I like this kid. He's a big lad (198cm, 98kg) and can play down back, up forward or even in the ruck. Needs to bulk up a bit more though, especially in the body-on-body contests.

might be able to re-invent himself as a backline player, otherwise he will always be a fringe player. He has been given a lot of opportunity to prove himself at CHF and has never produced the goods consistantly.

Might be able to re-invent himself as a boot studder next year or as an example for the young guys on how not to kick and contest marks.

He actually did ok at CHF last year, then broke his jaw. This year he had a limited pre-season (OP?) and then did his shoulder in Round 1. That said, the team has now found its CHF in Mooney. Playfair isn't a bad back-up to have, whether in the backline or up forward.

That's why I said he will always be a fringe player, only get selected if there is an injury to someone else. Once Hawkins claims a permanent spot in the senior side, Playfairs usefulness will decrease even more. Sad for him. If he isn't delisted this year, I hope he gets traded next year so he can get another chance at another club.

i thought playfair was decent in 2005 but obviously 2006 went down the crapper. Whether it was due solely to injuries or a plain lack of talent will be revealed next year. His kicking is still hideous however... at least if he does play up forward next year I won't have to suffer him and Kingsley simultaneously.

I really wanna see him have a good crack in defence with the big boys. That way we could also check out the versatility that Egan could have as a forward.

Why would you want to try Egan up forward with all that he's shown as a CHB? I'd be leaving him there and building your defence around him.

I agree with that especially with harley being one of our older players so in a couple more years egan may need to be one of our key backmen rather that the 3rd tall.

Our tall forwards should come from ... Ottens, Mooney, Hawkins, N.Ablett
and depending on who is still around the backups would be playfair or gardiner and maybe grima.

His biggest problem is HE CANT KICK. Its improved slightly, but its not good enough for AFL standard and espcially in a team that good disposal is already a level of concern let alone having fringe players who cant kick.

If he could kick, then he would be in our best 5 players.

I think Egan's learning curve suggests it would be interesting to see what he's capable of doing. Remember Spencer was being groomed for that position, Egan was just a top-up.

Egan is already a key backman, Harley is the third tall now.

Suggesting that Egan should be moved forward to facilitate H playing at CHB is fanciful but I do think Bomber should be open to throwing Egan forward to pinch hit when we are struggling for target, it can't do any harm to at least try it for more than 5 minutes against sides we can cover defensively with just Scarlett and Harley.

i think bomber might try him in a similar role to ben holland at Melbourne. Playfair could be useful as an opponent for a resting ruckman and as the big body who acts as the ragdoll in front of Scarlett and the opposition fullforward

Are you kidding? He can't kick, and I can't remember once, ONCE, when he would have been amongst the three best on ground. I would be interested in how many votes he would get in the B&F if we didn't give out votes just for playing in the game (a ridiculous system). The fact is, Playfair will not take us to a flag, so we need to get serious and determine which players will take us to a premiership , and who won't. I can't see Henry Playfair playing any significant part in a premiership, so we need to let him go, and get ayoung player who can take us that step further. However, if we want to continue accepting mediocrity, we will keep him on our list.

We will probably keep him on our list anyway, considering that Thompson doesn't have the balls to get rid of anyone, let alone hopeless players who are lazy, and can't hit the side of a barn.

Agree it's a ridiculous system, and it's somebody's, but not ours.
