i guess some fans can't deal with the truth.
apologies for upsetting fans of this board - i won't bother posting true facts and statistics. its a shame for some as i'm one that attends vfl and some training sessions and have given reports in the past.

They where true but it was also a spin, you can not just pick out small samples and expect everyone to say wow otherwise you are saying that if Henry played against Geelong or Collingwood it was his fault we lost those games too.

As for the other crap boo hoo i am not going to give any more reports so take that.
get over yourself.

bringing up Hank's kicking efficiency stat is about as relevant as the win/loss stats in the OP.

I don't know how many times we need to establish that it can be a very misleading stat which often reflects no more than how adventurous a player is with his decision making - Hank himself understands he has sub standard skills, which is why he rarely even tries to hit up a bloke unless it's the easiest option available.....too bad if there's a marginally difficult kick required to completely open up a foray forward for us, because if there's a bloke 20m sideways to Hank that's what he'll aim at (whereas most afl players are good enough to at least attempt to nail a guy who's 50m away and on the move).

To point to stats and suggest Hank has decent skills is almost a little more than deceptive imo.

.

So the kick eff stats are so useless that Champion data get paid to produce them for TAC Cup, VFL, Champ games etc so that the recruiting staff from all clubs can use them as a tool

Of course you have to know where the player plays and often see the game to use the stats at their best but the simple fact is you can not get an effective kick if the ball is turned over !

If the stat was useless then Champion data would not be making a fortune out of producing it.
Stats are stats, any smart person uses them as a tool to in evaluating things along with vision. Anyone who wants to dismiss them is not taking all things into account.

You may want to say how often do we have to say they are misleading, i have to say to that have i ever posted just off stats or ever said reading the stats are the be all and end all ?

Slattery has been no worse than most who have played in the back half. As for the skill comment i dispute that all that many players can spot up targets 50 meters away from defense and hit them regularly. We only have on which is Fletcher and he is a champion.

We should trade for Travis Varcoe then.

With his win/loss record, we'd be winning Grand Finals in no time...

There would be no problem if it was a good statistical analysis.

It isn't.

Hey Buddy!! you didn't upset me - I had a really good laugh at your stats. :D

Yep. We've looked a different side with him in.

Yes he can at times lock down small forwards. He's not the best at it, but he can. On the flip side, he's a destructuring influence:

Can't hurt going the other way,
Is a very dumb footballer.
uncoordinated footballer gives away free kicks because of his uncoordiation.
Shocking decision making (confusing for team mates)
Slow
Poor kick
poor to average mark
2 - 3 touch player.

There's a minority of Bomber fans that love him. The rest of us and the vast majority of the footy world see him for what he is.... A very ordinary footballer.

this.

he's shit and I'm glad he's out.
Hope someone steps up and keeps him out.

Glad to see Hibberd is in still. Quality player.

You're both right. The stats do tell you something, but they don't tell you the whole picture.

Slattery is a reliable kick and usually that is after he has a taken a mark. Bein able to spot players up short is a good skill and it is one he does well.

Under pressure he is shocking and is a deer in headlights and this along with the zero run he provides is why so many are happy he is out.

I just hope some one does a goo job down back playing the lock down role.

Personally I don't mind Slattery, he fills a role and has a crack week in week out. I think there's a spot for a genuine small lockdown defender in our team. But guys like Hibberd/Hardingham (already ahead of slats clearly) could potentially take up the spots he would be occupying in defence. I think he will end up finding a role in our team however, not sure which position but i think theres a spot for a tight checking defensive player in our team (could even end up in the forward line). After guys like Mcveigh and Welsh retire, he will be able to fit in better with the overall balance of the team. Not a star, but most teams have role players which I reckon he can be.

Lindsay Thomas 4.1

are you saying slattery would have stopped him kicking those goals?

slattery never has been a good footballer, and never will.

i love hibberd in the side over slattery. if that is the choice, i choo choo choose hibberd every time.

hibberd will actually help a teammate too, and go back with the flight. have you ever seen slattery leave his man to help?

I can agree with the first paragraph, as Hibberd was really good today, but you're having a laugh with the second paragraph.

Aren't you?

Slattery is your typical foot soldier. Gives everything, selfless, courageous... but will never be more than average at best. You appreciate them for what they are, nothing more, nothing less.

i still can't get over that. i mean remember when he took a ****ing knee in the head from Fev?!? he leaves his man all the time to cover people having a run.

does he now?

i've seen him 'do a peverill' plenty of time. if it's a choice between putting pressure on the ball carrier, and his opponent maybe getting an easy ball, and allowing the ball carrier to run into goal unpressured, he'll choose the 2nd option all the time.

anyway. the love child slattery is an ordinary AFL footballer. VFL standard at best.

If Slatts is getting roasted, surely McVeigh doesn't escape scrutiny. The game has past him.

yep, he's done.

played a decent role earlier in the year, but is treading water now. some of his ball use was disgraceful, for someone who used to be a great kick to a lead

Doubt that you can say that Lindsay Thomas had his best game for the year.

Kicked 4-1 but on past form could have been 1-4.

And he got cheap goals by hanging out the back.

Has played better games in 2011.
