Whole article's pretty disturbing, writing off huge huge sums of money as "honorariums" to big US pastors, $77000 airfares apparently, and in return the US do the same when Hillsong visit them. Shows how corrupt the entire megachurch/evangelical system is in both countries

Also didn't report 80 mil income yet tax agencies did nothing, shows our offices are corrupted too

Religion is just a money laundering scheme

Senator Wilkie makes many claims in 'cowards castle'.
I think Wilkie probably jawboned the ACNC into making a public statement on their Hillsong investigation, cleverly knowing that by asserting that they were not investigating Hillsong, would likely force ACNC in disclosing something about them already investigating Hillsong, which they would not have otherwise have done at this stage in any investigation they have commenced.

IMHO, Wilkie is way smarter than you take him for.

'“....Although it was stated in parliament that the ACNC has not acted, I can confirm that we are investigating concerns raised about Hillsong Church charities,” said the commissioner, Sue Woodward. “Hillsong has stated publicly that it is fully cooperating with regulatory authorities.”

Wilkie alleged the leaked financial records and documents were provided to the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (Asic), and was critical they had not been acted on. Asic said it was a matter for the ACNC, while the ATO said it could not comment on the tax affairs of any individual or entity.

Woodward said it was “extremely rare” for the ACNC to comment on investigations, but issued a statement to “correct the record”. But she also added the ACNC had not received a whistleblower disclosure on the documents, noting the charities commission was not actually able to provide whistleblower protections.

“Anyone can raise a concern about a charity with the ACNC,” Woodward said. “No matter where a concern originates, we use a standard independent process to review its details and, if necessary, we conduct an investigation.”

The assistant minister for charities, Andrew Leigh, said Wilkie “raised a number of serious issues, and I understand the ACNC will review the allegations and documents”.

The education minister, Jason Clare, said it was “the sort of thing that the tax office needs to take seriously”
....'

Even Sky news was on the Hillsong case today (Nice one Sharri), and not in their corner.

Hillsong.
Out of tune with what is expected of a religious charity.
More like the excesses of a religious cult.

Will they get a 2nd life?

King hit or Kings Cross.

The word on Sydney Streets, is that Hillsong is finished.

Lets see whether they financially survive the likely upcoming reduction in revenue, and lawsuits from ex-cult members, left right and centre.

That's before taking into account, the risk of prosecutions, fines or penalties, relating to ASIC, ACNC or ATO legal action.

Newnham is wrong. ACNC require annual statements from charities and not for profits. I just completed one for our charity. You have to disclose income, financial annual reports, purpose of charity, number of employees. We have 40 volunteers, zero paid staff. Feed 40+ needy people 365 days a year. Geelong has a number of Hillsong like orgs. They only look after themselves, nothing remotely like charitable acts.

'A charity must meet the ACNC's Governance Standards to be registered and remain registered with the ACNC.
The Governance Standards do not apply to a limited category of charities called ‘Basic Religious Charities’.'
