What's happened to Henry Slattery??

Is he injured??

I've been assured time and again by a few on here that he's "highly rated by the coaching staff", nods as good as a wink/i've got the inside word type of stuff......a point which was used to suggest "what would you know, they rate him highly so he must be decent" several times during any thread with his name involved.

I was also told in no uncertain terms that he was "CLEARLY our number 1 tagger" and that the coaching staff would play him in this role for 2010 and for me to get used to it.

Yet despite our list being plagued with injuries and desperate for mature bodies through the middle in particular, Henry Slattery is not currently rated highly enough by the coaching staff to be worthy of a game in any of the last 3 rounds (as selected, which includes tomorrow)....in fact i'm pretty sure they are not even rating him highly enough to name him as an emergency.

I am missing something, or after watching Henry up close for a little while and getting a good feel for what he can and can't do and what he brings to the table, have the coaching staff realised that not only is he not in our 22, but not even close enough to even make it as an emergency when we've got several players out??

Seems to me that now that they've had a good opportunity to see him up close and see how well he's able to do the jobs they give him, he's not as "highly rated" as some may have suggested....

He was injured/sore, which is why he was originally not in the side last week.

This week, I have no idea.

More importantly.. We lost the last two games without him. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HENRY SLATTERY EFFECT?!

He was dropped the week before and he played for Bendigo the last 2 weeks.....couldn't have been too badly injured.

And i've never subscribed that any one player can influence a big margin either way - not that i'm condoning the simplistic approach in the OP, but overall it's in the closer games that the good and bad players win you and lose you respectively - i suspect i credit the stats in the OP with about as much relevance as you do (as in very little).

Surely you're not suggesting we'd have won either game just by bringing in this bloke that the Essendon coaching staff don't rate in our best 30 odd players??!! :D

The apologists come out in force - Got it - player dropped - soreness - not listed in selection as a reason - Then plays for Bendigo.

Maybe it was part of selection rotation.

As Womb said he was injured which put him out of the side, since then looks like some of the younger kids like Hibbard and Hardingham have started to pass him. Doesn't justify your complete hatred.

I have no hatred whatsoever - in footy we all have many opinions, some things we kinda suspect, and others we firmly believe that we know to be true.

I firmly believe it to be true that Henry Slattery is not good enough to play afl footy and that he's often a liability at this level. It's an opinion i can truthfully say i hold objectively and without emotion....in fact i like the bloke and would love him to improve out of sight. I just feel sure it will never happen.

and Womb said he was injured last week (which i've never heard or seen anything of until now btw), but he was ALREADY out of the side. He was dropped the week before that and hasn't had a look in since, despite having 2 games for Bendigo....must've read 50 times on this site from people such as yourself that Henry's "the first one picked".

Once again I have no idea what angle yaco's coming from, but otherwise, as dona said, Hibberd's been a revelation in recent weeks, keeping Hank out.

Great problem to have.

But i've been told time and again that Hank is "highly rated", "our number one tagger" and "first picked" .....yet he's not even an emergency for 3 weeks in a row in a side desperate for mature bodies just because we bring in one decent back pocket?? ...doesn't quite add up tbh.

Was sore after the Fremantle game, but having played a shocker made it an easier decision.

Hasn't been picked since being fit for the Hawthorn round, and I can only assume he's genuinely not being picked this week.

Most players are sore after a game....we've rested a few players to freshen up for a week at different stages this year, yet i can't remember one occasion where we've rested them yet played them for Bendigo 2 weeks in a row??

I actually haven't been told why Hank's out, so I'm not saying it's necessarily the case, but Prismall played 3-4 weeks at Bendigo despite not being fit enough to be considered for senior selection, due to a minor hip issue. Playing at Bendigo doesn't necessarily mean a player is fit enough for AFL games.

Like I said though, I have no idea whether Hank is 100% fit or not.

Agree that Slats played a poor game against Freo - And mentioned in another thread - surprised that he was dropped - as I had been happy with his form - But once dropped he has played the last 2 weeks for Bendigo - You cant say that he missed because of soreness - or he wouldnt play for Bendigo !

We can only assume it is because of poor form - Can say that if he doesn't get back in the team in the next 3 or 4 weeks - He is in trouble.

Or maybe we shouldn't assume.

Maybe he's like Prismall, fit enough for country league stuff but not for the real deal.

Maybe he's like Dyson, deemed not good enough.

Maybe he's like Browne, trying to work his way back into the side.

Got it !

Cant make assumptions BUT you can make assumptions.:(

Like I stated earlier - Surprised that Slatts was dropped - But dont make assumptions that he is injured - if he plays for Bendigo.

Anyway, House is licking his lips.;)

Prismall, Pears, Welsh, Gumby, Hille have all played at Bendigo - in Hille's case went back - due to soreness or lack of fitness.

It's hardly a new concept.

He's not playing well enough to be picked.

Surely that's not too difficult to grasp?

Freo: played
North: rested
Hawthorn: not picked
Geelong: not picked

Errmm, I can only count the one game where he's been rested, as - if you read again - I've said.

I'm starting to think you're just arguing for the sake of it.
