The game and scoreworm would’ve been a scream.

Umps’ backs would’ve been sore.

Goal umps’ shoulders, likewise.

The 2010 WAFL and SANFL seasons contained two extraordinary games in August that looked like they came from many years earlier.

In the final round of the WAFL the Subiaco Lions defeated the South Fremantle Bulldogs 33.9-207 to 21.18-134, a match aggregate of 351 points. This surpassed the AFL aggregate record of 345 points set in 1978, and given that like the AFL and all major leagues 300 point aggregate games have become extremely rare in the modern era, the game stood out. What is remarkable is that both South Fremantle and Subiaco were very strong around this era, yet neither made the finals in 2010.

In the SANFL earlier that month West Adelaide Bloods beat the Port Adelaide Magpies 3.4-22 to 2.4-16, an aggregate of just 38-points. It was probably a wet weather game, but this score looks like it comes from 1910 not 2010. The last AFL/VFL game to have an aggregate of less than 50 points was Collingwood's victory over Richmond in the very wet 1927 Grand Final.

Looks like Queensland and NSW seemed to have more end-to-end shootouts in the eighties. Odds are we'll find another +400 in these two states.
I once read in "Inside Football" of a score pre Brissy Bears of a score similar to the one above between North Queensland and South Queensland. The paper had a column every weeks on the goings on in Qld.

Sorry to be a fusspot, but I was enjoying reading through the latest update on page 1 and noticed some minor errors.

1.
344 - Vic - Silvan 36.16.232 def Warburton-Millgrove 15.12.102 - YVMDFL Div. 1 - 2008
334 - Vic - Silvan 36.16.232 def Warburton-Millgrove 15.12.102 - YVMDFL Div. 1 - 2008

Somehow this game has appeared twice with two separate aggregates. The top line does not belong as the aggregate does indeed equal 334.

2.
327 - Vic - Doncaster East 31.14.200 def South Wantirna - Eastern Districts FL Div. 4 - 1993
What is South Wantirna's score?

3.
306 - WA - Midland 30.26.206 def Balga 16.14.110 - WAFA - 1986
This aggregate equals 316.

4.
302 - ACT - Queanbeyan 29.17.191 def Belconnen 15.11.101 - ACTAFL - 1986
This aggregate equals 292.

Thanks for pointing those out.
Removed the higher aggregate for 1., added South Wantirna's 19.13.127 to 2., fixed 3. and 4..
Also noticed that I had Campbells Creek kicking 18.3.11 against Rovers, fixed that too.

In relation to smallest aggregates, in South Australia in 2010 there were two semi finals on the same weekend which produced small aggregates.

18 - SA - Tanunda 1.5.11 def Barossa District 0.7.7 - Barossa, Light and Gawler FA - 2010
16 - SA - Mintaro-Manoora 1.5.11 def Blyth-Snowtown 0.5.5 - North Eastern FL - 2010

From the BOM:
The first week of September 2010 saw the development of an intense low pressure system, passing over Adelaide on the 3rd and 4th of September. This system produced widespread rainfall, lightning activity and strong winds on the afternoon and evening of 3rd September, with winds intensifying through the 4th September, and significant rainfall totals continuing, with damaging winds recorded at several locations. The highest wind gust recorded in the Adelaide and local hills area was 96km/h at Adelaide Airport, and 95km/h at Edinburgh Airport in the northern suburbs, on the 4th. Winds averaged 50 to 60 km/h for several hours at several locations through the afternoon of the 4th.

No doubt not the best day for a final.

I also found
25 - SA - Mallala 2.2.14 def Hummocks-Watchman 1.5.11 - Adelaide Plains FL - 2010

Is there any telecast footage from any of the major league 340+ games? Can’t imagine what it’d be like to watch a game like that nowadays.

There might be television of the game somewhere (Or maybe Name-A-Game) of the Cats/Hawks 171-163 game in Rd 6 1989. Kangas/Bombers amazing game in 2001 too should be surely accessible. 171-159 Rd 16.
