FREMANTLE will continue to hold back Stephen Hill and Hayden Ballantyne from pre-season matches, but coach Mark Harvey is confident the dynamic pair will be ready to fire in round one of the season proper.

Hill and Ballantyne will not be considered for that match and are both two to three weeks away from playing.

Harvey said recent leadership group addition Matt de Boer was also one to two weeks away from playing as he recovers from a hamstring complaint.

"(David) Mundy might be nearly ready to play, Michael Walters, Dylan Roberton, those sorts of guys we might look at. There'll be three or four new players introduced."

I wasn't aware Mundy was even really injured. I must say i'm not that happy with the way the club has handled this pre-season. Especially with the injuries and the way they have kept us in the dark for so long. We need a break!

Be careful about asking for a break, with the injury run we're having we might just get one.Good to hear that Ballas is recovering well though.

What a list of INS from the scrap that we saw in the NAB cup:
Hill
Ballantyne
Deboer
Mundy
Walters
Roberton

Add to that Barlow around round 4-5ish and we are in for a good run...

You forgot your buddy from the list Seppo.

My buddy does not need a mention, his absence from the NAB experiment should be known by all. Although I should start up a separate thread for his return, for all those ignorant of his absence.

Fyfey missed out only with an ear infection IIRC, should get to see him at the next game. I wouldn't have him on the "LTI" list or the "Cotton Wool" list.

Yeah the deception with injuries thing definitely has been frustrating for the supporters this pre-season. They're not really gaining anything by keeping that info bottled up, if anything they're feeding the rumour mills moreso which has probably been the worst part of the pre-season.

Harves playing games with the media and the other clubs that is all. I dont think harves is too concerned about what is said outside the club and is simply keeping the other teams guessing.

Give em nothing, if hilly has a tight hammy call it shin soreness. You need to remember Harves worked under a coach who used to list every injury as the flu.

Deception? Really? All the players with mid-long term injuries who look like missing any of the regular season games have been listed pretty quickly. Hayden, Morabito, Houghton and Ibbotson were all been named by the club basically straight away.

Unless it's serious and potentially going to keep someone out of the round 1 game does anyone really need to hear about it? It's a footy club during a pre-season. If they notified us of every minor injury they would spend more time sending out press releases than anything else.

Hill and Ballantyne are the one's that I am most annoyed about. Especially Ballantyne, seeing as his injury was meant to be a 4-5 week stint on the sidelines but instead he has not participated in any of the pre-season. Hill has been heavilly scaled back which suggests there is something more serious then they are admitting.

Unfortunately we have a history of glossing over injuries. We often publicly declare everyone as very best case scenario, and not a realistic approach. I think the cards should be on the table, and additional pressure for players to meet deadlines can only lead to longer time off the park.

Consider Mayne, Headland, Palmer, Tarrant.... If I could be bothered going back I could name a lot more.

I expect Hill and Ballantyne will not play round 1.

I think it is deception.

Why worry about shit outside our control :)

Balla is an odd case, probably didn't heal as well or as quickly as they would have liked, compounded by wrapping him in cotton wool more than usual to make sure he'll be ok

Sibo, Walters, Fyfe and a few others that have spent a lot of this year on the sidelines. I know it's probably not their priority to release officially but why - when asked do they need to lie about it like many people here when they rock up to the training sessions and ask - are told little white lies. What's the point?

Nickos - I think this a difficult issue for the club. I'm sure they would like to be straight with supporters but in reality info provided to supporters becomes a public, i.e. media, story pretty quickly. So it's either keep it all close or not. I suspect they were concerned at various stages in this preseason that the injury toll story would get out of control and undermine what the club is trying to achieve. I accept though that the club's approach has seemed at times to border on subterfuge, particularly in relation to Ballantyne and, apparently, Mundy.

Maybe it's time to boycott the club over them letting us know about injuries.

Nothing to see here. The club keeping niggling injuries and not-quite-100% players close to their chest? Welcome to elite sport. If they could have got away with a few bandaids and a stick, they would have kept Barlow running. It's worth big bikkies, this business.

meh we are never going to know the deal with the club, they will always hide the truth, and lets face it, the club that wins the club will always have the best injury list no matter what the media says, which pretty much says right now with our list. we can not win the flag :(

wow, reading that was like falling into a black hole...

Ever since the jumper change, the Steves and fitness staff have been heading down a downward spiral towards failure because of not keeping the red and green making the Eagles and Nicoski outplay us and setting us up to lose all our future derbies because of a poor NAB Cup gameplan not involving players running at the right angles translating to the season proper wooden spoon we deserve it. :(

It is all well and good to stay positive and think "oh, when these guys come back and play they will be well rested and we will surge home in the second part of the year". I sincerely hope that is the case, but I would say more often than not it seems that when players have an interrupted pre-season they really struggle to produce when they finally get on the park.

The AFL needs to stop the bullshit that goes on about injuries. They should have a couple independent doctors who make the assessment and list it with a realistic recovery time. How many weeks was Ottens "2 weeks away"? etc. They need to bought to account for giving bullshit information, harvey included. They think they are being clever but really what difference does it make? If someone is 2 weeks away or 6 weeks away, i doubt the opposition is looking at teams 5-6 weeks out.

remember last season with ibbo playing suddenly after being 4 weeks away? I mean seriously we got pumped in that game and it made no difference so why go through the crap of pretending a guy is injured etc. Maybe if it was Pav or Sandi etc but Ibbo? hardly a matchwinner.

It is often unknown as too how long a player will be out for. No point saying it will be 3 weeks when it may be 3 or 6 or more. Foot injuries and stress injuries are notorious for this. It is also only pre-season so who cares!!!

I'm still trying to work out why several supporters believe they are entitled to anything other that what the club releases to the public?? If they believe it is in the best interest of the club to release the injury list in such a way what right do we as supporters have to demand otherwise??

To me a lot of this has come down to fantasy games (dreamteam & supercoach) both of which i spend plenty of time on.

Just have faith in what the club is doing, what difference is it going to make either way. It's not like telling us is going to make the injury heal any faster......
