Alrighty, I'll make this short and sweet. If you don't want to support the Carlton Football Club after a Pre-Season loss then please piss off. :thumbsu:

Of course we're going to play scrappy football in our first game back somewhere in woop woop at some suburban worm farm. Deal with it and get behind the team.

Worthy of a thread? Hell yes.

Strange thread not sure i have read anyone say they don't want to support carlton.

However I for one will continue to question the merit of trading fevola and so far things look worse than i could imagine.

Out : Fev superstar

In: Mclean - terrible , Henderson - could not of showed less

Get into 'em EB. 7/22 missing, playing at the worm farm, high humidity, Vs Sydney boring swans lockdown blah blah blah, surely we should only expect a scrappy game . Skills were ordinary accross the board but it's only February ffs. Visy park next week will be a lot better than the piece of shit we would've been on had we won.

Lets leave the pissing and moaning to the bleakmond board and see how we go in round 1.

btw EB, I still have your dvds.

Mate, what does a quality KPP prospect look like to you at 19 or 20? I think it looks pretty much exactly like Henderson. Getting to the right areas more often than not, getting hands to contests, looking a bit unco, showing a bit of class in potting that 3/4 siren goal, kept trying, kepy presenting...

I really don't get what people expected from Henderson this year. He looks the goods to me. Not for 2010, but anyone expecting that was wrong to start with.

Fevola was an alcoholic with half a brain. I'm happy that he isn't on our list. :thumbsu:

2 Things -

1 Sydney had quite a few players missing from their best 22 as well, IE Jesse White, ROK, Daniel Bradshaw. And we played a side that is rebuilding, and missed the finals last year (and many not expecting to make it again this year)

2 - Football is a passionate and emotional game .. there is bound to be some people upset and negative/angry after a loss, even after a NAB Cup game ...
Some people do go overboard from time to time (myself being one of the biggest offenders) but you know what, I am so getting sick of those over-sensitive fans who crack it if anyone dares post anything critical of the players/team/club after a loss ...

Do you expect all of us to remain stoic after a dissapointing result and act like the Toffs from Lords with their 'bad luck old chaps, better luck next time' type of attitude ???

People go overboard (and yes I have done so as well) but surely fans should be allowed to vent, within reason.

Eddie, I want to support the Carlton Football Club and consider myself one of the more positive posters. However, I did think we had the better side on paper and I was looking forward to seeing some of this excellent track form transfer to a match situation. It didn't happen so I am somewhat disappointed.

The questions not answered tonight are:

Kreuzer, ruck or forward?

How many games for Henderson?

Is McLean going to be a horses for courses selection? i.e Will Hadley beat him out in games expected to be faster? I rate Hadley as a better extractor so am relying on extra class from McLean.

How do we beat the flood?

Do we need full seasons from Murphy and Simpson as we really missed them tonight?

Probably simple answers but for a preseason game, you want to see how things will work and I didn't really see what our system will be this year, aside from hoping our forward structure will present itself and thinking we might start slowly.

No negativity here, I'm not about to whinge and complain. I'm just wondering where we are placed and adjusting expectations accordingly.

I do think we are looking pretty good physicality wise though. Some decent additions.

Either Quarters or Time Lane made a good point during the game - our top 3 goalkickers from 2009 weren't out there tonight - Fevola, Betts and Murphy. Robert Walls, who does mark Carlton pretty hardly IMO, even conceeded that it would take time to work out what to do going forward without Fev. And, as has already been pointed out, Sydney play a very scrapy gamestyle, and we just didn't cope with it tonight.

Henderson showed a lot tonight

And we played a side that is rebuilding, and missed the finals last year (and many not expecting to make it again this year) I think our outs would have had more of a combined influence than the swans but yeah both teams had a different look. We are also still not finished with our rebuilding stage yet either, although we're starting to look OK.

How many of tonights playing group have been referred to as hacks in the various threads ?

Do you expect all of us to remain stoic after a dissapointing result and act like the Toffs from Lords with their 'bad luck old chaps, better luck next time' type of attitude ???

People go overboard (and yes I have done so as well) but surely fans should be allowed to vent, within reason. And people should also be able to vent some form of disapproval at some of the slander toward the team/players they love. There seems to be a lot of it and some will speak up about that as well. Surely you could appreciate some people don't like reading some of the tripe written by fellow supporters , especially when the season hasn't started yet.

Short and sweet...does criticizing players of the Carlton Football Club for a poor performance make you any less of a supporter as someone who is prepared to sugar-coat and blindly wave the flag?

Yeah, Henderson was fine?! Was agile, willing to attack the contest, and consistently brought the ball to his feet in contests where he couldn't mark. Dropped sitters, and shanked a few - but for goodness sake, if Chris Judd and Heath Scotland are doing this we can cut a 20 year old 6'6" guy a break.

Yarran was good too... Probably the best game I've seen him play in terms of showing his wares! (Was pretty decent in his debut game v. Freo)

Can't wait to see them at Visy next weekend!

Anyone know what that odd noise was in the first quarter that was mistaken for the siren?

It was Fevola laughing his guts out in BrisVegas.:o

On a separate note, who exactly did the Swans have out of their best 22? I know they had a few.

Just that the commentators were saying that we were a lot closer to full strength than the Swans and I know that Simpson, Waite, Betts, Murphy would walk back into the side, and Walker, Houlihan, O'hAilpin, Armfield and Austin are thereabouts.

Also they mentioned we had 9 top ten picks out there tonight. Judd, McLean, Henderson, Russell, Gibbs, Yarran, Kreuzer ...... that's 7, who did I miss? It would be nice if for once the commentators would make excuses for us as well. Last year they kept going on about opposition defenders being missing when we were missing more than anybody most of the time.

zomg EB you have to be critical sometimes, taking the softly softly approach is not the answer. our guys were unacceptable tonight and will need to lift big time before round 1.

OMG I JUST SAID IT

Well it would make sense coming out of that massive maroon waterlogged arse. ;):thumbsu:

Off the top of my head, they were missing Bradshaw, White, Shaw, Mumford, for starters. I think it's fair to say Bradshaw and White would be a challenging pair to add to that forward line...

The way we were bringing the ball into the 50 tonite, i don't think fev would've got a sniff.

First thing is I am very disappointed that Ellard did not play
why have him on the list?
2nd if we lose 1 of Jamo Bower or TBird we are dead!
3rd Gibbs better become the elite player we dream of because he is a long way off at the moment
Bugger numbers
We need players with heart and guts. Robbo showed what effort gets and I think it was glaring that a player like Armfield is vital to get the tempo up.
I was really disappointed in what the club dished up. Ratts owed it to the fans to answer those questions ODN and to show that our pick ups and summer work was worth it!~
We looked like the 2010 members hats: cheap and lacking quality
But I will wear the hat and support the team

Stupid thread. To suggest that if your not happy with a pre season loss to piss off and support someone else.....is utter garbage.

Its a public forum where opinions will differ. Some have gone overboard (all teams have em) but you continue to scroll and ignore it. Wtf are you to tell people what to think and type. get off ya horse.

BTW Did anyone hear how annoyed/irritated Wallsy sounded on the commentary tonight ???

I swear he was so close to say the hit word (that starts with S) but he covered himself nicely after Mitch Robinson kicked an absolute clanger into the foward line ...

BTW I think some of the venting by some of more angry fans here pales in comparison to some of the sprays that coaches like Wallsy, Slug Jordan and Ron Barassi gave their players over the years :)
