History lesson: A "chicken wing" tackle was a phrase coined by the Sydney media to describe the Melbourne Storm's controversial Jiu Jitsu technique which they used to "submit" an opponent who had been tackled and was lying face down on the ground. They'd grab his arm and pull it backwards to prevent him from rising to his feet and playing the ball. It was a grappling move they'd practised to slow the other team down. It was usually done by the second man in on the tackle.

Like Chris Judd did to the North Melbourne footballer that time.

In typical AFL fashion, whenever we try to copy phrases and jargon from other sports, we always manage to get it wrong. Mostly ignorant people in the media who don't know what they're talking about. This is why Cyril Rioli was accused of "chicken wings" whenever he grabbed an opponent's wrist in a stand up tackle, one on one... WRONG! It's not a chicken wing.

Chicken wing tackles occur when someone deliberately grabs the arm and pulls it back with the INTENTION of putting stress on the shoulder joint.

Morons.

As far as my kids know now, when I carve up a chook, they fight over the drumsticks, and to a lesser extent - the two 'juddies'. Is an eye gouging, pressure point molesting, chicken wingin, bald headed, soft tubed dog. 'Mr Chicken wing' for short.

Hodge? His only problem is he plays footy in an era of weak bodied squibs and soft utensil$.

He wont go for this "incident" nor will he go for about the 5 other acts that are just courage and not worth a replay when its hodge or buddy, its just unsocial, would have to stop replaying Embley for a minute to look at them to see how bad they are.

At the game I didn't notice it. Just watching that video now and I still barely noticed it. Seriously, is that what this thread is about? Lol.

your anger for losing last week due to the umpires giving hawthorn an easy ride is clouding your judgement, Hodge does not perform 'dog act's every week, he is just hard at the ball, unlike most of Carlton Essendon these days

You are dead right. In both cases in Wookie's video the player tries to raise their elbow to cause the tackle to shift up but Hodge squeezes tight and so the arm goes back. Gee people like to whinge about nothing.

Wow, that video is hilarious. So we're comparing 2 piece of play where the player is attempting to fight through a tackle and a tackler trying to hold on as best they can to a player lying defenceless on the ground, being held stationary in a tackle when a third man in bends his arm up behind his back. Carlton fans, seriously delusional.

Also, last night might show you how you can lose a free kick count and still win a match. Dry your eyes boys, it's been a week already.
 
Hodge should of been suspended for last weeks indiscretions, but the chicken wing looked mostly accidental and I don't think his intention was to hurt Scooter.
