Well, im sitting at work bored off my face, so i thought it was about time to introduce myself.
My name is paul Barrett im from England, but now call Calgary Canada home. I have played Soccer since i was about 6 years old (so thats 18 years of it). I was looking for a new adventure two years ago so i tried my hand a rugby. I wasnt very good at rugby but it was good for a new experience. During my time in rugby i met a tonne of Aussies, most of which were constantly slagging off this odd game called aussie rules. So, i decided i should look into this game by contacting the local Aussie rules club. I showed up for some training and before i knew it i was hooked on the game. I finished off the season with the Calgary Kangaroos, and cant wait for the snow to leave so that i can start up the next season. Unfortunately i suffered a bad knee injury in december so my chances of playing my new sport are pretty slim this year. I just have to sit and wait for my next surgery, then i can start chasing the oval ball again.
I really think that aussie rules has a big future and all we need to do is press hard to spread the word. Right now im pressing the roos to start up a local 7 per side mini league in the city to help the sport grow here. I also think that soccer players are the future of the sport here. There are 40,000 registered soccer players in this city of 1 million people. thats an ample number of converts! I love talking footy (of any code).
Its my personal belief that a true "footballer" is able to play any number of football codes. That being said, i think everyone needs to get out of their "my football is better then yours" and pick up the other kind of ball and have a crack at it.
Well i suppose thats me as far as aussie rules is concerned. Oh and im a big Chelsea supporter! UP THE MIGHTY BLUES!
Calgary Kangaroos
Cheers,
Paul
