Not sure if this was discussed in another thread, please move if so.

Just wondering whether anyone knows if our training program has gone high-intensity for the finals (or whether we even do that as prep)?

I heard Geelong have gone into high-intensity training so they're up and ready for the finals.

What's our prep program for the finals?

David Buttifant has been quoted at times as saying that during the season, all you can do between games is allows the players to rest and recover as much as possible leading into the next game.

We do all of our high intensity training pre season, in Arizona and in the few weeks after we come back, and that's been the proven method in the AFL.

Interesting then to see how the Cats go in the finals, doing it differently.

For high intensity training, youd expect the sessions to be short. Most clubs train like this during the season anyway, and we wouldnt be much different. It allows you to keep your fitness up while keeping reasonably fresh. Clubs dont want players training for long periods of time in between games. High intensity training is also the preferred training method pre-season aswell, albeit at a greater volume (doing 8x400m is more effective than going for a 3km run). Its nothing unusual, id say we train very similar to the cats, as do most other clubs.

The last team to try it was Craigs crows in 06. The tired horribly and were belted around in finals

:thumbsu: spot on Opti...I remember being concerned that we weren't doing it & that maybe Craig was onto something but it proved ineffective, so I too am extremely interested in the way the pootty cats go in the finals

On the other hand, it (supposedly) worked for the Crows in 1997-98. I think that Craig might have had some say in that as well.

Of course, you don't necessarily have to do it with the entire group. Mick's already on record as saying that Shaw is in for a very tough 6-7 weeks. Allowing for the fact that they have to be careful with Didak's calf, it wouldn't surprise me if they are really slamming the work into a few of those out at the minute. After all they've already done something similar with Swan etc.
