month, if that is what your paying, you got sucked in. I payed $50 for an xbox live starter kit which INCLUDED head set, 1200 microsoft points and 12 months live.

You do realise that only the 2 shooters are in game screens, right?

The GT5 screen is in game. Even the most die-hard 360 fan would have to admit Forza looks like crap next to it. Check out this video if you'd like to see more:

The Final Fantasy one is a cut scene.

But it's a cut scene that wouldn't be possible on a 360.

Here's an in game Final Fantasy one for you for comparison:

I have played GT5 before, that is not ingame.

For one it is obviously not ingame because the players is not controlling a car.

Considering GT5 doesn't come out until next year, I fail to see how you claim to have played it.

If you'd have played GT HD, then you'd know those graphics are indeed, in game.

For one, in replay mode you get the EXACT same graphic resolution as in game. In fact, you actually get LESS fps.

Gran Turismo games do not have cut scenes. They have replays. Same principle as Halo 3, it saves the exact data as a game file, then replays it allowing the user to change camera angles.

It's in game, matey.

Oops yeah meant GT HD. Played it earlier this year. And no, after playing that i dont see how those graphics are ingame.

Just like that video you gave me, there is no one driving a car. Its all CG. Feel free to prove me wrong and post a vid of someone actually playing
