Sad to see a number 1 pick playing in the pack pocket so early in a career.

For me Judd at 3 dominating in the mid is better value.

Problem is Hodge just cannot drop enough weight or get fit enough to go with the elite mids... however he will be remembered as a quality pack pocket similar to Brad Hardie

Another FACT is that Judd left WCE to come back home to Melbs and chose Carlton over your sorry mob because he saw more hope in the list and the 'vision'. He would be earning a bucket load of cash whether he be at Carlton, WCE, Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond o) or MelbourneD).

What worries me is that there are people out there who actually believe this inane drivel. While you're right about the fact that he'd be on a huge package wherever he went, do you honestly believe that he went to the Blues for football reasons?

Judd knows that his body will not stand up to the rigours of modern football indefinitely and he's taken the option which will guarantee him a large pay packet for an extended time. You're paying him 7 figures for the next 5 years even if he does a Dulcify. And you've still go to fit all your other young up and comers in to your salary cap when they renegotiate.

I know it's hard to admit that you've purchased damaged goods, but Judd should at 25 be in the best form of his life, not battling injury throughout the year until he can be operated on in September. It says something about the philosophy at Carlton that it suited your interests more to make sure he was on the park at every opportunity rather than trying to get him right.

The reason why Hodge is better than Judd is because he is so versatile. Any holes a team has over the ground chuck the general there to fix it. You cannot do this with Judd. Only reason Hodge has played down back this year is because that was the weakest part of our structure and Hawks have plenty of other players who can run through the middle like the last time we played the Blues absolutely smashed in the MIDDLE not even the million dollar man could do anything about it.

Seen Hodge turn many games when chucked into the middle but he was needed more so down back in 2008. Its called team STRUCTUE and Blues fans may one day understand this about Hodge and how there team is still a far way off the mark in winning a flag with its current list.

Aside from the fact it is the culture to "hide" monies paid to footballers (Sydney, Essendon, Carlton, Adelaide, Fremantle, St. Kilda and WCE have been caught), simply poor management, had said payments been disclosed ala Judd with Visy, there would not have been an issue... it has only been Carlton who were found to have systematically rorted the system... even so we still weren't above Brisbane's salary cap!

Is it just cos he was a No.1 pick? I hear a lot of talk about how he might miss the Geelong game and that Hawks have no chance without him . . . but he's far from their best or most important player. Sewell, Mitchell, Ladson, Young, Ellis, all are better than Hodge. Or is it just me?

Sydney: Cost of living is higher than that of any other state therefore their concessions are justifiable on a level other than the AFL wanting Brisbane to prosper to strengthen the competition and to successfully spread its wings and message of Australian Rules.

WCE, Brisbane, Adelaide, Fremantle and Port: All were given concession picks as will GC17 and West Sydney, I have no problem with this if it is to provide an equitable competition. Though the previous "new" inceptions into the AFL were far under resourced in comparison to those 2 new clubs entering the competition moving forward, the AFL in their wisdom have learnt, to an extent, from their mistakes.

Etihad Stadium: Essendon and Collingwood are the strongest Victorian teams in supporter base and thus attract the crowds necessary to fill the MCG, let alone Etihad Stadium for Essendon. Etihad Stadium in effect is our home ground and as such I see no issue in receiving our fair share of the pie. We were lured to sign up with Etihad Stadium and thus revised our playing schedule at the MCG which in actual fact has disadvantaged our team on the field. We play in doors one week and then have to adjust to the different elements of nature the next week.

Why did Brisbane leave Carrara? Money???

My lord, you must not have been watching football whilst Carlton have continuously finished bottom, Hodge has been magnificent for the past 4 years! He wasn't dominating in the middle in the first half of '08 so he was moved back to the backline where he'd been fantastic in the past (AA in 05) and still managed to kick 20 goals!

Hodge shits on Gilbee! Can't believe you're comparing the two let alone choosing against Hodge! Gilbee is weak as piss and shit under pressure, easily shut down, I'd have Dal Santo over Gilbee any day of the week!

Allowance?

No, that's a legitimate commercial agreement. If the TD management want a huge club like Essendon to play its home games there, they have to compensate us. We're not getting anything extra from the governing body of the competition. We're agreeing to terms in a deal between two corporations.

You're comparing Gilbee to a 21 year old who showed enormous improvement in '08 (averaged more marks, goals and tackles than Gilbee - shut down McLeod) and a B&F winner in a team that included Hird, Lloyd, Fletcher, Mercuri, Misiti and Lucas. Mcphee also average more marks, goals and tackles than Gilbee... Gilbee is an accumulator of possessions, sitting off the back getting soft kicks. No matter what anyone thinks of Mcphee, and he certainly has his negatives, he puts his body on the line (see Fremantle game), presents and gets his own ball!

Gilbee has done SFA. A great kick with nothing else of substance, put that in the overrated hack thread!

Brisbane weren't a new club in 2001-2003. A new club is 5-10 years old. When there have been 2, 3 or even 4 cycles of lists, the club isn't new.

Well done on using a first round draft pick to pick a player has finally found his role trying to stop the most creative players in the game instead of making the play himself, congratulations youve found a future star.
And i lol'd when u congratulated Mcphee for winning a BnF over Misiti and Mercuri. For the record Gilbee is a previous All Aus, finished 3rd in the BnF and is regarded by many as the one of the best kicks in the AFL.

How does that have anything to do with it? So long as he discloses any potential conflict of interest and the board members accept, no issue. Besides, Essendon do not have control over the catering of any AFL venue.
