ok :) I have been told that I need to have my tax done BY today.. if thats true what happens if I dont have it done by today coz I wont :)

im a little confused so does anyone actualy know?

Not sure why that would be the case - usually you have till end of Sept or longer if you are getting it done by a registered tax agent - and if you are getting a refund, the gov won't hassle you as it saves them paying out earlier.

Yeah thats what my mum told me... But My bf told me that he heard it on the radio.. then someone just rang me at work and asked me to fax theirs to the taxation office..... she said it needed to be done today so im sooo confused as to what is right ahhaha...

Mr X are you certain that today is the due date for BAS statements?

It's normally the 28th of the first month following the end of the qtr isn't it? Or am I thinking of something else?

Standard PAYG tax returns are due by October 31 each year.

I have traditionally done my tax somewhere around the 29th most years. Obviously can't get the last minute Uni assignment out of my blood...

Ring around and see if you can get your tax done by some agent.

Tell your boss that you have until 31st October.

They fine you, or at least they threaten to. Happened to me once, but the fine was never applied.

I used to write up my own tax return, but one year they sent it back and said use the Tax Pack, and this'll probably make you late now so you'll get a fine, too.

Nice folks, the ATO.

Taken from the ATO website:

-If you report goods and services tax (GST) monthly, your activity statement and any payment are due by the 21st of every month

-If you pay quarterly, your activity statement and any payment are due by 28 July 2003.

-If you want to vary your pay as you go (PAYG) instalment amount or rate, we must receive your request before 28 July 2003. By law we can’t process requests after that date.
